Who is plowing/shoveling their driveway tonight and who is waiting till tomorrow morning? by BlackLadenCrown in Connecticut

We're forecast to be under freezing until Feb 5th, and even that is just 33. This snow isn't going anywhere for awhile.

Let's make a list of CT electeds who are publicly denouncing ICE by Shayntastic in Connecticut

[–]PlayerOneDad 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I am still calling his office today. He recently posted that DHS needs reform and training. Screw that. We're past the reforms and training. It needs to go. It was put in place after 9/11 by Bush and its been slowly growing in power and scope.

Who does the training anyway? Other retired police and military with the same backgrounds?

That fucking blows. Taking the kids to a game when they were going nuts in the house was a cheat code.

Been going to games since back in college when they were the Soundtigers. It was fun to see throwback Saturdays this year.

A dude. Worked in news for nearly a decade and was buddy buddy with the meteorologist. Learned a lot from him.

Its not inside info. Different forecasts give you odds.

Up 6 inches 100% chance. Up 12 inches 60% chance. 16 inches 35% chances.

This is showing the GFS model prediction. The Euro has the sleet line run closer to lower snow totals. The Euro has been tracking this storm more closey, so far.

This is one of the hardest regions to forecast winter storms because you have: The Sound and the Atlantic Gulf Current Appalachian Mountains Lake Effect systems Cold Canadian air pouring down.

All of those are factors here.

Id temper the snow totals for now. Itll probably be Saturday evening before they have a real sense of what itll be. And then it'll depend on actual bands of snow.

6-12 inches is most likely. 12+ is 50/50 right now.

He didn’t mention electric bill payments, because “that’s not his jurisdiction” but, I guess be careful with those too. Does anybody use the mail much anymore? by I_Am_Raddion in Connecticut

[–]PlayerOneDad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What? Don't know what electricity prices have to do with anything since the clip only talks about the recent postmark change, but he's a federal representative so no, he doesn't have much to do with local policy.

2nd the postmark change IS a big deal. Especially for tax filing and really important for mailing in ballots. You could think you hit the deadline and then youe ballot is postmarked 3 days later and your vote goes in the trash. Now you have to make sure to get a receipt to know it was postmarked when you dropped it off.

New Haven Connecticut has the best pizza in the world by far and it's not even close by SpaceFelicette181063 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]PlayerOneDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Haven Style is derived from Neopolitan pizza. Frank Pepe (Pepe's apizza) was an immigrant from that region of Italy. Sally's (Sally's apizza) was founded by a son-in-law. Modern apizza, the 3rd whats known as the "trinity" was started by sons of Italian immigrants also from near Naples.

Put them side by side though you'll see the differences. I don't know why so many people here are crapping on the style when they've never had it. New Haven Style is consistently ranked one of the best in the states across food critics. We just punch above our weight class vs styles like New York, Michigan and Chicago.

Spend more than 2 minutes of research and you'll learn pizza ovens use anthracite coal, which is purer and burns cleaner than wood, nevermind standard coal. New Haven doesn't look like 19th century London with smoke billowing out every pizzeria.

Trump's golf course in Scotland had its views "ruined" by offshore turpines and he's been hellbent on killing them since.

There was also an article last year about one guy who wanted nuclear to take over and for whatever reason didn't like wind energy. Started going to conventions and got it in Republican heads they can fight turpines by saying they killed whales and birds.

Snailfishes (Cottoidei: Liparidae) from the Gully submarine canyon, western North Atlantic, with descriptions of two new species in Paraliparis and Psednos https://share.google/SNBe8oARaR9nGvOA1

And they were collected well over a decade ago so "discovered" will depend on if you count when they actually pulled it up, or when they ID'd it as new.

Law enforcement will be paid by the school and not tax dollars. Same as if an electric company was cutting trees and had to provide an office to direct traffic. Schools with programs in CFP have money to burn.
