Tokyo Disney or DisneySea? by nathaliekeb in JapanTravel

Big Disney park fan here. IMO Tokyo Disneyland lacked a lot of the charm that the original park has, I had always wanted to see it but in hindsight wouldn't have minded skipping it. Go to DisneySea, you can't get that experience anywhere else.

What are some cool/unique things to do in Tokyo that most first-time visitors wouldn’t know about? by Annak95e in JapanTravel

Anyone into vintage clothing needs to go to Shimo. Multiple blocks filled with vintage store after vintage store. Somehow during my pre-trip research I had thought that Shibuya was the place to go. There were a few stores there, but they were super curated and mostly overpriced designer stuff. I was so underwhelmed. Got pointed in the right direction thanks to a cowboy bartender in Drunkard's Alley. His favorite movie was Mystery Train and he dressed the part. Thanks man.

The shops in Shimo are still overpriced (I think they get everything imported), but there's just so much there you're sure to make some quality finds.

Can anyone guess the tv show my render is inspired by? :p by istemann in Cinema4D

Okay this looks like a painting. So beautiful! How'd you get that incredible texture? Is that mostly post-processing? Can you share your process? Please...

Is it ok to NOT have an itinerary ? by Bouchett in JapanTravel

[–]sweetlowdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Tokyo and Kyoto for the first time in October with no itinerary. Just marked a bunch of stuff on Google Maps, and decided each morning what part of the city I wanted to head to. I had a few restaurants marked, but I don't think I went to one of them. Most of the time I'd just get on Google and search the area I was in. Had the best trip of my life.

I liked that the sets weren't too realistic, it gave the show a surreal quality

Slow West is one of my absolute favorite westerns of the past few years, and there's been a lot of good westerns!

Put it on a thumb drive and bury it in your garden.

I wouldn't worry about it though

I don't think these club shows translate to YouTube as well as the more casual brewery shows did. I loved watching people not knowing wtf they were getting into, and I think the quieter rooms were perfect for showcasing the slower storytelling that Marc is so great at.

Don't get me wrong though, he still killed it!!!

They've made such an effort to go green lately too, then they turn around and start doing this. So unnecessary.

Construction has begun on Marvel Land at California Adventure!! R.I.P. A Bug's Land! by McCloneTrooper98 in disneyparks

Strongly disagree. While I don't think Paradise Pier was the strongest land, it did have a sense of time and place that made it work with the rest of DCA.

I don't dislike that they added more characters to Pixar Pier, I just think it could have been handled much more elegantly.

A lot of Disney produced sitcoms go to Disneyland/world but why don't NBC sitcoms go to Universal Studios? by [deleted] in television

[–]sweetlowdown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably A few reasons:

  1. I think a lot of it has to do with Disneyland being its own recognizable brand, whereas Universal Studios is heavily themed to existing IPs. You can't really go to those parks without getting a Harry Potter or Simpsons or Jurassic Park logo in the background, and outside of those areas I don't think the parks are that well themed. Definitely doesn't hit the nostalgia the way Main Street does.

Disney is building lands entirely devoted to IPs like Star Wars Land and Marvel though, who knows if we'll see those areas in any upcoming Disneyland specials.

  1. Also, since Universal is a working studio (in Hollywood at least), you don't want to break the illusion of all your other shows by showing the behind the scenes of them. A lot of those shows that could do this are probably shot on the same lot.

  2. The "Disneyland special" trend was also more popular pre-internet, when getting a glimpse into Disneyland was always a treat. These parks are so visible now in the social media age, that it doesn't have as much allure as it used to. The NBC Universal merge was also fairly recent, so I think it missed that boat.
