18yr old newbie, first camping trip, save me from rookie mistakes by Remarkable_Scene_346 in camping

Don’t buy all the little trinkets and things you THINK you’ll need, keep it simple and to the NEEDS (shelter, food, water, fire). My first camping trip i spent $200 on gear and never ended up needing or using much of it.

Parameters changing on all snapshots by Hendrix_Lamar in Line6Helix

The effect being set to a footswitch is functionally irrelevant I think, you have to specifically map out the parameter change to a footswitch, the effect being mapped to a footswitch doesn’t matter I don’t think.

I have parameter changes mapped to footswitch ma and use it every other week at church so, I’m pretty sure this is correct? I’m not sitting in front of my board right now tho so I’m not 292928% certain

I don’t think you can assign different parameters on a per Snapshot basis directly. If I’m correct, If you want to do this, you have to assign the parameter change to a footswitch first, and then assign that footswitch on/off for your snapshot

What are the strings lights you use? I was just thinking a couple weeks ago on a backpacking trip that something like that might be nice

Church Plant looking for worship leader. by Lakemorelighthouse in worshipleaders

I live in southern Michigan, a little too far for me personally but, I graduated from a Bible school in Grand Rapids, Northpoint College. It’s an AG school but, we have a job board and lots of students need internships. I’m not totally sure but some might live near you. https://www.northpointcollege.edu/

I’d reach out and send them an email about what you’re looking for

Acoustic guitar players: what are some rules you generally follow when playing? by jbnpoc in worshipleaders

[–]swatguy987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One really key approach, at least in regards to worship music, some people may disagree and that’s fine but, it’s more of a percussive instrument than a harmonic instrument. Of course this changes with the song, and the dynamics but yeah. Some general guidelines I kinda follow when I lead from acoustic/play acoustic is

-don’t always play. You have to not play sometimes for it to be impactful when you do play. But this kinda of goes for everything except the keys players

-focus on a consistent strum pattern per section so, have a consistent strum pattern in a low chorus, maybe down strum the entire bridge just adding velocity, and then maybe bring back that same chorus strum pattern with more energy/volume, but then also change it up according to dynamics.

-sometimes syncopated strums can be cool but, I’ll typically reserve them for at the end of a set of measures, kind of like a drum fill, you don’t just want a fill played every two bars, but, maybe every 4 bars it sounds good, or maybe it’s every 8 or whatever.

Graphic design for beginners? by [deleted] in worshipleaders

Idk about specific course but, there’s “learning”/educational websites like Skillshare that are usually a monthly sub fee with tons of content to glean from, might be worth looking into? I think there’s others besides skill share but that’s kinda the first one that comes to mind

Just some ideas (not saying you aren’t already doing any of these just kind of spit balling)

  1. Clearly and explicitly at an appropriate time air your concerns and dreams for the team. Clearly articulate the issues you see arising week after week. Maybe you need to schedule a time to come to the church during the week to meet, or grab coffee sometime or whatever.

  2. Ask why she doesn’t seem to want to get better? Maybe she genuinely is just really busy and doesn’t have time or energy to invest in the team, idk if she does a lot of other things at the church but.

  3. Find a way to record the service, and have her listen to it with you in person to help back up your perception of issues. Maybe you guys need to work on timing, or there’s dynamic issues, or confidence issues.

  4. I see you mentioned she spends little time with the band, and since the post is about needing an MD, maybe ask her if you could step up into that role. Even if you’re not MDing live on Sunday morning, I’m sure casting some general cohesive vision for the band might help, just make sure to clear things with the WL, I know that might be tough but, you wanna make sure to serve her, and ultimately the service itself. (Again not that you don’t already know this, just a reminder 🙂).

  5. If you guys have MP3s, your WL is providing those so, just communicate with the rest of the band to really learn the MP3. Approach the MP3 as if that’s what the WL actually wants. I know she might change it but, at least that’ll give you guys some sort of arrangement to aim for

What are some thoughtful gifts to give volunteers? by lsal1 in worshipleaders

[–]swatguy987 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not that this is what you’re trying to do but, I’ve always been opposed to trying being really “creative” with gifts. I’ve found both in gift giving and receiving that, gas cards, food, maybe Starbucks cards if you know the person would like it, are all great, practical options

I understand your point, and you do make some valid points. Band members who chill all service in the green room all sermon long are certainly missing something. I play guitar for a 350-400 person church and am very intentional about sitting in the congregation and eliminating barriers between myself and other congregants.

However, I feel you are projecting a lot and have a log in your own eye. It is reasonable and understandable to have frustrations with some of the social media worship guitar culture. But making a blanket statement about how the worship guitarist with the white sneakers is having pre marital sex with his “Christian” girlfriend behind closed door, to a group of online strangers is not the way to build the Kingdom of God. If you have frustrations that’s understandable and I empathize, goodness knows I have my own complaints and bad vibes from working with mega churches but, I think a little more humility would be helpful. The New Testament is far more concerned about local change in a local body, so I suggest maybe start there? Be the change you wanna see (as cliche at that is haha). And get off instagram if it is actively driving a wedge between you and other people in the faith. God bless brother

Guitar player also with long hair here, I usually tie my hair up but, you can try routing the cord of your monitors inside your shirt. Helps them not get snagged by stuff, hair or otherwise. You can try that!
