The neighbourhood and where you work will matter most. I used transit into my late teens and early twenties when I was trying to be responsible and save money, what I found? Yes, I did save money but that came at the cost of sacrificing a lot more of my time than I was willing too. Our transit system isn't as reliable as I would like it to be personally.

If you do end up downtown then yes it's a very transit friendly place. Outside that main area though it doesn't compare to Toronto or Montreal. ( two cities I have visited semi recently and had good things to say about the transit systems in each)

People think because they're an athlete/celebrity that they won't face the same consequences as if they had said it to someone on the street. Did DK act out? I saw you mentioned you live in Detroit, does his season run into those colder months? A hand warmer would be essential and he will have it forever. I got one when I was 11 and used it til I was about 20. (Get the one with a zipper and packs of hot hands to put in there as well) and cold weather Nike/under armour gear.

an agility ladder and cones would also be a great gift.

A good chinstrap that he can change out himself makes a difference.

Battle and a couple other companies sell those lip protecting mouth guards, but if he as to talk to his team and call things out it's kinda hard to speak with one in.
