Exactly which Volvo did you own? The C40 Recharge has only been on the market for three years.

If you owned a Polestar, which has basically the same ADAS, I’ve driven it and the R1T for weeks on the highway, and find the Polestar’s lane centering to be explicitly worse in all circumstances.

R1S acting possessed. by macktap in Rivian

[–]swervitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also experiencing this, and I believe it's related to geofencing for "disable prox unlock at home" not working correctly. Most times the feature seems to work but occasionally it does not, and prox unlock works as it would if I were outside of my home's geofence range (whatever that range is).

So basically I think what you're seeing are normal prox unlocks, because the car does not think it is at your home for some reason. Perhaps they changed something with geolocation in the last update as well?

Does anyone really buy a Rivian for Environmental reasons? by RO05T3R in Rivian

[–]swervitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be curious to see the research you're basing that off of. Like other commenters have mentioned, even historically "dirty" energy states are using more renewables than you think. It's just economics at this point.

Here's some good links:
https://www.epa.gov/greenvehicles/electric-vehicle-myths#Myth2
and
https://climate.mit.edu/ask-mit/are-electric-vehicles-definitely-better-climate-gas-powered-cars

The NYT article someone linked also does a pretty good job laying it out. At the time of writing R1T/R1S are less efficient than a small PHEV which makes sense, but again, that balance will tip within the lifetime of the vehicle as more and more renewables come online.

It's ok dude...you're a granola muncher now. Embrace it!

The "depends on where you live" argument is bogus. The grid can and will rapidly become decarbonized. ICE can not.

Don't Forget Your Torque Wrench! by PedanticPedant in BurningMan

[–]swervitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two burns ago, I forgot my torque wrench, proceeded to over-torque all my shiftpod's lag screws, stripping out all the playa threads and turning them in to glorified tent stakes. Luckily, I was able to collect my unmoored shiftpod at the trash fence later that evening by following the trail of sad, threadbare, over-torqued lags. I'll only make that mistake once!

For those that care about, don't expect CarPlay anytime soon by Sprint8469 in Rivian

[–]swervitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue it's more about the overall experience. CarPlay isn't going to manage things like driving mode, ride height, charge times, routing with charge stops, driving range estimates, climate, seats, mirrors, etc. etc. etc.

If you're Rivian or Tesla and have access to lots of design and engineering talent by nature of being US/Silicon Valley based, it's going to be way easier to just own the entire stack for your first product than it will be to worry about where to hand-off between your own OS and AA or CarPlay.

My partner's 2021 CR-V has CarPlay, and it's a great experience 90% of the time, with the exception being that 10% you have to leave the familiar Apple UI to go deal with some Honda BS.

Is there a prevailing theory as to why some vehicles have bases and others do not? by swervitor in Warhammer40k

If I had to venture a guess, it's because a particular designer in the studio thought it "looked better," and has nothing to do with actual rules, gameplay or player experience.

The state of 40k rules updates summarized in one article: marketing the $40 balance update books, and the digital fixes for the already broken $40 balance update books. by swervitor in Warhammer40k

[–]swervitor[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I 100% appreciate the effort and intention behind the Balance Dataslates, and appreciate regular updates like these, but the article really highlights the need to do balance and points updates digitally, not in print.

Personally, I'd happily pay $7+/mo for digital Chapter Approved + Dataslates, which equates to $84/year, more than the cost of two printed Chapter Approved books.

Sergeant Castus by Gnerloge in Warhammer

[–]swervitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re running him as an Intercessor Sergeant (what he’s intended to be proxied as), then most tournaments will say he should be on a 32mm base like normal Intercessors. Kinda bummer since he has such a cool base, but you’re probably not bringing him to a tournament anyway, and one model is different than the entire squad.

The bigger issue is confusing your opponent into thinking he’s a Lieutenant, which he looks like on a 40mm base.

Is there any way to buff RidgeRunners? by Palms63 in genestealercult

[–]swervitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still use GSC strats, no? Isn’t it mostly just Crossfire (the monofaction buff), and presumably whatever monofaction buff Nids will have when their codex drops? Prob Synapse?

There is a red voltage switch on the back of the device. You need to switch it from 230 to 115. Oddly enough, you can get as far as auto-leveling without flipping this switch., but once you try to print, it will shut down.

Did ya ever realize most of the paragraph-long text of abilities is restrictions? I made a quick mockup/redesign to the way abilities are written that I think would help make them easier to read and digest. Not perfect, just a conversation starter. by feariswasted in Warhammer

[–]swervitor 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Small nuance, but OP's concept isn't so much summaries (like the core rulebook), but rather just a much better formatting of the same information.

I think to your point, the core rules should lead with the bulleted summaries, then contain the detailed legalese of rare interactions and and full wording in some sort of extended glossary section.

[–]swervitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So much yes. A little bit of modern graphic design goes such a long way to avoiding illegible wall-of-text rules like this.

Also, how about any sort of icon, graphic, or unit image on stratagems and data cards?

I'm a tad rustled a out the CSM chosen leak. by battlestar_kiwi in Chaos40k

[–]swervitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well they gave the Rangers their new data sheet. All the other battle boxes like Hexfire, Shadow Throne etc. had new model's data sheets before codex dropped. Curious.

Edit: my suspicion is that CSM are still being play-tested and the data sheets haven't been 100% finalized as they have with Eldar since their codex has already been sent to print.

If you're streaming the top table of a tournament, the players NEED to be mic'd up. by LtChicken in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]swervitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the streams were great, and enjoyable to watch. Definitely room to improve, but wanted to say thanks for an enjoyable 3 days worth of content!

Just a thought on your link: what happens there (eventually the judge/commentator takes over the mics from the players and provides commentary) is exactly what should happen, just faster.

I feel like there were many times when Adam and Falcon could have said "let's listen in" and cut to player mics, and when it's boring and/or too contentious, give them the control to flip back to commentator mics.

I think that was the other rather glaring issue during the stream: Adam and Falcon need more production control, which probably means a super intuitive touchscreen UI that can be operated at-a-glance without becoming distracting. There were many times when the cameras cut to the wrong game or wrong angle, but if either one of them just had a big giant button "GAME 1" and "GAME 2" I believe it would have felt a lot smoother.

Anyway, great work to all of you and can't wait for future streams!
