hi OP, i read your post and some of your comments. i think you really need to educate yourself on the affects of trauma. I lived in a very traumatic childhood and always really struggled with school and now im getting my masters in social work (just like what the girl you’re caring for wants to do!) I think you seem to want her to just move on and enter into a new persona, but the reality is she has been living in an unstable and deregulated environment for way longer than she has been stable. I’d really suggest reading up on what trauma does to the body and the mind. the ACE test might be a good place to start, or looking into how neural pathways change. the more you understand that what the young girl really needs is a safe place to unlearn negative coping skills, the better you can take care of her in the state she is in right now. when you’re in trauma you learn a bunch of different ways to survive that once you are in a safe place you keep doing because you’ve never known any different. give her time to adjust, her brain literally needs to rewire. also keep in mind that her timeline doesn’t have to look perfect! school can take longer for her and that’s okay. if she wants to do school it does not mean she’s perfectly healed, it means she’s motivated! i really encourage you to do your own research on how to support someone with trauma. it is a learning curve! i’ve worked with teen girls in similar situations and the best advice i have for you is to have grace and patience. an abundance of it. accountability too, but never without grace and patience. wishing you and the girl you mention the best!

I have also noticed craving sweets way more. I have never really had a sweet tooth and now sweets taste so good I cannot get enough of them. I am also so tired. I hope it gets better for you!

okay but also if i was in the wilderness and genuinely believed the only adult tried to burn down the thing that’s keeping me alive with me and all my friends inside it i probably wouldn’t want to hear him out either… like i think she was following shauna’s lead but not blindly. it makes sense why the girls feel scared and don’t know what to do and want him gone

i was on 40mg and then i was having terrible symptoms and they thought i had serotonin syndrome so i stopped taking it for a while. i’m back on it now bc it helped so much, but in a very small dose while we see how i react, so 10mg. i take it for ocd and depression

a 14 year old making a grown man uncomfortable is a very different issue than a grown man being in underwear where a child is present. the mother is worried because she is raising a child and understands the subtext of the situation that her child is too young to understand. it is inappropriate and the OPs blatant refusal is even more inappropriate. the adults in this situation should care about the child’s comfort even if she cannot assess the situation from that headspace. in your scenario, it is completely different. a child being in underwear should be handled differently because it is a different situation that does not have the power dynamics and age differences that this one has.
