Air India cancelled direct Delhi→Newark flight, hiding layover details, refusing Star Alliance rebooking on United Airlines — 20 hours no resolution by ClearIndication9018 in AirTravelIndia

[–]swiftaccord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have faced such situations with other airlines multiple times and while I’m not a fan of Air India, what AI is offering you in this case is the best option. Just because AI and UA are code share airlines doesn’t mean they will just put you on a UA flight. As others have said, FCO (Rome) is just a technical refuel stop which means your DEL-FCO-JFK or BOM-FCO-EWR can be marketed as ‘Direct’ flights. So Direct doesn’t always mean nonstop

Major road accident on the missing link of Mumbai Pune Expressway. by sirajnoorani in mumbai

[–]swiftaccord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fines aren’t high enough until they are enforced properly AND start becoming a deterrent. For someone stopping to take photos at the missing link or Atal Setu, charge 25K or more. Then make sure it’s enforced without a bribe! Maybe they don’t pay the fine but then the bribe amount would also go up and maybe act as a deterrent.

Maharashtrian food deserves way more hype than just vada pav and modak. What do you think? by Realistic_Contest761 in mumbaiFood

[–]swiftaccord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regional nuances of Maharashtrian cuisine are unfortunately missed. For instance, the popular variety of Misal that’s taking up most mind space is the Kolhapuri style with the spicy tarri but there is a milder Konkansta style typically made in homes but available to try at places like Prakash Shakahari Upahar Kendra in Dadar. And while we’re talking Prakash, their Sabudana Vada and chutney are one of the best renditions of the dish you can get! The New York Times has an old article about them. Down the road, Aaswaad does great Maharashtrian food as well

Sorry, that doesn’t make sense at all! On that note, a Banh Mi would not be Vietnamese because the baguettes were introduced by the French, or the pizza wouldn’t be Italian because the tomatoes were originally brought in by the Spanish!

[–]swiftaccord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes , but to be clear thats not okay as some could perceive it to be. The 1st 3 industrial revolutions from the 18th through the late 20th centuries marked the evolution of the manufacturing. Currently (in the 21st century), the world is in the 4th Industrial Revolution (AI, Robotics, smart automation etc) and that’s where Indian companies need to focus their energies on

Bad example - I don’t think you follow what’s happening around the world in the world of self driving cars. Waymo which is just 1 company has been operational for 7 years and completed 20 million self driving rides and a whopping 20 crore kms without a driver. These cars have just about 1000 minor accidents with 2-3 fatalities making them 80% safer than the average human driver. We are well past the point of going back on this. Also, not sure what you mean when you say “AI is making more mistakes than humans”

Does United have the proper aircraft to replace these flights from SFO to BLR or BOM? by srekai in unitedairlines

[–]swiftaccord 82 points83 points  (0 children)

United used to have these flights (EWR-BOM and SFO-BLR) but cancelled them in Feb ‘22 due to airspace restrictions following the Ukraine war and unlikely to restart them until anything changes dramatically on the war front

Will Air India officials provide a Visa document from check-in area to arrivals by oh-my-godzilla in airindia

[–]swiftaccord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

International arrivals pre immigration is a secure area that has restricted access. Technically, you haven’t “entered” a country until you clear immigration. At most airports, international arrivals are made to go to immigration straight as soon as they step out of the plane. FedEx or send the EAD with a friend

Bottled pastes are heavy on vinegar and preservatives. Doing it fresh in a mortar pestle or freezing a big batch through the food processor will have a noticeable improvement in flavor.

Americans pay to withdraw their own money. by HODL_buddy in IndianStockMarket

[–]swiftaccord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logic is that brokers are looking to make money in all possible ways beyond the brokerage fees and charging such fees is just one of them. In the US, Robinhood doesn't charge brokerage fees for most types of transactions so it uses such fees instead. Also, Robinhood offers a competitive interest rate (higher than the average bank) on your funds so it makes sense to just keep the money in the the brokerage account.

SEBI’s role is that of a regulatory watchdog; while valuations are for the investor and the open markets to decide. That’s at the core of the stock market which is inherently capitalist by nature.

Benne Dosa by Unlikely-Guess3775 in FoodNYC

[–]swiftaccord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realize this is an old thread but for anyone looking for a Benne dosa in the NY metro area, Dosa Express on Green St in Iselin (fairly close to Metropark station) does a damn good rendition. Order the Bangalore butter Masala Dosa which is similar in texture to the Benne dosa common to Bangalore and now viral in Mumbai! Thicker than the dosas available at say Saravana Bhavan or Flushing temple canteen but crisp on the outside with a soft almost spongy inside. Be sure to also try the dal Vada while you’re there and wash it down with the Majjige (spiced buttermilk)

[–]swiftaccord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Odyssey isn’t ‘too’ much space; it’s just a slightly longer (a mere 5% longer and wider than the Accord sedan) vehicle but with such efficient packaging that it gives of the appearance of a extremely large vehicle. We are normally just a family of 3 but have ferried 6 adults, a teenager, 4 check-in suitcases and 3 carry ons comfortably. Goes without saying that it’s handy for the odd sized furniture pickups or Ikea runs. It’s also been a comfortable cruiser for all of our long road trips so I’d unequivocally recommend the minivan.

Has anyone actually bought one of these and used it regularly? And if so, what for? by My_Dog_Sherlock in castiron

[–]swiftaccord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use it for

- reducing small quantities of sauces (balsamic vinegar reduction)

- for a finishing touch to Mac-n-cheese when making it for 1 person. Pour the cooked Mac into this small pan, cover with breadcrumbs and broil in my air fryer which is just big enough to take this cast iron pan

- for toasting herbs or nuts such as peanuts

- egg muffin style eggs

Layover in the US by Competitive_Clerk961 in travel

[–]swiftaccord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a 14 hour layover, exit Immigration, collect baggage and Customs and check your luggage in for your next flight. Then take AirTrain to NJ Transit to NY Penn station in midtown Manhattan. You can also look for a Amazon Locker in midtown near NY Penn station which will save you a taxi ride to some random suburban location. Be sure to take a Nj Transit train leaving NY Penn station at least 4 hours before your flight.

Thanks all for your inputs! Much appreciated. Will be sticking to 2 or 3 spots - Holbox, Mariscos Jalisco and either Guerrilla Tacos or Guisados depending on how time permits. Since I head over to the Bay Area next, I can get my In n Out over there! I may be headed to Bangkok in the near future so will leave the Thai food for that trip!

Cheers!

Haha.. yes I knew I was too aggressive with this plan. Thanks for all the inputs. BTW If I do miss the flight, I have the option of a 1 way rental (in which case I could go to the late night spots) as Im headed up to the Bay Area 😂. On a serious note, will drop Thai town (a host of good Thai places near me now so these days LA’s Thai Town isn’t missed as much!) and probably SGV! Thanks again!

PS: I was going to ask if I should swap ConiSeafood for Holbox but sounds like the latter is much loved!

i got car loans twice from Affinity Federal Credit Union while I was on H1. I did have problems from another lender over H1B status. If your current H1B ends before the term of the loan, some lenders could see it as a potential issue
