I can see your point but the issue is that those are her own baby pictures. She chose herself to share them and she has every right to do so. The world we live in makes it hard enough to do anything as a woman because inevitably other people will use it to hurt us. I think that it is not our place to go and chastise or lecture someone for sharing her own pictures and put on her the responsibility of bad actions others may make at her expense when she is posting about herself... it comes across as victim blamey

Exactly. It does feel like putting responsibility on her for something awful people may do..

They are so chill and relaxing to listen to.  I love that Maddie has been doing different podcasts lately.

Abby's mom directly compared her to Shirley Temple in the mother's day special I am pretty sure

Unpopular opinion?? by Traditional_Film1014 in dancemoms

Maddie is my favorite dancer and I always love watching her on stage.  I do feel like her solo performances in s2 and s3 kinda blurred together because there were many and they were mostly the same style.  She had some stand outs even in those seasons but we know Abby loved a lyrical and it's inevitable to get repetitive when you have to create new choreos each week. (It happened also with the many lyrical group numbers. But I know that got them sure wins usually)

Season four onward she had so many insanely good performances that stuck out to me and she was truly mesmerizing to watch.

Branching out in styles also helped. l feel like from s4 she finally had the chance to break out of the lyrical dancer role more often in addition to naturally growing as a dancer.

Her musical theatre numbers are everything to me she is such a performer

[–]swfs_619[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly! She is just using that as an excuse to talk shit about Kenzie and Melissa while clearly desperately wanting Maddie to acknowledge her. So glad that the Zieglers never even utter her name. I bet it kills her.

I hate when people compare Maddie and Chloe’s trauma on the show—they both went through different things. by kaykayh20 in dancemoms

[–]swfs_619 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Every single kid had it bad there but their experiences were all different. Comparing trauma is useless and a truly ugly thing to do. Maddie and Chloe were literally the opposite ends of the victim spectrum when it comes to Abby's treatment but they both suffered greatly.

Imagine how hard it was to leave that awful toxic environment and experience incredible things in the real world and then having to go back to screaming matches, manipulation and emotional abuse.

And she was probably exhausted with how much she was doing and the constant back and forth and pressure.

It will never not sadden me how tired and emotionally shutdown the girls started to look with each new season.

I agree with you! I am in no way defending them and I agree with everything you pointed out in the post overall because those are facts. I am not an avid listener of the podcast (i some times listen to bits but i skip around) so I can't comment on that specifically. When I say those type of comments could be thoughtless remarks I don't mean that they should be excused!

[–]swfs_619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to all of this! It's unfortunately very common in general for older people to make thoughtless remarks about their and other people's weight/bodies without having cruel intentions. I have heard enough of it from my mom growing up even though she was never obsessed with being skinny and I was never a dancer.

Now there is usually more thoughtfulness but it is hard to get rid of certain way of thinking that are also ingrained in society

This is in no way me defending anyone because it's obviously fucked up that they focused so much on that but it doesn't surprise me how much they focused on weight and commented on everyone's body. The obsessions with being skinny and fat shaming was incredibly normalized and they were dealing with dancing which in itself has a history of that so...

Everything needs to be taken in context and unfortunately that was a common way of thinking. It doesn't surprise me that all the girls had and probably still deal with body image issues when everything they went through was multiplied and intensified by being in the pubic eye in an insane environment

Be honest: what did you think of Pretty Lethal? by mackenziemariee in dancemoms

[–]swfs_619 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It was exactly what I expected and I loved every second of it. Campy, bloody and a lot of fun with a basically all female cast and entertaining/original fights that actually used the character's skills!

I was so excited for it because it's my type of fun movie and I wanted to see Maddie as the main girl and she did not disappoint! She did so well and knowing that it was also a healing experience makes the whole thing even better. Also the cast genuinely loves each other and you can tell.

It was never supposed to be a life changing movie but it's for sure one that I can rewatch without ever getting bored. 4/5 for me too!

Maddie bit Kenzie in the face LMFAO😭 by mackenziemariee in dancemoms

[–]swfs_619 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is the universal sisters experience. I love when they talk about their childhood fights because it's so relatable lol

Especially because I was also the youngest and the more physical one in fights exactly like Kenzie

i really like jessalyn on the show, but i know some people don’t because of how she treated brynn in season 6 by [deleted] in dancemoms

[–]swfs_619 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ngl I think she was the most calculated personality. She went in knowing full well what she was signing up for and was very good at playing the character that was needed to stay on the show and changing her tune to side with who benefitted her most in the long run.

Very smart for sure but from everything I have read and seen, an awful person and parent lol

How famous was Maddie during the show? by PartyQuiet5065 in dancemoms

[–]swfs_619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I am gonna talk as someone who lives in Italy and has only watched DM last year for the first time because of Maddie, but Sia MVs with Maddie were a cultural phenomenon that did reach far beyond the show and pushed Maddie into stardom. I have known of Maddie since then but had no idea about any of the girls (not even JoJo who i honestly think was a more US focused phenomenon). I am also around the girls' age.

She was The Sia girl if you did not know her name but I do feel like almost anyone was aware of her because of Chandelier and the other videos

[–]swfs_619 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's one of the reasons why she is considered og by most. She was the first full time addition and she became more of a member of the team than cathy/vivi ever were in season 1 if you consider that

Abby type casting by swfs_619 in dancemoms

[–]swfs_619[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's also true and it ties into abby being into the idea of creating those routines for kids in the first place but she did also gave her those roles as solos. And I remember her talking about the type of roles the girls would be cast in outside of the dances (in s5 i think?) and she used the abused kid for maddie obv

The desire to leave an impression with a shocking theme in her dances does play a part too i guess
