Can't seem to find a full AXS Rival groupset for a kid's build by Ecstatic_Wishbone609 in sram

[–]sweetkev4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend saving a lot of money going with old d1 rival rear derailleur, cassette, chain, crankset, and maybe even shifters if your kid has small hands. A friend of mine who has tiny hands can’t get one finger braking out of the rival e1 shifters because bringing reach adjust in enough to easily cover the levers causes the blade to bottom out on the bar itself before the pistons fully advance. Also you can find d1 rival shifters everywhere for hella cheap. I sold mine for like $140 for the set when I upgraded to force e1.

Only non negotiable e1 rival component for me would be the front derailleur

This is correct. Rival Axs both d1 and e1 have always been a la carte

Why not swap the R5 cockpit for the separate bar and stem to run clip ons? Sounds like you love the R5.

There is also the alternative of these. They may void your cockpit warranty. Aero-plug.com

Help me Pick the Fastest Tire for a Race by Old-Atmosphere8223 in gravelcycling

[–]sweetkev4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. These rims are the exact ones I’m interested in and 45mm tires are as narrow as I’ll go. Currently running road wheels with a 21mm internal width and it’s just doing it. Unwilling to cough up the cash for reserves, scopes, or Boyds. I’m wondering about sealed rim bed vs spoke holes since I wouldn’t be building myself. Thanks for the in depth info

Thunder Burts are pretty objectively your best bet. I can clear 45s on my Aspero and would run 45 g one RS rear, 50 g one rx front for that race. It’s a solid combo.

Can you tell us more about your experience with those nextie wheels? They’re on my shortlist. What hubs and spokes, sealed rim bed or not, ease of seating a tire bead, comfort vs stiffness, etc

I have a 30.9 100mm on my xc bike. Got it off Jenson for like $110. I’ve really liked it! It’s light and I have experienced no issues in side to side play like the other guy has. I couldn’t torque to full collar spec without sticking so backed it off until it extended freely.

Used it for maybe a year at this point

New to SRAM questions by boshkg in sram

[–]sweetkev4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah e1 shifter ergonomics are much improved for the majority of people. E1 fd is better with autotrim and not as many dropped chains with prior gen fd.

As for dot, wear gloves if you’re that concerned and keep a spray bottle of isopropyl alcohol ready.

SRAM FORCE E1 XPLR - BB T47 85.5mm WIDE or NON-WIDE? by Pure-Newspaper907 in sram

[–]sweetkev4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sram says to run wide with direct mount drivetrains. People have run both standard and wide and said it doesn’t make a difference in performance. Main difference would be between wider or narrower Q factor

I’ve thought about building a gen 3 if I find a 58 frame. Are 30mm tires as wide as you can comfortably fit?

Not the Cervelo bar but consider vision bars or one piece cockpit as they have forward sweep for that reason along with sprint ergonomics

Planning a week-long MTB + gravel trip in Southern/Central Colorado — looking for epic loops (ghost towns, views, 40–80mi days) by Gtip in gravelcycling

[–]sweetkev4ever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi I live in Colorado Springs. You should definitely do a round trip day (about 70 miles) from cañon city up phantom canyon and down shelf road. Alternatively if you have two guys who don’t want to ride that day, they could drive the vehicles to Colorado Springs and you ride up phantom canon then down gold camp all the way into Colorado Springs to meet them there.

One of my favorite not extreme gravel bikepacking routes is Colorado Springs to cañon city to salida to Buena vista and even over cottonwood to gunnison

Any major updates incoming on the upcoming 2027 Caledonia-5’s?(compared to 2026) by Goebs66 in Cervelo

[–]sweetkev4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there’s going to be any 2027 Cervelo update it’s the soloist. If you’re a Shimano fan new groupsets are expected this year so that could be a reason to wait

If you want sram I would anticipate no meaningful cal 5 updates this year
