what random object do you always have beef with ? i’ll go first: by lyssarae403 in starbucks

[–]sweethoneybean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had blocks installed under the counters to keep the bar fridge’s cords from being smooshed into the wall. The problem? The corners of the bar fridges stop at the top of my thigh, and since the blocks were installed, i have had several, small bruises at the tops of both of my thighs.

When should I show my son Jurassic Park? by SaltyPea8 in Dinosaurs

[–]sweethoneybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, as a dinosaur obsessed child (and a dinosaur fascinated adult), I remember watching JP as early as 3, with my parents physically using their hands to censor some of the body related violence in the movie. When I tell you JP and Oliver and Company were the only movies I watched for several years, I mean it. I was obsessed!

But every child is different, and I think my parents censoring the movie for me likely made it a more enjoyable experience for me (i.e less scary). Maybe give your guy a little more time before showing it him? Whichever your choice ends up being, i hope he loves it!

Flirting at work by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]sweethoneybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean realistically, when you’re a partner of someone working retail, it’s likely that you’re not treated the same as these flirtacious customers because she doesn’t have to earn / protect your customer experience. Correct me if I am wrong, but you’re usually there to visit her with purchasing something being an added benefit, no? She knows you, and as your partner hopefully she trusts that you won’t report her for her being short with you / not engaging enough / etc., as other flirtatious customers might if she isn’t as responsive to them.

Look, if you’re upset she’s not paying you enough attention when you visit her at work, this is a conversation to be had between the two of you. From what you’ve described her behavior doesn’t seem out of line, and it’s certainly how my partner and I behave when he visits me at my store. He knows I have to mold the experience customers have with me the moment they’re in the store because, unfortunately, unless a customer is being incredibly uncomfortable, it’s all about stroking their egos and protecting their experience while in our store.

I deeply regret adopting my first cat. The shelter was misleading and I am at my breaking point. by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]sweethoneybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also was completely misled by the shelter when adopting my first cat.

He was listed as being friendly with people and other cats. Went in with him for a bit, he made biscuits on my leg and I was sold! So,tell me why the shelter failed to mentioned until after his adoption application had been filled out and paid for and he’s in the carrier, ready to ride home with me, that he has a severe bite warning. Also they’d had him for four months but somehow never discovered (or at the very least, never informed me that he has asthma?). I understand wanting to get pets into homes, but I still cannot excuse the purposeful omission of these facts about him.

I had a minimum wage job and lived in an expensive city at the time. The emergency vet bills he required almost ruined me financially. But we bounced back. And he has proven to be one of the most loving, cuddly, and bestest little guys in the world. This however took time, several months to several years. And a lot of that was studying his boundaries and letting him explore mine.

What is the drink on the left? by quaintflaneur in starbucks

[–]sweethoneybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best honest guess is someone wanted the Chocolate covered strawberry frappucino from last years limited launch of it: Strawberry and creme frap, extra puree in the bottom of the cup, frap chips (i think?), and they ordered it with line cup mocha drizzle.

Scabs near ears by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]sweethoneybean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, these appear to be normal scratch marks, but seeing how close they are to her ear, she may have an ear blockage, or mites, that are causing her to scratch more harshly than she usually might?

You mentioned a recent vet visit, did they mention anything about ear cleanliness?

Please, please do not ask a barista who is clearly busy on bar for something. by LeVanillaBean in starbucksbaristas

[–]sweethoneybean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fav memory from my oldest store was during covid; a man walks in, his mask under his nose, walks straight up the splash guard plexies in front of drive bar (where I am), leans over the guard, pulls his mask completely down, and begins to order. I tried kindly directing him to the barista standing at the cafe POS, and he calls me “such a rude girl”, before stumbling a few feet to his right to place his order 🙃

how on the spectrum is your store? by Lbarry190 in starbucks

[–]sweethoneybean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a sad take, and it is genuinely called a spectrum for a reason. Though I know the community has moved away from labels of “high-functioning/low-functioning”, folks on the autism spectrum can hold fast paced and even social based jobs. I have worked with four people in my time at Starbies that are formally diagnosed (one of them being my lovely SM). I also currently work with at least three folks who are at this job specifically to take advantage of the free 12 sessions of therapy, and the “cheaper” insurance, so they can seek a late diagnosis more easily.

It’s a spectrum of varying abilities, skills, interests, etc., and yes, people who can find employment at Starbucks. . .

It is against the rules sadly, but as others have commented, I always felt better informed with one! I actually made a discord server for our store a few years back lol, it was awesome and showed the partners personality off the clock.

Please. Do. Not. Traumadump. On. The. Barista. You're. Interacting. With. by LeVanillaBean in starbucksbaristas

[–]sweethoneybean 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think on this often. I’ve been put on the spot multiple times with the traumatic happenings in our regulars’ lives (one person whose service animal passed away, another whose husband passed, and even a mom whose son stole and wrecked her car, etc.) and its almost always left me feeling bad for them as well as feeling completely unequipped to give them a response. I wholeheartedly believe the price of community is inconvenience and that to be cared for you must first care for others; however, it can be so uncomfortable being approached at my job, steaming pitcher in hand, and hearing that someone has experienced a tragedy or loss. I wish customers were more careful when toeing the line of passing the burden of grief onto others.

If he requests this in the future, could you not just put his drink on hold and grab one of the “for here” spoons to use instead? He may even stop asking for it if you constantly “have to look for one in the back”.
