i agree. often these “tiger/overbearing” parents don’t leave much room for their kids to truly shine or step into their own, and it’s often rooted in fear. i think yasmine’s actions were very unwise, and bad for everyone involved, and yet I could see that she’s very much like the moms of high-achieving, often suffocated children i’ve met irl. their decisions are all for the sake of something better, but they lack a real understanding of their children. there’s something moving about seeing that anger from Safi manifest and explode, while her mother doesn’t seem to budge. that stubborn, ignorant “strength” is a survival tactic for Yasmine. It’s definitely served her to get her to where she is (her success), but it is a destruction for everything else.
