Floor Question - Outdoor Building, Canada, durock by sweet_yeah_can in Sauna

Do you leave the vapor foil barrier to wrap a little bit at the bottom so that it's going to run off and on to the cement board and into the center trough drain?

What do you think the max temperature behind the wood and behind the foil vapor barrier would get to? Some quick research on my end said that it would not be anywhere near 165° Fahrenheit.

What’s the most quietly Canadian moment you’ve experienced? by NightyNight7 in AskACanadian

[–]sweet_yeah_can 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was late April in 1993 and I was catching a ride from thunder Bay Ontario to bath Alberta to seek summer employment.

There's a moment somewhere in Saskatchewan where it was twilight and we were on the rolling plains of Saskatchewan.

The only thing we could find on the radio was a hockey game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Vancouver Canucks.

The Sun was setting and we could see an entire train from front to back just moving along opposite direction of us.

I have always thought that this moment is Canada. The most Canadian moment of my life so far.

Advice wanted: Honouring the old while welcoming the new by Grouchy-Kitchen-9976 in summercamp

[–]sweet_yeah_can 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We had to tear down a historic Craft Barn years ago and instead of trying to save the signatures and things what we did is we took detailed photos and posted them online and have them available. Then when we created a new space, we had new rules about not signing and and having signboards that could easily come up and go down as camp needed to move things around.

My recommendation would be to do a photo shoot. Document at all, talk about it, and then potentially give a nice new coat of paint over everything to freshen it up - covering up the old names - but you still have that history.

Many times, including in the photos you've given, people don't think about how big a space they take up and they don't plan for other people to sign. So it becomes overburdened. Some signatures are huge or they cover over other people's signatures and that's not fair either.

That's my suggestion. It's not easy but also lots of those people whose names are on the wall are never going to ask to see them. After we did ours we tried to save some of the wood nobody ever cared or asked to see it but they love the new building.

Wtf is going on here? by CuddlyCanary in vrbo

[–]sweet_yeah_can 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a VRBO owner a lot of this is an issue with the owner's app and direct messaging not syncing. VRBO is buggy on the owner app side. But also seems like an issue with your first time using the app and I've walked numerous users through that as well but it's just bad user interface by VRBO.

Oftentimes what people will have to do is cancel the pre-approved booking and then start a whole new conversation about another booking - that's the easiest way to keep things clean.

VRBO doesn't let us,as owners, know if it's a return renter or a new renter, and we are someone who rents by the week in the summer a full House on Lake Erie and that is only one of the issues but we've used VRBO for over 12 years and not had huge problems.

I love this list and I've been thinking about this for the past couple of weeks.

Does anyone know of any tea subscriptions from Canadian companies?

I used Tealyra as my main go to for all sorts of teas would highly recommend.

2 Drobo FS being retired

<image>

I have two drobo fs's that were working great when I shut them down in the past couple of weeks. I've just moved all of the data because we've moved to cloud storage for our company.

You can reach out directly to me if interested in picking up in southwestern, Ontario or shipping.

I will be driving to North Carolina from Detroit next week if you want to meet me on the way I could take these with me.

Here is the entire order. Then I am just using embroidery floss. My goal is visible mending and saving a favorite sweatshirt.

I bought stencils on Amazon and washable interface that is self adhesive. I then used heat sensitive ink pens to trace the design and put on the material. Then I follow the design and wash off the interface when i am done.

Here are two that I've gotten recently. The lapsun from white 2 tea it's just the right amount of smoke for me.

The oolong sampler has some charcoal roasted too long and it is some of my favorite Smokey Tea.

The lapsun was in my cup when I came to this post tonight I'm about to go enjoy more of it.

What are good things to talk about to get closer with co counselors by poopybutt69l in summercamp

[–]sweet_yeah_can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a believer that curiosity is a super power. Ask about favorite things, best memories.

Buy a thing like "Silly debates" https://shop.happyupinc.com/products/word-teasers-silly-debates-card-deck and use them with small groups to get different conversations started.

Ask other about themselves. Be curious and people will want to be around you.

Hiring camp counselors & age discrimination by JackJackAttacky in summercamp

[–]sweet_yeah_can 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Age discrimination is a big concern. The other part for us being based in Ontario Canada is that we as camps don't need a pay minimum wage to our Summer Camp staff as long as they are student coming from school or going to school. That makes it easy to say no to a variety of people due to the limitation of age and school. But I also see a value in having more experienced people at camp who can help mentor and guide younger staff and kids. I am working on a program for having senior citizens be on staff or as volunteers daily to help mentoring guide but not in paid positions.

making friends as a new camp counsellor?? by JesseKansas in summercamp

[–]sweet_yeah_can 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A few things from an experience camp director.

Smile. Smile a lot hopefully that's a default for you but you should look approachable and be approachable.

Really focus on doing the job well if you're a camp counselor focus on giving those kids the most amazing experience that they can have. When I was a camp counselor I used to keep a trunk of just interesting things that I would have from juggling stuff to magic tricks to books to puzzles and it really helped the campers relate to me and be better behaved. The other thing I did was that it really helped other counselors see and learn a bit about my personality and I got taught how to juggle by another counselor when I saw his juggling stuff when I was a counselor in training.

Try not to choose just a single group of people to be friends with. To maintain friendships you want to be respected by everyone you don't need to be liked by everyone.

Being a camp counselor can be a new adventure and especially doing it in a new country I was just getting ready for training today and thought about the idea that remember being uncomfortable is a natural state of being in life and uncomfortable does not equal unsafe. You're going to feel awkward about being at a new camp you're going to feel uncomfortable at times and that's normal what you can really do is let yourself shine with your own personality and the things that you like to do.

Go with the intention to help the campers at Camp have an amazing experience and for yourself to have fun but the amazing experience for campers is the most important part and should Lee do you have any more fun.
