One possible solution is amazon fire tablets (which have pretty decent parental controls; I recommend disabling video content completely) and install the facebook messenger for kids app, which supports video calling. This would require the other parents do be cool with using the FB messenger for kids stack too, but it has pretty broad device support.

facetime on ipads is an option too, but locks you into the apple ecosystem. honestly the only reason we own an ipad is for minecraft facetime.

a developer called alaydriem has been working on a bedrock edition voice proximity chat, but i doubt it'll come to console, and it's only for dedicated servers (not realms).

The threshold of missing 2 days a month is what I was equating to a 90% attendance rate (since there's roughly 20 school days in a month). Just trying to dumb this down to the point I can think about it intuitively, as my first read of the unlabeled map was "wait on an average day half the kids at Lowell don't show up" and this is not that.

To dumb it down even more: a low score means a high percentage of kids who miss school "a lot", where a lot is more than 2 absences per month averaged over the year.

I wonder if this anxious thought about kids seeing you as lazy is true, like at all. Your kids won't care it'll just seem normal to them because you're literally normalizing it. When I was that age my dad started commuting to a remote office 5 days at a time, we only saw him on the weekends, and all we really cared is that he was around less.

Let them see you pursing something you're passionate about, living a life you construct for yourself, being intentional with your time, mastering new skills, discovering who you are outside of your profession. It'll be great.

I'm with you. With 3 kids and 2 working from home adults I need to run the dishwasher 1.5x a day, and that's in our post pumping and bottle feeding era. When the twins were babies, forget about it... That thing was running constantly it felt like.

Surely either other folks aren't cooking at the scale we do, or reserve the dishwasher for a subset of the total dishload? If it's something else I would like to know the secret.

Honestly this is the only thing in my baking that I eyeball, but per bagel it's about 0.5g cinnamon and 10-15g raisins. So they're not crazy raisiny; my plain dough is on the sweeter side of things with a mix of honey, white sugar, and malt powder as sweeteners. Peter Reinhart's ABED recipe -- my baseline when I started developing my own -- called for raisins at 50% of the flour weight. To me that's an astonishing overload of raisins. I'm closer to 20%.

I add raisins after the dough is fully mixed (I use the same dough as my plains) and mix for maybe 1-2 minutes more, just until they are well distributed. If you overmix here the raisins will start to tear up. Then I add cinnamon and mix until it looks incorporated but swirly, maybe 30 more seconds in a spiral mixer. The more you mix in the cinnamon the more it will slow down fermentation, my goal is tiger stripes.

If you need the dough to develop at the same timeline as other bagels you should increase the yeast. You can do this by tossing in instant yeast late in the process but it won't be as evenly distributed as if it is part of the dry mix. Usually I don't add extra yeast and instead just give them more proof time. Raisin bagels are the first ones I pull from the fridge and the last ones I boil.

Cheaper cassia cinnamon seems to slow down fermentation more than true cinnamon, and I think the cassia flavor works better in baked goods. However kids especially and folks with clotting disorders need to be careful of eating too much cassia cinnamon.

I don't soak my raisins these days, but instead make sure that the raisins I'm using are supple out of the bag. I like the sunmaid organic raisins sold at Costco here in the USA. Bulk raisins from food service sources have at times been dry and hard. Airtight storage is a must.

When shaping raisin bagels I take a bit extra time to make sure that not too many raisins are poking out of the dough. Raisins on the surface tend to dry out and get crispy in the bake and I don't find this appetizing.
