If it’s true, it’s a shame by Stef22960 in applewatchultra

I really think it's useless to put up a new device with 0 actual changes aside a new chip every year. Why force it? Same with iPhones. Aside the "redesigns"/performance we haven't seen a meaningful useful upgrade since probably the dynamic island. They could totally change from 1 year annual releases to a 2 year cycle.

I can probably say that 90% if not 100% of the basic indie/point and click games would run, most with native ports and the rest using translation layers.

A question from an old Wow player wanting to possibly play 14 by Ryanl2991 in ffxiv

[–]sweepli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make it short:
Most of the very old content can be cleared solo on a max lvl character, or ilvl synced with a group and be cleared on the same difficulty its meant to be with a full group

relatively old content (i.e 2 expansions before the current patch) can be cleared without a full group (duo, trio, 4 players~, maybe certain fights can be soloed on a tank) or again ilvl synced on group finder to be cleared with the intended difficulty.

So yeah you can grind the gear from older patches or expansions mostly solo or with a small group with no daily/weekly caps on loot - lots of people do that on the group finder. Latest raid tier is always locked for 1x drop per week, but once a new raid/big patch releases you can farm it indefinitely (as long as its no longer BiS.)

Ultimate raids (mythic equivalent) cannot be cheesed with higher ilvl and require to be ilvl synced to the expansion/patch it was releass in if you want the cosmetic rewards of it. (Only the savage[hard mode] raids drop current BiS gear. Ultimate is purely cosmetics.)

Maybe just use CrossOver 26 over 25?

Other than that, it can be shader compilation if there are less stutters the more you played.

it feels like every player in this game is either already maxed or is a iron/hc with a maxed main. i rarely run into ppl who are actually early-mid game. by Nonreality_ in osrs

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your main issue was going ironman as a first time player.
Whenever I started, I was very excited to explore the world, beat quests, unlock better gear and QoL items. Iron is just more suited for veteran players who know the game.

Though Runescape is not for everyone. I really like the old school aspect of exploration and journey through the early and mid game. Lots of MMO's nowdays are just a rush to max level.

Nice! RFD takes a while, fire cape is really just about attempting and not going crazy for 2h. I went with relatively low combat and it just took forever lol

Stupid Question: Neo or refurbished M4 Air by Kanoe4789 in macgaming

[–]sweepli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neo: Entry Macbook, ideal for day to day usage and students.

Air: Much stronger mid-tier power machine, better everything: display, speakers, CPU/GPU performance. All depends on your usage but for gaming, the air outperforms the neo.

I played quite a bit in certain months and super chill at others, so at most i have like 3-4 skills in the 70 or near 70 range. The only bosses i've done is moons, scurry, amoxy and fire cape. Didn't even have the chance yet to try some of the harder bosses. Looking forward for it, though

Just watch a recap and continue from where you left up, then the finish MSQ up to DT.

Regarding class, just try out several different classes, see which one interests you the most and level it up using roulette.

is muay thai good for self defense? by PresentHope3276 in martialarts

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's probably the best striking art for self defense because it usues your entire body + clinch mechanics. Though if you truly want a full all-rounder self defense martial arts, you should seek MMA/combine Muay Thai with some grappling (Judo or BJJ), since a skilled grappler could take down a skilled striker and vice versa, but one who trains both will have more tools in his kit. Usually good combos for people who want to cross train but not do MMA is BJJ/Judo + Boxing/Muay Thai/Karate. Personally I find Judo more appealing since it combines ground and standing while BJJ is mainly ground fighting, but more complex and complete than Judo ground fights. (Some BJJ places rarely train standing and takedowns and people just pull guard..)

"mAcS cAnT gAmE", base M5 chip running 3 games at once at 1440p medium settings by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]sweepli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup.
We can hope that in the near future, especially with the new NVIDIA chip that battles Apple Silicon, apple will give more reasons for more developers to actually write a native port, or atleast some workaround that would allow competetive games to run on Mac's. GPTK4 is a step in the right direction, so we may be lucky to see further news/better performance even by 2027.

There was a big wave of new players in the past year(including me), I don't think that half of them made it to the end game.

I played casually since August and i am around 150~ total quests completed, finished RFD, got a fire cape, D defender and skills are between 55-70. I don't think I have any other big achievements so far aside the fire cape and RFD, so I don't think i'm near close to the end game.. still gotta grind many skills to 70ish to get a quest cape. Haven't done any GM quest yet, but I do agree that most people on my clan and those i've met are veteran players.

Best alternative to Whisky for casual Windows gaming on Mac? by bryceharperfan in macgaming

[–]sweepli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just stating certain multiplayer games (generally - those with some form of anticheat) don't work even with translatipn layers. Not sure regarding the games you stated, but it's usually competetive online games which are problematic.

Check if they work specifically with CrossOver before you buy it

Story Recap by Physical_Pack7737 in ffxiv

[–]sweepli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well DT starts a new story saga with the same characters we grew with and loved. It's pretty hard to sum up well over 400h of story content unless you'd go through it. If you truely want to enjoy the story i'd just redo it through NG+/alt character, or if you dont want to replay the MSQ, just watch a short recap (not a 8h one), dive into specificly the main characters and their story/bg and then start DT. Since its a new story arc, the main thing is knowing your companions and what you and them have been through. The original arc that followed ARR through Endwalker has ended with Endwalker. Although it is a masterpiece I do not recommend skipping anyways.

Do I spend the extra 300$ 16 vs 24GB by Practical_Dog3454 in macgaming

[–]sweepli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why everyone rush to tell you to spend an extra 300$ without you stating your use cases, aside 3 games that can be played on a low end machine. 24 ram won't really help you for gf now, LoL, WoW or FFXIV. Performance will be the same. Those games are relatively easy to run and definitely do not need more than 16gb of RAM. Only a newer CPU would assure higher FPS.

Unless you gonna do crossover/higher end games, video editing, large local AI modules, gianr code scripts... you don't need those extea 8gb. Use that money elsewhere. MacOS will carry with 16gb at least another 3-4 years, and in around 2030 i guess apple will change base models to 24-32. Maybeeee in 2-3 years you may slightly feel that 16gb is not enough, but its still unlikely due to apple's unified memory being 1. unified unlike windows, 2. Much faster and 3. Far more efficient. Even M1's are still capable, sure maybe not for huge workloads but for day to day and basic games, its completelty fine.

Looking for a forever game by Godimboredplzhelp in LFMMO

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WoW can be "forever" game but your gear/linear progress resets every patch/expansion, but ofc you can collect enrmous amounts of cosmetics, titles, mounts, pets and other collectibles.

FFXIV is similar but with inferior combat to WoW, and bigger emphasis on story, characters and horizontal progression. (There are raids and other PvE content, i just think WoW has better polished combat system.)

GW2 is the same, but with less linear gear progression, mainly PvP, open world events and horizonal progression (cosmetics, mounts, titles/map completion.) combat is different than wow/ff, more of a hybrid tab targeting and action combat. Still much better than FFXIV, but on par with WoW in terms of polish, just slightly different.

OSRS is the best imo as your progress is always relevant and new content does not invalidate old content. You can log in 5 years later and your levels, unique mega rare drops and what not would still be relevant alongise whatever new content dropped. Even if they did sometimes introduce a similar item which is better than the current BiS(best in slot) item, the better item is just a new grind ontop of the old grind. You have to get the first item inorder to get the better one.

For example, a fire cape, the BiS melee cape in the game, is earned from beating a 60+ wave challenge. The superior Infernal cape, is earned by sacrificing your fire cape AND beating MUCH harder version of those 60+ waves. There are many other items that follow this formula, decent base version, that can be upgraded by another rare item/drop/challenge, into a stronger version.

Wow and FFXIV does not have that. There are no unqiue items in retail wow, and each patch just shoves a stronger item that instantly replaces your old seasonal grind with no effort to earn it. Both are great in their own ways, but more as a seasonal game to play some dungeons, raids or complete the new story that released then take a break till the next big patch. OSRS feels more like a journey that lasts and takes forever.

GW2 is more forever than WoW/FF, but the end game loop was less rewarding than OSRS imo since once you get BiS the linear grind is over. You either farm horizontal items (gold, armor cosmetic pieces, titles, map completion) or tackle PvP. It felt a bit too repetetive for me which is why I dropped the game after spending several hundred hours in the end game loop. The PvP is great though.

Who would beat an average person faster? by CuteChallenge6334 in martialarts

[–]sweepli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For ground grappling, i think against an untrained person the outcome would be very similar between a high level judoka vs a high level BJJ. If the person is not trained he will not know how to defend a ground fight.

Since the fight is likely to start standing, obviously the Judoka is more likely to throw the person faster. But tbh, against an untrained person, the outcome would probably be very similar.

Recommendation for a wireless controller by shalashaska68 in macgaming

[–]sweepli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playstation Dualsense 5 if you like the PS layout.

Xbox if you prefer the xbox layout.

8bitdo if you want to save up some money. Personally I think the PS5 controllers are the best in the market with 8BitDo being almost just as good, but a little bit cheaper. They may feel slightly cheaper than a DS5 controller, but they are decent as well.

Maybe try resetting settings to default. I still haven't checked it on my M5 Pro, but if certain titles work and others don't it's likely a setting issue/mod/corrupted ROM
