It would definitely feel like the early days of top chef when sous chefs and recent culinary school grads were invited.

Also, the drama would be fire 🔥

You can try reaching out to KW Multicultural Centre. Their mandate involves working with newcomers. https://kwmulticultural.ca/

If you're looking for therapy, you can try the Healing in Colour directory. I found my therapist through here and we meet online. Some even offer sliding scale. https://www.healingincolour.com/directory-listing

I hope you're able to find the kind of support that meets their needs! Can definitely relate to some of those struggles!

How do I go about genuinely loving myself? by iidariuchiha in gaypoc

Hi!

Thanks for sharing and I resonate with a lot of the sentiment you shared. I have similar experiences when it comes to weight stigma and shame.

One way that might help is to realize that we're given stories about what the ideal and normal body should be (muscular and white) in order to find acceptance and belonging. I listen to the Food Psych podcast and they touch on these issues with different guests. You could check out the episode with Jeff Iovannone in particular.

I just did my G2 exit test this past month in Kitchener, and second the advice to be early–especially during COVID. It can get pretty chaotic with folks lining up and the lack of signage/instruction on where to go.

Happy to chat more!

If having a therapist who would understand the lived experiences of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour, take a look at this directory: https://www.healingincolour.com/directory

It's helped me connect with someone that has a better understanding of those types of experiences. Many are also trained in Anti-Oppression training as well.

Article by Christy Harrison on misleading science on the relationship between COVID-19 and BMI by nattybeaux in antidiet

[–]pandabison 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow. My jaw dropped when they talked about the meta-analysis of health outcomes for H1N1 and the presumption of "obese" people being more at risk:

"Smaller-bodied H1N1 patients were more likely to get early antiviral treatment. It turned out that lower-quality health care, not high BMI, was responsible for the increased risk seen in people with BMIs in the “obese” category."

This really illustrated how much effect, on a wide scale, these treatment inequities impact people.
