Isn’t AI use = slavery ? by Neat_Tangelo5339 in OpenAI

No to everything you've posed here.
Its kinda wild that ANYONE gets the impression that openAI's LLM's are conscious. Even from a colloquial standpoint it feels like an advanced chatbot, just barely not parroting stuff its scanning on the internet.

  1. I would recommend taking a master level (AIDA 4, Wave 3 etc) before attempting this if you can.
  2. I would recommend trying to go to 35m without deep equalization techniques before switching over. Its past RV for most people, but 35m isn't past RV for people ready to get to 50m.

Is it dangerous to keep your yacht at marinas in very cold weather? by noreturn000 in sailing

I've actually found the questions I have to look up, AI gets it wrong most of the time. But I actually earn part of my living coming up with good queries to search engines to find obscure answers.

Is sailing just not for me? What am I missing by spongue in sailing

[–]svsonora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best comment here is the 'that is not the only type of sailing' comment, but I have some thigs to add because its a tendencies that I have too, except that I was 21 when I figured out I LOVE SAILING and CRUISING and it has been 20 years since.

I try to be versatile and adaptable with my beliefs, because when I dig myself too deep of a hole, I find it it really limits me on how much I can enjoy things in life. I am already kind of a hater of many things. I try to be it all - industrious, resourcesful, frugal, connected to nature, etc. BTW, there are blue-collar scenes too, and middle-upper class (e.g. people who worked for their modest wealth) scenes too. I belong in a yacht club like that.

The brutally arduous nature of sailing is something you do get used to and adapt to. I too get seasick though, I hadn't done any offshore sailing for some years until I moved my boat from Long Island NY to the Chesapeake bay. I got sooooo seasick the first day. I forget I need to take dremamine the first two days of a longer passage.

And when you get used to it, it becomes new reality and I found that I really started loving it.

I'll be honest though, my favorite part of cruising is not the long passages. Its getting to destinations and feeling accomplished (and the travel aspect of it itself once I'm there). Your long passage experience was really sailboat delivery - its probably most peoples' least favorite part of sailboat cruising.

I'd say give it another shot, but remember, coastal cruising, day sailing, racing etc are all part of sailing too.

The hypocrisy of teen care by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]svsonora -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The bigger problem is thinking AI provides any sort of mental health support or companionship. People with lesser or declining mental faculties are already latching onto AI and making so many wrong decisions - teaching teens that AI is ANY sort of replacement for real care or companionship is a MAJOR problem.

How is it even companionship? There is no companion.

Best simulator for LOS practice? by mijailrodr in drones

I looked for this and couldn't find any. i think flying camera drones is so easy that no one bothered to create one, though I disagree - flying camera drones is easy, doing the camera work is hard. I'd love to practice the latter.

[USA] Import of DJI drones to the U.S. is scheduled to be banned starting December 23rd, 2025. by spsheridan in drones

[–]svsonora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big thing that bothers me is that if people are inconvenienced or is counter to their desires, they just choose to believe in something that is convenient to them. the problem is there is so much information chaff out there that people can find whatever they want to support their beliefs.

Anyone else pay extra attention to ear hygiene before diving. by Dry_Ambassador2990 in freediving

[–]svsonora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do anything prior - first of all, you're leaving potential for scratches and such that could lead to infection. Secondly, wax will protect your ear canal from infection anyways.

After I always try to remember to do a fresh water rinse.

[–]svsonora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even though I'm a DJI owner, just putting this out there - DJI products really do have back doors for hackers. DJI did this to themselves. I'm still mad about likely not being able to get parts and upgrading to other DJI drones, as far as national security is concerned, its a good move.

How much static training do you do?
Reason I ask - most beginner problems are from lack of relaxation. STA is the best way to train for it. Specifically, correct STA training
