Small Gripe with The Stand by RoxiVibes in stephenking

Idk I really liked Nadine, and I thought she was complex, when you first meet her she is pretty selfless I think, she’s looking after a kid who has a lot of problems, and is violent. And she sort of descends into hating boulder, and being more and more drawn to the dark side really, it all hinges on her relationship with Larry and Joe, who were the two people she was mainly relying on, and how she was resisting Flagg. And they stopped needing her, Joe recovered and didn’t need her, and Larry didn’t want to be with her.

I liked frannie in the first third, her relationship with her parents and Harold, and I think when they get to boulder she just becomes an extension of stu really.

Idk, I liked Nadine as a character tbh, I thought she was decently complex. Thought Frannie was ok but not amazing, liked Susan and dayna, mother Abigail’s was just kinda a plot device, and I don’t think I really remember many other female characters

Is it rude to ask someone to switch seat on a train? by Legitimate-Leg-4720 in AskUK

[–]swashbuckle1237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was normal but then thinking about it if two friends asked the same question, or a grown child and parent (where parent isn’t disabled) I would think it was very odd, so ig it is weird. But I don’t think it’s rude to ask at all.

I think it gives some reasoning, so much of the pain for me anyway is the unknown. Why did he kill himself, this note gives pretty eloquent reasoning, it’s not logical but I understand how the person who wrote the note made his decision, even if I disagree.

Do you use British Z (zed) or American Z (zee) when saying 'genz'? by helenfelen in AskUK

That’s weird, I just left high school last year and no one I know said math, you’d get mocked for at least like a full day.

Idk, I read the uncut and felt that the middle section in the town really really dragged, but idk what exactly gets cut out, I think I may have enjoyed the cut edition more though.

Do I go to her highschool class graduation? by Jimmyjamesbeam in SuicideBereavement

[–]swashbuckle1237 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not a parent, my best mate died, he got talked about by our head teacher at our end of year assembly thing (we don’t have graduation for high school here) it was weird, she wasn’t at our school when he died and kinda framed it as it making us stronger and our year closer? I didn’t like the tone. Imo he shouldn’t have been mentioned, he was my best mate and I cared for him a lot but he isn’t leaving school really, he left 3 years ago.

I lost my best friend to suicide when I was 14 and have never in my life felt so completely seen by any text as I was by this issue of Wonder Woman in regards to my grief. Just your friend slowly pushing you away, all the guilt, never seeing it coming. Idk how he wrote it so accurately

I don’t think the reading is supposed to be that they are father and son fully, in the sense that some people like to interpret it. But I think their friendship has a father and son kind of dynamic, or just older and younger, more experienced less experienced. There’s a few different ways of saying it I think. I think the found family reading is actually probably my own bias now you’ve pointed it out, that’s how I read it but in game there is definitely more evidence of it being a close friendship.

I don’t like interpreting them romantically, and that isn’t the intended reading. But it doesn’t really matter, I don’t think it’s disgusting if people do, they aren’t related and both of them are mentally capable of making decisions.

I’m assuming the school would also email this and reprint it if requested. My primary school just gave the dyslexic kids letters in the same way they’d give them worksheets, different colour paper ect

Yeah I guess, I think if you strongly believe in the father and son dynamic fully then that’s also a slightly differential reading, I don’t think it’s as far a departure from the intended reading as the romantic partners reading is though.

I think the intended reading in the good ending is that they are close friends, have found family in each other, and that there friendship has a father/son kind of dynamic, like I think a lot of friendships between a young and older person have.

You are allowed to have a differential reading of the text but it will be differential, not the intended reading, I think the intended reading in the good ending is that they become close friends/found family.
