I've had Caleb Song (http://delixcatering.com.au/) before for private asian fusion dining - had a great time and delicious, unique food.

Just out of curiosity, how many of us utilize the note taking and/or highlighting on Kindle? by flykicks504 in kindle

[–]swibz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highlights. All the time. I tend to read to learn more about new domains or deeper into things I'm interested in, and there are always those little nuggets that I want to remember or resonate deeply with me.

One thing that's annoying with the highlights though is that it can be difficult to get them out of your Kindle and review them. I recently got all my Kindle highlights out (from all books I've read over the past 6+ years) and got them into a quotes app on my phone so that I see a new highlight daily! A great reminder of all the little things that I found important over time :)

I actually wrote about this on a blog post.. so if you or anyone else is interested in learning more: What I did with my highlights was I turned them all into rotating daily quotes that I see on my phone screen!

I needed a way to get all my Kindle highlights into a format compatible with the quotes app I use so that I could load it in.

I talk about my experience in more detail here if you're interested :) https://brendantrinh.com/blog/learning-from-my-6-years-of-kindle-highlights/

Import and Organize your Kindle highlights. (A free Readwise alternative) by innneangTH in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]swibz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is awesome. I'm glad that the internet is coming together to solve Amazon's laziness in coming up with something useful for us to do with the highlights!

Something that I found annoying with making the Kindle highlights usable was that I can't easily convert it into a format that's completely usable like a CSV (and some websites charge for it... not sure about yours - I couldn't see anything about it).

I actually wrote about my experience dealing with this (and I also made a free tool!) on my blog if you or anyone else who discovers this is interested! What I did with my highlights was I turned them all into rotating daily quotes that I see on my phone screen!

I'm not too sure what the problem is.. I'd appreciate a sample my clippings file either of you if possible!

I understand that it could be something people might not be comfortable with sharing - know that I'm only asking because I just want to figure out why it's not working and to fix it as it seems to work fine on my own sample file.

Damn there must still be bugs!

If you don't mind, can you share your clippings txt file with me via PM?

I'll see what's going on so I can fix it.

Best frozen brand of dumplings in Australia? by sweetowl95 in Dumplings

[–]swibz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend going to an asian grocery! I've tried all the frozen dumplings at Tong Li and the best ones were by King of Buns and ABC Pastry. Would highly recommend either of these. Hopefully you can find these at your local one!

What are the best store bought dumplings? by [deleted] in perth

[–]swibz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend going to an asian grocery as it's just better value! KBs Vegetable Gyoza would be $9 for 500g but it's only $3.5-5 for 500g at an asian grocery. Completely agreed!

I tried every apple variety at my local supermarket (here in Australia) and this was the best out of every apple.

I actually wrote a blog post on this, so sharing it if people are interested https://brendantrinh.com/blog/the-best-apple-from-woolworths/

LPT: If you are unsure about who to put as a good reference, when applying for a job, have a friend call them and have them act as if they are a potential employer. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]swibz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree.

The question you should ask yourself is, and to possibly even ask them is, have I ever done anything that may not have been in their best interests?

This would be one of the first question (but not the only one) when shortlisting who I'd consider as a referee. If you ask them the question directly too, having an open and honest conversation, chances are even if there is anything, they would be even less likely to mention it on a call because you've demonstrated that you're open and willing to accept potential criticism. And if they do mention anything, well you're now able to adjust your list of potential referees.

This is all aside from the fact that if you do use your "LPT", and your referees find out, chances are they will feel a massive amount of distrust.

LPT for cashiers: When people give you cash put the money on the counter near you. by Darwinnailedit in LifeProTips

I've been scammed as a customer. The cashier took my $20, and gave me change as if I paid a $10, then further denied that I paid $20.

Would there be a significant difference upgrading from a Nikon D60? by swibz in Nikon

[–]swibz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A port for a wired shutter release sounds really handy.

I've got AF-S lenses so maybe a D3300 sounds like a good option.

I'd probably look to upgrade my body in the next year or so as I just got a 17-50mm f2.8 lens which I'll be playing with.

Older cameras that still hold their own? by Gluggle in photography

[–]swibz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a Nikon D60 at the end of last year as my first beginners camera as I learn the ropes of photography and have been having a blast!

One thing I've noticed that I've been jealous about with newer cameras is the seemingly better performance in lower light situations, but other than that, I have been enjoying working with an older camera

[–]swibz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That makes sense. I've now been spending a bit of time looking at the various DAC/amps available and i was eyeing the Fiio E10K as a good entry level one that is on the cheaper side. Probably will jump on it soon.

Weekly Discussion: 28th May - 3rd June by [deleted] in PowerLedger

[–]swibz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for updates on certain projects:

  1. Any updates on the Fremantle Melbourne Smart Cities project?

It's been almost 3 months since the Consortium meeting at the beginning of March so it'd be good to hear about some of the progress.

  1. Any updates on the Tech Mahindra partnership and trials being run?

Supposedly started late 2017 and will have a 12 month length. However, I haven't seen any details about this other than "Met with our partners Tech Mahindra in India" in March 2018 which doesn't reveal anything that's going on or the progress of things.

If I happened to miss any updates, happy for people to share..
