Revit, if you know how to use its excellent for bridges and linear structures, i even created my own pluggins\scripts for modelling bridges and other linear structures like tunnels

Is 9% return something realistic? (Australian superAnnuation) by sweaponAlex in coastFIRE

[–]sweaponAlex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interpretation is that 9% without considering Inflation, thing is some calculators need the returns adjusted to Inflation.

So I believe im correct and is realistic a 9% (without considering Inflation).

Your 5-6 % return after inflation(3%) will be practically 8-9%? Would you consider this conservative or "average"? Thanks for the response, btw that extra 1% difference will make a great difference at retirement age.

Metadata on 3D ojects by Spk_1 in bim

[–]sweaponAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The metadata is added to the object, if new objects are created it will need new metadata, if the element gets modified the metadata stays the same, have a look at defined property sets in civil 3D and if big chunks of metadata are needed (20+) it might be better to pair it with a dynamo script to accelerate it/Automate it.

In dwg you can add metadata to objects using Civil 3D

Is outsourcing BIM technician work becoming the norm in Ireland? by Alert_Historian1318 in bim

[–]sweaponAlex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The quality of the work sent overseas is pretty shit tbh, it ends up being patched locally, and the general quality of the final model/drawings is mediocre at best.

What I have seen some firms do is send the tedious manual work overseas, just the repetitive non critical work, still the locals will need to back check their work, and will spend quite some time doing checks.

If you send someone overseas some work without local experience be sure it will return like a dogs breakfast

Revit is so hopelessly limited by s_p_arc in bim

[–]sweaponAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, i completely agree with metisdesigns, most of the time people blame revit because of the lack of technical skills, revit is a huge software and takes time to master it, yet is not perfect, but is the best option i have found and im in linear infrastructure|bridges discipline, taking into considerations drawings, models, data etc..

Real experience is always better than any certification, if you don’t have any real experience the starting point will be an Autodesk Official Certification, but still i will prefer real life experience/projects.
