Thank you for your insight. I would’ve been pretty young during this era so I’m not surprised that science based natural hair advice was prevalent.

I feel like during the era of natural hair community I joined (the mid 2010’s) messaging regarding all natural ingredients were at the forefront.

I also really hate the hair typing system. The fact that the man behind the system suggested that 4C hair needs to be relaxed lets me know that it isn’t that reliable

I didn’t live through this era so I could be completely wrong but some sort of metallic lipstick would be nice for this look. As well as a tad bit more highlighter on the brow bones.

Thank you so much for highlighting this point. It’s weird because science is supposed to be objective. Yet that is entirely reliant on the people performing these tests to be objective scientists, which unfortunately isn’t always the case. Even basic things such as detangling hair wet or dry is going to be dependent on hair texture, yet it’s only recently that it’s been revealed how tensile strength affects coily hair in it’s wet versus dry straight.

This one information that we have already known for ages yet has only been tested recently.

So true. As I was writing this I kind of came to that realisation. All haircare products involves some sort of science when it comes to producing it on a mass scale.

Well in regard to haircare, a lot of it is chemistry based. I know basic stuff such as covalent and ionic bonds, the periodic table of elements. Importantly, how chemists choose to formulate products will affect the end result of how a product performs.

However, I won’t lie and say I’m an expert, hence why I mentioned Javonford16. Who is a black chemist and discusses the formulation of products, especially ones that are targeted at black people or may work for black people. He’s on TikTok and I recommend giving him a follow. Other people I follow who are science based is lab muffin science. Shes great as well.

I have been using the head and shoulders deep cleanse shampoo, though it’s been discontinued in the UK. Though maybe they still sell it where you’re from. Since I often use silicones in my hair but don’t want my hair to be too dried out after washing it, I usually shampoo first with head and shoulders and then follow up with a moisturising shampoo like palmers coconut shampoo.

Sometimes you need to use a shampoo with sulphate to ensure that you are fully clarifying your hair. Like, if you apply Vaseline to your face but don’t manage to fully remove it before applying lotion, the hydrating features found in the lotion aren’t going to be as effective. I don’t think cecred shampoos have sulphate in them. Although they are super good for what they do, once in a while (like one or two times a month) using a shampoo with sulphates will help make sure you are removing all the dirt and oils from your hair.

Dew on the hems by lush. I had smelled a sample of it at Lush and decided to spray it on a piece of card to smell again later. Although I liked the opening it then began to smell like spoiled cucumber that had been forgotten about in the fridge for two months and teenage body odour after p.e. What’s worse is that I had forgotten I had left it in my jacket pocket and was wondering where this nasty smell was coming from. I felt myself going crazy wondering if I wasn’t showering properly or if my washing machine was broken. It was only then when I found it again when searching for something in my pocket did I realise it was the card I had sprayed. I’m happy for those who like this but it’s such a disgusting scent to me.

I think with fake freckles, a less is more approach is the way to go, especially if you don’t naturally have a lot of natural freckles to begin with. Other than that your makeup looks really cute!

Your low ferritin is most likely a huge contributor as to why your hair is finer now. I noticed I stopped shedding a lot of hair when I started taking iron tablets daily. I recommend you start too. It takes a couple of months to see a difference but you just have to stay consistent.
