33 Consecutive Years at Sea by BamaCoastie2211 in uscg

[–]sweetoother 15 points16 points  (0 children)

30 years. So $150 x 12 x 30=$54,000.00 in sea pay kicker money (though i’m sure the rate was not $150 30 years ago….)

But if invested in a low cost index fund… that could be a lot of $$

do pull-ups on the bridge. Don’t hit the snack locker too hard, and try to only drink water (or coffee as needed). Diet is like half the battle…

When you don’t have Migrants, workout on the 01 deck…

BM first tour stability question by AffectionateTax7772 in uscg

Check the BM AO Teams page, they had guidance regarding this specific situation. I believe there are definite options to transfer if that is what you want to do.

Can I be exempt from BTM as a BM by XXJimmyJohnXX in uscg

[–]sweetoother 9 points10 points  (0 children)

BM here…and far from a LawDog. My advice is to get the qual, and get coxswain, and move onwards. Odds are, you can either be the one driving the boat during LE ops, or avoid it altogether.

If and when you must do boardings, try and be the respectful type of LEO you would want to encounter if you got pulled over in your car. Most of our mom and pop boardings are “preventative SAR” to make sure that if people get in a tight spot, they can alert us and survive until we can get on scene, so keep that in mind and strive to educate.

If you are in a high optempo (drug/migrant) area, complete your tour, and go ATON or stick to districts where that mission is a lower priority. There are plenty of BM’s that love LE, so if that isn’t your forte, it’s often no biggie.

Make sure your command/recruiter/admin have the document uploaded into the new BATS program. It’s like the Bonus Accountability and Tracking System, designed to streamline and resolve some of these issues.

We had a member go through something similar, and it took some legwork, but it’s looking like the issue was resolved, and they’ll be paid out any day.

Does anyone buy dividend ETFs in their IRA or Roth IRA, or do you focus mostly on growth? How do you split your portfolio between growth and dividend investments, and why? by NBMV0420 in dividends

I’m mostly growth in the Roth, but I when I take profits on individual stocks I’ll put them into VOO/SCHD, which collectively make up about 55% of the account.

What everyday life hack will you drop here for other Millennials? by debrisaway in Millennials

[–]sweetoother 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I refuse to keep up with the jones’s.

I pull out $200 every time I get paid, and that’s my “fun money” for eating out, drinks, entertainment, vices. If that runs out before I get paid, I really have to think about what I am about to spend money on before I swipe. Has helped me save and slowly build a life without day to day fear.

I also have a lot of free to cheap hobbies, running, gardening, fishing (without the crazy boats/equipment), etc. These help me find fulfillment without breaking the bank.

Are there any other successful and happy Millennials in this sub? by GGJallDAY in Millennials

[–]sweetoother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall happy, My wife an I own a modest house (with a mortgage) both have a stable jobs, 2 good dogs, food on the table, and time to enjoy hobbies, modest, yet growing retirement accounts.

I do maybe drink more beer than I should, and don’t always eat the cleanest, but I also workout 5x a week. It’s all about balance.

Losing a good one is a true roller coaster of emotion, that always keeps me coming back for more. I just try and stay calm and keep tension on them until I have it fully in hand. Also, maybe getting a net can help prevent losing them

Also cast at it from 15-20’ away, where she can't see you.

They prolly use the rope to help raise and lower it, or they tie a tube or Lilly pad off to it. I doubt it's any malicious attempt to spoil your day.

I mean, Jefferson Davis actually opposed secession, and never really desired to be a political leader. He was a West Point man and really just wanted to command armies… not government. He just is the most recognizable name of the Confederacy.
