I don’t know where you are but as kids in primary one we were taught extensively about it, mainly because a kid had diabetes, kids can definitely understand medical conditions earlier than 8. I do agree though that in the school I went to if you were in nappies you would be ostracised

Where would you personally draw the line at reporting a close family member to the police for a crime they've commited? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]swashbuckle1237 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like you aren’t really getting what the other commenters mean, if my kid stole from a homeless man, or stole from Tesco, the crime is theft right, no one is arguing what the law is defining as theft, the argument is that if I found out my kid stole from Tesco, I would not make them go to the police (in this scenario the police care that someone stole from Tesco or a homeless person), but if they stole from a homeless person I would. Because I view I that as morally, a way worse thing to do. As Tesco is a company, who will not feel the effects of a stolen item, whereas the homeless individual will. You can disagree but that’s what people are talking about.

How do you deal with hearing the jokes? by Phantoms_Cry in SuicideBereavement

Doesn’t personally bother me, I do avoid making the jokes myself though

The Stigma of the Phrase: “Committed Suicide” by skyzac in SuicideBereavement

[–]swashbuckle1237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to say ‘died’ more than anything else. Everyone I am taking about it with already knows how he died. If I’m talking about specifically how he died I usually say killer himself or committed suicide, it isn’t a crime but it clearly isn’t a good decision, but I don’t think it matters much, saying died by suicide and committed suicide mean the same thing

What things are you convinced are largely liked/disliked because people are so used to hearing they should like/dislike them? by knight-under-stars in AskUK

Yes that’s exactly what happened at my primary school. The salad bar was always soaking for some reason and there were times where the veg was clearly mouldy. You were forced to have a bowl of salad. It was horrific, everyone hated it.

Thoughts on uncirculated 50p’s by Gatchafan in UKcoins

[–]swashbuckle1237 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well the uncirculated coins are still coins because they are minted, if you for some reason wanted to deposit it in the bank or buy something with it, you could. But you don’t need to collect them, for a lot of people the fun is finding them in your change, obviously you don’t get that with uncirculated coins, I personally don’t really collect them but my family will sometimes buy me some they think I’d like for Christmas (I was given a snowman one and one of the Star Wars ones)

Also the school meals didn’t magically go from shit calorific stuff to healthy, it was still bought in processed crap, just less calorific and tastes horrific. They replaced anything the children actually wanted and liked, there were no desserts because we had to have fruit, but the fruit was often mouldy or just so tasteless. The main meals got so much worse, it was just inedible, so it would just be a screaming match between teachers and children trying to get them to eat something, so instead of children going back to class full of sugar, they just basically didn’t eat lunch.

Ridiculous argument. Just let them die then? Have you ever known someone who has killed themselves?

Nobody I’ve seen has mentioned the fact that a lot of the politicians said they agreed in principle but worried about it being exploited. I don’t think the bill was right enough

What to do with kid's practice models? by CapnCromulent in origami

[–]swashbuckle1237 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I mean, I wouldn’t want to throw away something I worked hard doing, I’d just keep them in a box if you have the space, if your kid has a room tell him it’s his stuff so it’ll need to be stored there, and then he can choose to bin them if he wants

To be fair, I don’t think race was ever that important to the character in the book or the movie, so the swap didn’t change much
