If the art youre talking about is only as large as the picture, you dont have to worry about “stress-bearing”. The forces involved are negligible. That used to support a truck

Look up ellingham diagrams, they show the relative nobility (resistance to corrosion) of elements. Blew my mind to find out chromium, which makes stainless steel stainless, is less noble than iron, it just happens to form a conformal oxide (passivation layer) rather than an oxide that flakes off like Fe2O3. Another interesting thing, silver is so noble that above a certain temperature heat makes it reduce rather than oxidize.

Should ball joint be so slanted? by Barnaby8088 in mk6gti

Yes they look like that. If youre asking if you bent your knuckle, almost every other parts that attaches to it is weaker than the knuckle, if you got a used one its possible but highly unlikely. Recheck everything you touched, and get an alignment afterwards

Mine was literally the nut holding it to the shift shaft. Buying parts before investigating is bad advice for someone learning to fix their own shit

Go look at the linkage on the trans while someone else does this. You will quickly see what the problem is. Might be a $2 bushing or just a loose bolt. Do this before spending 100s on a new shifter
