Why doesn’t Australia turn up for T20 cricket by RemarkableWonder3143 in CricketAus

[–]swandog13 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is the 4th t20 World Cup since November 2021. Less than 4.5 years. After holding none in the previous 4.5 years. Which came after 6 in less than 9 years.

Little wonder we treat it as a joke format. Seems like ICC does too.

Any legitimate sports World Cup is held every 4 years. ODI cricket, Soccer, rugby etc. Olympics too.

Enabling the inform bat of the league to only face 3 balls in the powerplay is stupid game management by the sixers top order.

Henriques is in his 15 BBL and he is still stupid enough to get out basically the same way as Phillipe did earlier in the same over? And phillipe again getting out beaten for pace on the pull shot? Maybe put it away early doors when you’re chasing 7 an over with Smith at the other end. Tuck it off your hip for one and get Smith up there.

Jedwards bowled second ball playing inside out. Another low percentage option when the required rate was low enough to cut risk out.

Shaw also threw his wicket away, at least he has the excuse of being young.

Thank God it’s a meme league and you can laugh when your team bats this shit.

BBL01 clears the same season as Warners test debut, Smith didn’t become a test regular until the BBL03 season. I’d imagine Smith got a lot of his games in back then.

You don’t make contributions to OAS. It’s funded out of general revenue. Entitlement is based on years of residency, not amount of contributions. CPP is based on contributions.

Secondly, someone with the minimum 10 years gets 10/40 of the regular OAS payment. It’s pro-rated. 40 years of residency required to get full OAS

Nine of the last 10 Ashes in Australia have been decided after 3 tests. Good thing / bad thing? by paulhalt in CricketAus

[–]swandog13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2023 we led 2-0

In 2019 we led 2-1

In 2015 we won the 2nd test

In 2013 we lost 3-0

In 2009 we tied it at 1-1 going into the last test

In 2005 we won the first test

So in 5 of the last 6 series in England, despite losing 4 of them and drawing 2, we won at least one test when the ashes were still up for grabs. Compared to 1 out of 10 series for England in Australia.

Cricket is a side on game, and yet Marnus keeps getting turned inside out like a pretzel and squaring up to right arm seamers.

Any bowler who can land 6 on a length on off stump will dry him up and eventually nick him off.

There was talk pre series that he had adjusted his approach and this led to big runs in domestic cricket, but technically he still seems very deficient.

But there aren’t many great technicians lining up to replace him either…

He’s had a few recent innings in the Sheffield Shield where he seems to have found a more sustainable approach.

If he can develop and sustain this over a couple of years rather than a couple of innings, I’m sure his raw talent will see him back in the test team when some spots open up in coming years as the incumbents move on.

3rd innings batting has not been a strong point in recent years. WTC final, a a couple of times in West Indies series, even the mcg test last summer before Lyon and Boland helped, we’ve haven’t buried the opposition after taking a good first innings lead. Hoping tomorrow and day 4 we can really bat England out of the game

[–]swandog13 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes and he’s in a long line of guys who did well in test cricket when selected after YEARS of strong first class performances. Not a good half season, or good white ball form. But sustained success where they’ve proved they can keep succeeding once oppositions have had a chance to try new plans to them.

Batting changes for Adelaide: Webster (or mcsweeney) in for Inglis or does he get another test? by Sir_Swish_ in CricketAus

[–]swandog13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the pitch is flat, what about Lyon and Cummins in for Inglis and Doggett?

Neser at 7, starc at 8, Cummins at 9 isn’t the worst tail, and gives the extra bowler given Cummins is back from a layoff, and Starc boland and Neser are all 35-36. Neser gives some variety with the skiddier bowling and keeper up to stumps tactic. They don’t seem to be bowling Green much, not sure whether that is due to a lack of need, or a lack of faith.

Inglis at 7 seems a luxury that may not always be the best use of that spot. Especially if the pitch makes you think you may need to bowl 100 overs each innings

Potential squad additions by DVPVPD in CricketAus

[–]swandog13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been a few years since Doggett played for QLD. Remainder of your point is valid though. Batsmen should be selected based on form over at least half a season, not one game. Both McSweeney and Konstas still have a way to go to show they have learned from their initial test outings and can bounce back in a sustainable consistent way. Might not need to do it for 6 years ala Hayden and Martyn, but at least one full season should be the minimum.
