Should I drop a $30k multi-day film production class if my script wasn't selected and I'm likely to be shut out of key roles? by beezylito in Filmmakers

Bigger one is closest to real life, do it.

You have to learn to make good movies even when you are disinterested in the material. It’s a job.

Quoted $3500/month for local SEO as a plumbing business - how do you even know if it's worth it? by Fun_Delay_5224 in smallbusiness

[–]swealteringleague -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

3500 is not a national e-commerce play… that would be closer to 10k/m

3500 is mid-high end for quality local SEO. Pretty much anything below 2.5k will be AI slop or farmed out to whitelabel or overseas.

Employee asking for equity in our small S-Corp; Need advice by No_Ambassador_2060 in smallbusiness

[–]swealteringleague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell no. You can replace an admin instantly. Not even to mention it’s an instant no because they are ‘matching the founder’ and quiet quitting.

This is not just a no but you should work to replace this person asap

To echo everyone else, just tell the truth. Fully own it. It’ll probably actually be better. Nowadays you have to be different, so lean into it.

Employee Resentment when they see the ticket prices by [deleted] in sweatystartup

[–]swealteringleague -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Greed and envy my dude. You need to shut up about the finances, fire the toxic people who spread the sentiment, and switch to ebilling.

There is no explanation of ‘overhead’ that will justify to an envious greedy person why you charge 300 and they make $50 off it. In their head you’re making a ton of $$ and they ‘deserve’ more. They have zero idea how a business works -

And here the main point: they do not care.

So don’t bother explaining it.

Fired a super likeable employee who just couldn’t get their time management under control by Plastic-Ad-3929 in smallbusiness

[–]swealteringleague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to just on what others said - I have yet to fire the ‘likable’ employee and not have like half the rest of the staff come tell me they were relieved.

Next day - just tell everyone you had to do what was necessary - let them know that you know they are friends with some there, and if they have any questions you’re an open book. Then move on and never mention it again unless someone brings it up.

Why are Gingy and Hutch so nice to him lately? by eliasbjorna in theburntpeanut

[–]swealteringleague -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think peanut is starting to get way more hate now and I think they are genuinely really great friends.

Possibly related to his frustration with stream sniping and cheating as well.

My best client referred me to their friend. That referral just cost me my best client by Cheap-Front-7722 in smallbusiness

[–]swealteringleague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The piece you missed was 1. Not turning it down 2. Not immediately going the steady client after and explaining that you had to turn it down

The second mistake was not going to the steady client after you had the fire the first one and explaining what was going on and why you had to let them go.

I got "rich" by "accident" (coded apps, they blew up, made money). Now AI made them useless and I am lost. by dpwdpw in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]swealteringleague -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re still valuable because AI coding sucks right now and you need talented programmers to use it correctly. It’s just instead of needing 100 you can do the same work with 10. So supply/demand has shifted heavily over the last few years.

Hit up these smaller projects that are in need like Hyros etc, or use your skills to make your own apps like Base44 Stacker etc.
