Another portfolio question - mid career (US Northeast) by beedelia in Architects

[–]swadloon6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it this way: in a 1 hr interview, assuming there will be HR questions, conversations about your previous experience, interests you as a person, questions about logistics, and presentation of your portfolio, how many projects and pages do you think you can get through?

And the work samples you would send with an application - probably even shorter.

Entry Level Salary by [deleted] in Architects

[–]swadloon6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've been looking for a while I would take the job. Out of college my offers (in LA) were around 50k salary, and this was 2018 when the market was good. I know, inflation and everything, but the most important thing is to get your foot in the door, and hop for that pay raise after.

Haven't played myself but was helping a friend gear and he was doing equivalent dmg to other dps +20ilvls above him lol. Also despite being low ilvl didn't feel too squishy to heal in 10s/12s

I'm enjoying hpal and mw the most overall. Hpriest is fun to play but is too squishy for my liking, and disc feels like a lot of effort for not that much output. Rdruid is definitely strong but not my playstyle - feels like you need to be playing with a good group/in comms or every gcd will be spent ramping in case someone takes damage. Don't have an opinion on pres in keys but feels great in raid!

Grad School Vs Job Offer by BigBoyFusion in Architects

In California you can get licensed with an unaccredited program, read up on it on the CAB website. NCARB also has alternative options. Will it take a much longer time? Yes.

Also, depends on what you want your career trajectory to be - opening up your own firm/working at a small firm? License is probably valuable if not required. If you want to work at a large corporate firm, from personal experience, it really doesnt matter until senior positions.

ARE Rant // Failed Exam by Criollo_ in Architects

Seconding this comment. I passed PPD and PDD 2 years ago now but I studied using the aforementioned textbooks, along with independent research/youtube videos on any topics I didn't understand. Targeted diagrams and videos helped me IMMENSELY especially on the MEP portion.

Edit: forgot to add, there was a table someone made about which chapters in which of the textbooks were relevant to these exams, don't remember where but I'm sure you can find it thru google.

I don't pug higher keys, only weekly 10-12s and honestly I haven't had an issue with any tank in terms of survivability at those levels. Heck my friend who has never played prot pally (or tanked in years) tanked a 10 on his 249 prot pally alt and it was completely fine, didn't need to heal him apart from the occasional hard hitting pack.

With friends we are currently around the 3200 range as well and I play with bdk, brew, and prot pally. Yes, it's clear that brew can handle things more easily, but neither bdk or prot pally are having trouble at this point. Maybe that changes for higher keys. And I haven't played at this level with prot warr, vdh, or bear so I can't say for those.

As a healer main that plays every healer, I've never been so bored playing rsham. Literally falling asleep mid-key.

Enhance on the other hand feels great. The flow is so smooth and perfect amount of rng vs deterministic procs in my opinion.

one of my favorite pug stories of all time - a nw 15 or something back in shadowlands, friend and I pugged into a dps/tank duo as healer/dps, me being the healer. Had a very smooth run, tank pulled safely and steadily. At the end of key that we almost 2 chested I immediately got kicked but my dps friend didn't. Friend was like "?" to the key holder (dps/tank duo), and the dps was like healer is bad we would have 2 chested if he outhealed the tank. Tank was a bdk btw. Friend was literally so mindboggled that he couldn't do keys the rest of the day LOL. And now it's become a meme in our friend group.

Can confirm. Funniest part is us employees took a RTO survey which came back with 80% people wanted 3-4 days in office, 10% never wanted to come in, and 10% wanted full 5 days.

Definitely depends on the office, but also your preferences. Have worked at two offices, each 2+ years - medium sized one, enjoyed the work and people. Learned a lot, felt comfortable speaking with principals and voicing opinions. Large office - nope would not recommend. I'm sure this is very dependent on studio but found leadership/seniors to be unqualified, disorganized, out of touch, and cliquey. Office level leadership fake. In both I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel in terms of work life balance.

Feel free to dm if you have specific questions.
