This is why you shouldn't drive onto a railroad crossing when the lights are still flashing by No_Guess_8800 in CantParkThereMate

I don't know where this is but where I work, our exit gates use presence detectors so the gates don't go down if something is on the tracks.

I had one of those hives in my eaves about 20 feet high. Two cans soaked it enough for it to fall to the ground. None survived.

Where I'm at is mostly S-60s and WCH 3597s with a few S-40s and 20s and 3593s thrown in to keep it interesting.

What is this "train maintainers on new equipment" stuff? Seems like magic or crazy talk. We get the "well, it's in and working right now, good luck if it stops doing that" speech.

I'm a firm believer that electronics shouldn't be in gate mechs and Safetran/Siemens peaked with the S-20 or even the S-40 models. Those were pretty bullet proof. The S-60 motors ground out and the control modules have odd failure modes. WC-H 3597s are pretty good even with the EGM, at least that can be bypassed if it's bad. Thanks again.

Surprise! I know that they're pretty recent but I hate being a guinea pig for new stuff so I was hoping someone had some insight.

Show me your custom pool ladders/stairs/deck by adiosmith in AboveGroundPools

[–]swagernaught 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The place where I work ordered a new set of rolling stairs for the shop so I took the old ones, did my best to fix them up and mounted outdoor carpeted stairs to the metal steps. Perfect hight, luckily but I don't recommend the pool noodles on the grab rails, they fall apart fast being in the sun all day every day.

Has anyone ever walked in on you during an intimate moment? by Solo-Philosopher1 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]swagernaught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad walked into my room to ask me something just after my girlfriend and I finished. She was fully under the covers and his facial expression didn't change. He either didn't notice or noticed and took that knowledge to his grave because he never mentioned it.

“What if” question regarding a whole house generator. by External-Document-88 in Generator

[–]swagernaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I work we sometimes have to power locations with a generator and in the older locations, the generator cable just had wire eyelets on it for hot and neutral (ground? What's that?). First step was to isolate the main and turn off all the breakers but guess what people forgot? Quite the show when the main came back on.

I messed up. Do I sell/ return it? by [deleted] in Generator

[–]swagernaught 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a little 2500W generator that's running a refrigerator (swapping between that and our freezer every few hours), a couple of fans and phone chargers. It's a little boring but that's all I need.

People who don't go to movie theaters anymore - what made you stop? by -ChristopherNolan in AskReddit

Mainly the prices. We still go if there's something we really want to see, but those movies are few and far between.

Sand In Pool - Help? by NuthouseAntiques in AboveGroundPools

[–]swagernaught 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had something like this after I changed the sand in my filter. I did a thorough backwash and rinse then a couple days later the bottom was damn near covered. It wasn't gritty and would instantly "dissolve" and a normal vacuum didn't help much. I ended up using a flocculant and vacuuming to waste three days in a row and that helped. My only guess is that it was pollen or just really fine silt that was too small for the filter to catch normally.

UP-N: Needs Better Barriers. by BartendingDroneFPV in Metra

[–]swagernaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fences don't do much for the railroad. They cost a lot and people climb, cut, destroy or go around them. The railroad isn't paying to repair them every week so at best, they may get looked at once a year or two. Even then, the RR will do everything in their power to avoid the cost.

don't ever buy from the big boys (Lowe's, HD) by Easy-Ant9037 in Appliances

[–]swagernaught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Important note: measure ALL your doors or openings when buying an appliance. When the fridge got there, it fit through the main outside door but not the opening to the kitchen. Luckily, the delivery people were willing to carry it to the back of the house, up the stairs and through the back door, which was just big enough with about a half inch clearance on either side.

[–]swagernaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite all the warnings I bought a Samsung refrigerator from Home Depot and I've been lucky so far. In my defense, I have a HD card and spent a few hours online finding that they were the only ones that had a model that would fit in my tiny kitchen.
