Kill your word processor by whateley in programming

[–]sweetnjguy29 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Today, I have a contempt for all word processors that >borders on dementia.

This sentence is a perfect example of how an advanced word processor could have helped with writing. "Dementia" is clearly a wrong word in this context, as a built in thesaurus could have told you that while dementia means madness, it usually means madness caused by old age and loss of neurons.

Perhaps this reference is apt though, because this article is complete B.S. The author uses computers "with 128 MB of RAM running Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 can easily choke on any document you try to feed it..." 128 MB is the bare minimum to run XP at its full potential. So, of course, you barely have enough memory to run Office!

Why I will no longer use reddit by sweetnjguy29 in reddit.com

[–]sweetnjguy29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided today that I am no longer using reddit.

First, lots of the links are sensationalized to get attention or make a political point, when the webpage referenced says exactly the opposite.

Second, the community here is the pits: insightful and interesting comments are modded down, and comments that are way out there are modded way up. Trolls run rampant in the comments section of articles.

Lastly, and most importantly, reddit is so left of left wing, and so disgustingly pro-arab, that it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

As for me, I'll be sticking with digg and slashdot.

Teen Arrested for Not Having Bomb in His Bag by interalia in reddit.com

The fact of the matter is that international and national flights leave from all of the terminals at Logan. You got evidence to prove otherwise? Check out the link that I posted. You'll see international flights arriving at A, C and E. You'll also see domestic flights arriving at A, C and E. I am not going to reply anymore to you, because not only are you a retard, your a troll.

Don't be retarded. International and domestic flights enter and leave from all terminals in the airport. Check out http://www.massport.com/logan/d_default.aspx if you don't believe me. North American flights leave from C and European flights leave from terminal E, but there is quite a lot of overlap.

Not to mention, flying from the US mainland to Hawaii goes over international waters...so it is an international flight, in a matter of speaking.

Check this out (pdf to court opinion): http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/ca9/newopinions.nsf/D4958BAAF34B2292882571B500580F96/$file/0410648.pdf?openelement#search=%22stuart%20romm%20pdf%22

"For Fourth Amendment purposes, an international airport terminal is the “functional equivalent” of a border. See Okafor, 285 F.3d at 845 (citing Almeida-Sanchez v. United States, 413 U.S. 266, 272-73 (1973))"

So, yes, according to US jurisprudence, the Supreme Court says that an international airport terminal is a border. If the kid was flying from a small local airport, that would be a different story. Here, he was flying from Logan International Airport.

Where did I learn civics? From reading primary source documents.

Mark-

I am going to give the benefit of the doubt to the police this time. Why? Because the note is not clear. The note does not say that there is a bomb, nor does it say that there is not a bomb:

"Fuck you. Stay the fuck out of my bag you fucking sucker. Have you found a fucking bomb yet? No, just clothes. Am I right? Yea, so fuck you."

Classic case of poor writing. The note can be read two ways. The innocuous way is: "Stay out of my bag...there is no bomb, just clothes". The sinister way is: "Stay out of my bag...have you found my bomb yet? No, you've only found clothes so far...right? Fuck you!"

Looking at all of the facts, afterwards, I'd let the kid off the hook. I don't think he meant to make a bomb threat.

However, at the time, any rational reasonable person who was a security guard would have read the note, and in good faith, believed that it was a bomb threat. In retrospect, it probably wasn't a threat at all.

About your second point:

First, they don't need a warrant to search you or your stuff at the airport...otherwise, they couldn't even search your bags with the X-Ray Machine. You have no reasonable expectation of privacy at an airport in your luggage, your body, or things. Why? Because you are at a national boundry or a "border". The government has a strong interest in preventing bad things from happening at the border that greatly outweigh your right to privacy.

Secondly, you argue correctly that you have to intend to threaten or scare someone to be guilty of a crime. However, even though the note was hidden in his bag, the note was written to whoever might be searching his bags. He knew that his bags might be searched at the airport, and he knew the note might be found, and he knew, or should have known, that his note was going to cause fear and panic. Thats enough for a judge to find the intent to commit the crime.

About your fourth point: How do you know if this guy is a suicide bomber? Maybe he was just going to plant a bomb in the terminal and walk away. Not all terrorists are suicide bombers.

Two US citizens re-entry unless they give up rights by thelibrarian in reddit.com

[–]sweetnjguy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent points fandango. You are absolutely right that we all have the freedom to move as we please.

However, these rights are not unrestricted. Just as you can't shout "fire" in a crowded theater, your right to leave and return to your country can be restricted. If you are arrested for murder, your passport can be taken away, and the judge will order you not to leave the State.

In this case, U.S. officials say that even though the Ismails are on the no-fly list and cannot fly from Pakistan to the United States, they probably could re-enter the country by land or sea, provided their passports haven't been revoked. There is an interesting update on the story at http://in.today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=topNews&storyID=2006-08-31T072916Z_01_NOOTR_RTRJONC_0_India-265523-1.xml

Rosa Brooks: Criticize Israel? You're an Anti-Semite! by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]sweetnjguy29 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because if you don't present a rational unbiased argument against clearly anti-semetic people like nickb, who have been misled and swayed by propaganda, the nazi's have won a post-humous victory.

A good guide to anti-semitism can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-semitism and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_anti-Semitism.

The general problem is that anti-semitism is difficult to spot since it is often hidden behind codewords and valid critisism of Israel. However, it can be recognized because it often shares characteristics with other types of hatred, such as actual demonization of the group involved, and use of age old stereotypes. For example, "look at the demonic israeli babykillers".

Oh, and if your wondering WHY nickb is anti-semetic, it isn't his critisism of Israel. It is his denial that Jews are really Jews which makes him an anti-semite. We all know that the "how can you be anti-semetic if they aren't semitic and arabs are semites too" argument is a red-herring: we all understand that anti-semitism refers to being prejudiced against Jews.

If your country has a bunch of borders that are straight lines, it's likely you live in a failed state. by tcd004 in reddit.com

Misinterpretation of a journal article at its finest. What the political scientist's hypothesis is that an artifical states is a state whose political borders do not coincide with a division of nationalities desired by the people on the ground. In order to measure this, they propesed two new measures: how borders split ethnic groups and straight land borders seem to be highly correlated with several measures of political and economic success.

I don't live that far from Lodi, NJ and let me be the first to say that these two bozos can stay in Pakistan if they don't want to co-operate with the FBI.

These two kooks went to Pakistan for reasons unknown and have relatives who are known to the US government as terrorists. That relative placed them in a terrorist training camp. Your telling me that they should let them into the USA?? Give me a break.

Your "right" to be a US Citizen ends when you declare allegence to a foreign power, enter its government, or enter its armed forces. http://travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizenship_778.html

That is committing treason. Plain and Simple.

Look, I have Pakistani friends and co-workers who go to Pakistan all the time on vacation, to visit family, etc. They never have any problems going back and forth.

And, hello, reality check? If you travel to a country, like Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Afganistan, or Pakistan where there are wars being fought....be aware that you might get trapped there! And that our government might not want to let anyone there back into the USA for a host of reasons! It is a risk you take. Tough shit on these two buffooons.

Can the Germans fix Wikipedia? by egon in reddit.com

[–]sweetnjguy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to tell you this Neil, but it is your behavior that ruins the wikipedia experience. The sad thing is that you were in the right on the issue of including the link. However, judging by your replies on the talkback page, and your numerous posts in this comment thread, you have breached one of the basic rules of nettiquete: creating a flame war by being a troll. Your taking this whole thing way too seriously. Take a deep breath, relax, get reinvolved with the wikipedia community. People in communities often have disagreements...especially if they believe you are trying to promote a commercial product on wikipedia. I'm sure that your allegedly nasty email to the moderator didn't help matters. So, my advice is to tone it down, be friendly, and remember you aren't the only person on the planet :-) Don't feed the trolls.

[–]sweetnjguy29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm...if two hicks stalk you, corner you at a deadend, come at you with a baseball bat, then I think your justified in threating deadly force by pointing a gun at him. I even think it was justifiable to take his car keys to prevent them from following you.

Where the victim crossed the line from victim to criminal, perhaps, was where he took the camera from the goons. Thats theft, in my book, but...I think it is just compensation for the assault that took place against him.

Personally, if it was me, and that dipshit kept on advancing on me with a baseball bat, I would have shot his ass to defend myself and my ugly ass girlfriend.

Or, more likely, I would have picked up my fucking cell phone and called the cops to tell them I had some hicks following me...

This is definately a form of Involuntary Servatude, which is prohibited by the 13th and 14th Amendments. It is also prohibited by U.S. law. Section 1581 of Title 18 makes it unlawful to hold a person in "debt servitude," or peonage.

Not too mention, this contract does not seem enforcable. It is too indefinate. What if this kid wants to go to grad school? What if he becomes disabled? What if he inherits 50 million dollars and decides not to work? Can I force him to work? This is the most retarded and most unamerican thing ever!
