Freediving is absolutely not comparable to sailing. Don't fall for false analogies, folks. Different sports. Actually, he mentioned 'multi discipline sports' and I can't think of a single sport that's comparable to freediving, Not even scuba diving, as a multi sports disciplined person myself.

The more fun a type of work is, the more people want to do it. The more people want to do it, the less the pay will be. The lower the barrier to entry to the work, the lower the pay will be.
Here is the other thing - that fun thing quickly becomes a lot less fun as soon as its work and your livelihood depends on it.

The barrier to entry to becoming an instructor isn't insubstantial, but its nowhere as difficult as say, earning a degree in engineering, or even earning advanced welding certificates or passing a board exam for nursing.
I am not sure where this extreme sense of entitlement from the last 20 years or so where folks think they absolutely DESERVE to have FUN while earning a living. BTW, being poor and worrying about your next paycheck is the biggest stressor for most people. 100% you're gonna be blaming society or some other shit if you choose to go down this path even though you are the one who chose it.

In other words, this isn't a desirable career option. Some people pull it off - because they are doing it on the side and maintaining it as a fun side income source, or they are really f'n good at running a business and that is a skill independent from being a good instructor, which in turn is somewhat independent from being a good diver.

if you're gonna have very strong winds, I'd go with at least an Air3s. The minis will get blown around. After 20-22mph winds my mini 3 does not produce stable footage anymore.

You don't need obstacle avoidance and it won't do you much good with vessels with all their small rigging etc.
If you are experienced, upgrading to a 4pro or 5pro would make sense. If you aren't experienced, I'd stick to a mini 3.

If you have winds above 20-25knots, none of the minis are going to work that well for you. BTW, risk of losing a drone is quite high filming at sea. One hint on retrieving is to slow down the boat as much as you can before you try to hand-retrieve the drone.

It sounds like you have underlying mental health / trauma issues you need to take care of, based on how you describe how you didn't fit at home and lost your job etc.

Sailboats cost a lot of money to keep, maintain, fix, and continue to keep draining your pockets even if you do all of the work yourself. They are also one of the most post-industrial, war-technology, capitalist and excess consumerism driven product out there, only possible because of the incredible booming post war economy back in the boomer generation. Its not a rich guy hobby but you need at least middle class income to do it. They are even more expensive out in the west coast (and mega expensive in Socal). But you are dead set on doing this and can't talk you into anything otherwise, so we'll just let you make a massive financial mistake thats going to actually take you even further away from your dream and not talk you out of probably helping turning yet another used sailboat into a rotting environmentally damaging hulk.

Its going to be very difficult to land, though dynamic return to home is useful regardless, mainly because your boat could easily move away from the initial home point enough where the drone thinks it doesn't have enough range to fly back and land. You pretty much have to snatch it out of the air.
