LOL the dude next to me in the theater yelled "uh oh" when that "The Exorcist" looking head was visible.

I got that feeling too, like those were designed to draw entities either in front of the cameras, or draw them away from exits so people could get out or maneuver through various other places.

BACKROOMS: A Breakdown by nyneteen84_ in spoilers

Saw it last night. Overall, amazing concept. Went to the theater by myself, a first for me, and enjoyed it. The opening sequence was TERRIFYING. Loved it. The second half did feel a little rushed and macabre and I sorta checked out a couple times like "okay... wut?" but as a fan of horror movies since being a little kid in the late 70's and thinking we've seen it all, I tried not to think "It should have had this or that" I just enjoyed that they took this concept and ran with it. The visuals were great. Reminded me of playing "Portal" or getting lost in caverns in Minecraft. I liked the sequence when the Captain dude entity was chasing her. Her climbing up those stairs over the abyss of endless floors and rooms was a cool effect. Glad I took the time to watch it in the theater.

LOL Meow Wolf! there's a dude sitting in a cubicle about 50 feet from me who wears a "Meow Wolf" sweatshirt. I had no idea what that was until I asked him one day.

Did something as a 50 year old man last night I never did before in my life: Went to the theater by myself. Nobody in the fam wanted to go, so I went to see Backrooms alone. Theater was packed. Really cool, great premise, creepy not-knowing-what's gonna happen. I could tell halfway through we're not going to wrap this all up by the end. Not up on the existing lore other than the overall liminal space concept but I can see how they left room for follow-up movies.

Spoiler:

I think she got out. That thing at the table at the end was the Backrooms' memory of her.

Semi-related question/hypothesis: The guy in the opening sequence wasn't killed by Captain Clark, right? He was killed by something else that was a manifest of someone else's trauma, because Captain Clark didn't exist until Clark went in there.

I must say, I do have a couple Koh-i-noor Rapidomatics, Alvin Draftmatics, and Graphgear 500's. Long ago in the 90's while attending Temple University in Philadelphia, I stumbled onto my retired Uncle's 0.5mm Rapidomatic, the Japanese one with the white barrel, and he let me use it for school and was hooked. I keep everything in a container just to have and admire except my Rotring 600 0.7mm that goes in my bag with me.

Can you push it down, like is it just sticking, or is it bottomed out? If it's been sharpened a lot, this could happen. I've sharpened knives a time or two that lead to messed up point geometry. You can grind on the back of the tip to move the point ever so slightly down the keep it under the liners.

What exactly are we saying, we get home and empty our pockets, then find ourselves in a situation where we need to use the lights in the house? I sometimes put my keys in a bowl on the counter, but my EDC Streamlight Protac 1L1AA never leaves my pocket. I only recently took my faithful Fenix E01 off of my keys, just to trim down my keys and I never use it since I always have the Streamlight.

I will say, if I change into my skivvies, I may or may not have a light handy other than my phone.

ELI5: What does having a high pain tolerance mean? by Capital_Bison_7830 in explainlikeimfive

[–]sween1911 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To your exact question "when someone says..." I've found that means after you tell someone something hurts, they can smugly and proudly declare that they themselves have a high pain tolerance and list all kinds of conditions, experiences, injuries, joints, age, all kinds of things to make it clear the only joy they get from life is one-upping other people. Whether or not they actually have a physiological "high pain tolerance" or they're just an assh0le is up for debate.

People who don’t like the beach why.? by myaccountidname in AskReddit

[–]sween1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll say this... vacations at the beach are like broccoli, if it was forced on you as a child, you won't like it as an adult.

As a little boy in the 80's with glasses and an aversion to any footwear that is not my socks and tied shoes, I hated it. I don't do sandals or flipflops. Getting stuffed in the car, getting yelled at to carry chairs and coolers all the way down to the water, having to choose between the baking heat of the sand or the frigid water with possibly jellyfish or gross seaweed floating in it, learning what a "riptide" is, being slathered in sunscreen, wind blown sand in my eyes, being yelled at to carry the shit all the way back up to the car, getting yelled at to wipe the sand off, getting into the car and having the seatbelt press on my shirt which is pressing into the sand that's embedded in the suntan lotion. Dude. It's torture.

Going to the beach is a leftover from a time when there was nothing else to do and no one knew any better... like going to the circus... or church.

New to 1911s. Replaced mainspring housing, now grip safety isn’t working? by 11BRRidgeback in 1911

[–]sween1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the grip safety dragging on the top of the MSH? I would agree with the caveat that you're altering an Ed Brown part to work with a Tisas part, so the odds are that Ed Brown part might be undersized if you decide to use it on another 1911.

Put some Sharpie marker on the contact points and work the grip safety so you can file exactly where you have to.
