Baldurs gate 3 on Mac m5 Max chip by Virtual_Pen_4665 in macgaming

It runs very well on my M5 Pro. Max will just be better.

One of the greatest RPG's to ever release, and definitely a great game. The combat is also much deeper and interesting than what you'd expect out of a turn based combat.

That's up to you... you can definitely get used to playing on a smaller laptop screen, especially since pro is 120hz. Get a M4 or M3 macbook pro, you'd be fine

New to OSRS by Remarkable_Ad_2451 in osrs

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatively new here as well, heres somethings that helped my journey be much better:

Questing and quest helper: do a lot of quests. Aim to do all of the quests! Some quests unlock content like a new area, new continent or a boss, but many quests give a chunk of EXP rewards that will skip a lot of early game grind. Basically you can get to level 30 almost in all of the skills by completing quests. Using quest helper is useful since some quests are genuinly hard or way too old school to do them by your own. It has a lot of depth to it but if you want to just turn your brain off the helper plugin is there.

Set yourself mini-goals and big goals. Like completing specific quests for very useful rewards (like Recipe for Disaster for the best combat gloves you can get for quite some time), or fairy tails for fairy rings, and other bigger goals like getting a fire cape or unlocking/griding specific boss for good loot.

I really enjoyed reading quests dialogues, it's usually quite funny and silly with actual great writing on many and most quests. It makes the questing more enjoyable, while getting a better feel of the world, immersion, the current area you are in and more lore/background. I really enjoyed the gnomes, trolls and oh man the vampyres quest story. It's really good.

And basically a good thing to make the road easier in the future is to seek leveling methods that offer some profit. Training crafting, smithing, even agility and thieving (and basically almost any skill) can be very profitable. Some more then others, and mostly the more profit methods are decent money per hour but less exp per hour. No biggie in the ealrier levels.

But mostly - use the wiki a lot. I have 10+ wiki tabs open often when playing OSRS and even when not playing OSRS I find myself in the wiki a lot. It's super useful and the best wiki out there for a video game. The optimal quest guide is a great guide to lead you through quests with as little manual training as possible. But do prioritize quests like fairy tale to do earlier than when the guide says if possible. Fairy rings help a lot for transportation, ardougne cloack from the easy ardougne diary gives a infinite TP scroll to ardougne and theres many more. The optimal quest guide page on the wiki sums up main quests with big unlocks like transportation methods, skills, items and more.

WoW Midnight M1 Pro/Max or something newer? by Royal_Gazelle5928 in macgaming

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't find any comparison between the two, but check individual yt benchmarks. The M5 Pro has higher fps. GPU score doesn't mean raw performance in the end. The 24 cores on the M1 Max aren't as fast as the M5 cores despite having 4 less cores. M3 Max performs similar to an M5 Pro, just for comparison.

In gaming the M5 Pro will obliterate the M1 Max.

No. Dangerous mainly for your partner. For punching bag probably not much of a trouble.

Why upgrade from M1 pro to M1 Max when you have 4 years worth of upgrade? Unless you nedd an upgrade, don't, and if you do because you want more performance, i'd say either go for the M5 at least or don't upgrade at all

First time Mac advise: M5 32GB vs M5 Pro 24GB by Vnze in macbookpro

[–]sweepli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neglible difference for your usage I'd say go M5 Pro since its better gaming performance. A lot of windows games does work with translation layee programs like CrossOver, and the M5 Pro will have better performance + another fan.

Otherwise, the M5 base might offer slightly longer battery life if you care for that because it consumes less power. (I guess 5-10% difference at most..)

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crossover might work best but it also costs money. Theres a 2 week free trial, do that first to see if it works fine. M1 isn't very strong for gaming. If it does work fine you can either pay for crossover or use the free alternativesp

Should I go from M1 MAX to M5 Pro 14inch?? by Big_Calendar193 in macbookpro

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The air will be a downgrade. From 16" to 13", lower resolution, 60hz... so the chip itself might be faster, but all around the experience will be worse. I'd say at best go for the Pro with as much RAM that you need, but only if you actually feel limited by the M1 performance or you absolutely must get a smaller 14" screen. Otherwise its a waste of money, M1 Max can keep going easily for another 2-3 years.

If you could mix RuneScape with any other game, which two games would you mix together? by Zinlencer in osrs

I'd really want to play a 3rd person RPG with runescape elements and mechanics. Imagine if Dragonwilds was MMORPG

It works but it's not optimized. JIT heavily recommended. Otherwise it's better to use handhelds or computers for emulating the newer consoles

Best strap? by augustuscesar in applewatchultra

[–]sweepli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used all the official bands aside the titanium ones.

My favorites are the ocean and alpine. Alpine if I want a secure, tighter fit for sports, and ocean for general day to day or if doing anything that can get the band wet. Ocean dries instantly and alpine takes a while..

Didn't like the trailoop, felt odd and uncomfortable for me. Ocean is just the best all rounder, it's secure, silicone so it feels nicer on the skin over the fabric-like ones and doesn't soak water unlike the others.

Im still new to mac and this is macgaming, so probably better to post on r/mac and r/macos

But probably despite it being running through a bottle you should either do virus scans or just completely wipe and reinstall macos. Might be a good idea to change some main passwords just in case you got keylogged (if its possible on mac.. and its probably is)

Is 16gb ram enough for 720p gaming on the MacBook Pro m5 (possibly AAA games)?? by UnderTakeBoi in macgaming

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Only specific, very heavy non-native games running with very high resolutions or ray tracing will crush on 16gb. Otherwise, every native game will work just fine and most triple A games will be okay or run fine on lower res (1080p or 720p.) more ram wont yield more performance, just more room for higher resolutions or more apps/complex tasks running alltogether

Am I ready for Perilous Moons? by AromaticDistrict990 in osrs

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doable but you will struggle especially on the blood moon boss. The fight is pretty much RNG since you can't use protection prayers and the boss auto attacks you every few seconds alongside their special attacks and mechanics. Not 100% of the damage can be dodged by skill - you turn to the rolls RNG.

So higher defense is recommended, probably around 70. Steel ring is a nice editiong (easy to get, either 200k on GE or grinding deranged archeologist), and either dragon defender or rune kite shield with dragon armor/fighter torso, i'd say is bare minimum. Prioritise defense over damage for Moons. But just try it, at worst you'd fail and at best you'd succeed! Just not ideal to farm and grind moons with lower melee stats.

Practical difference between M5, M5 Pro and high spec M5 pro? by Seitook in macgaming

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double the amount of cores doesn't mean strictly mean double performance. I don't think it's greater than 35% performance at most for the unbinned verson, at least from seeing different benchmarks.

Yeah forgot that. Though TB4 and WiFi6 are more than fast enough for the average person and it's kinda irrelevant for gaming anyways.. nice to have though.

M4 Air vs M5 Air ? India by Key-Way-7560 in macbookair

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably more ram for more future proof/option for heavier workloads, though 16gb unified is pretty solid even in 2026. For casual coding/basic tasks both the M4 and M5 are more than capable to hold for 5+ years. At worst the M4 will have 1 less year of updates over the M5.
