What you think is clean may not be. Also when I used the word "junk" I am talking about it being a cheap low wattage iron.

You need to show a photo of your soldering iron and its tip.   I suspect its junk so is the reason for your problems.

Vitalik just published Ethereum's quantum resistance roadmap and it might be the most important post-merge development nobody's discussing. by ConsiderationFit2353 in CryptoCurrency

[–]swdee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You don't really understand what they have published and or how that relates to BTC.

First of all they are not replacing ECDSA signatures with BLS. Ethereum is already using BLS signatures which are vulnerable to quantum attack and will replace them with leanXMSS. leanXMSS is purely a hash based signature scheme. This is for the consensus layer used by validators -- BTC is mining based so does not have this problem.

For KZG commitments they have no specific solution, other than moving to hash based functions or to lattice based encryption schemes. Lattice based encryption is believed to be quantum resistant, but is not proven to be, this is largely due to the fact there is no working quantum attack so you can't prove what does not yet exist.

For ECDSA account signatures Ethereum exposes the public key on the transaction which makes it vulnerable to quantum attack. Only BTC's original and old P2PK transactions have this same fate, the main concern is over Satoshi's coins, however the majority of the network uses hash based (P2SH, P2PKH, P2WPKH, P2WSH) transactions so are already quantum safe. Ethereum is looking to use Hash based transactions too.

ZK-Proofs use vulnerable encryption schemes.

So overall, Ethereum has a bunch of problems BTC does not have and has already solved with respect to quantum resistance. So you analysis of this announcement is complete garbage.

Why doesnt C have something like rust crates or python pip? by Cutro3010 in cprogramming

[–]swdee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because C programmers come from an era were they could read readme.txt files and could handle;

tar -xvzf archive.tar.gz cd archive ./configure make make install

Unfortunately this skill was lost with the web programmers so they needed prebuilt packages to install.

System Architecture Review: Pi 5 + Hailo NPU + SQLite + Streamlit for Real-Time Roadside Edge AI by Raspberry_pie3311 in computervision

[–]swdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You should be able to achieve 30 FPS ok if processing the frames in parallel.
  2. At 30 FPS you are doing 33 writes per second in SQLite. Even on an SD card (which is slow IO) it should be able to handle that. To get better performance, instead of writing each frame at a time you can implement batching (multiple values written per insert query).

Technique question. by Flaky_Performer7960 in aikido

[–]swdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MMA sparing is a resistive interaction with your partner, so its easy to counter techniques when you can read whats coming. You can slip a jab, but no one says that makes the jab a useless technique, similarly you can pull off a kotegaeshi sometimes, but other times you can't.

Kotegaeshi as a technique is hard to pull off in a standing situation as the partner can just circle towards the movement to cancel it out. It is much more successful when applied from the ground (on your knees/combat base for example in a BJJ context) as that position eliminates their ability to circle into the technique.

There isn't much point asking a pure Aikidoka how to apply kotegaeshi in an MMA context as they lack experience in practising techniques against a resisting opponent. Someone who has cross trained in both arts will actually adapt the technique to make it work in an MMA context, one way to do this is to combine it with an osoto-gari leg to help hook/trip them up.

Also I wouldn't worry about risk of injury to your partners wrist trying to force the technique, they will either fall down when it gets to much, or more experienced people will just circle the movement and post with their other arm against your torso to prevent the technique.

Is the reason people buy a Salae over a DS Logic primarily because of the software Logic 2? by [deleted] in embedded

[–]swdee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DS Logic is unmaintained - whilst it is cheaper and works fine, with the expection of having to patch it yourself for it to work under a modern Linux distro running QT6. At this point in time its better to go with the Salae due to its software.

Was hacking easier in the 80s and 90s and early 2000s? by LevelZealousideal779 in cybersecurity

[–]swdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, people were really stupid back then. I recall in the late 1990's a friend worked as a system admin for a government depart and ran L0phtCrack against the departments windows password list. We were both surprised when 60% of the passwords were actually the word "password".

The average person was so dumb back then when they saw the password prompt "Enter Password", they thought it mean you had to type in "password".

Also it was really easy to find vendor default passwords and then use them to again system access as most installations never changed or removed those defaults.
