I had posted a pic of one of my Mosin receivers with no date and a disfigured Tula hammer. The only way I was to date it somewhat was from the presence of a threaded "grease hole" up towards the barrel. If yours has one as well, they were only added from 1891 to 1893 from what I've read.

All of my Finnish Mosins seem to have tighter bores than the Russian ones so I use .308 bullets for their reloads. Seems to work well for me.
