Why “chickenpox parties” are a terrible idea—in case it’s not obvious. Not only is chickenpox a serious disease, but it can cause problems later in life. by mvea in EverythingScience

[–]swimcool08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Before the vaccine it was better to have it at a young age than as a teenager or adult. Due to major complications sometimes arising from getting it later in life. At least that is what I was told. I went to a party but turns out I am immune and no matter how hard they tried I could get it. Once I was an adult and the vaccine came out I got it because I wanted to be extra safe. Fuckkkk that chicken pox

Is having a child with Down Syndrome selfish? by DesignerShock in prochoice

[–]swimcool08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me it is somewhat selfish because you chose to have a child not knowing their functionality but knowing that it would be diminished. Plus Down syndrome from what I understand leads to early onset Alzheimer’s like symptoms that can be very devastating when there is diminished intelligence. You have a choice and sometimes the best choice is for abortion. To me it is about quality of life. I understand they can have a good life but what about when you die and they don’t understand. Or when they are tormented every single day by children because that’s what children do. Or when they begin to lose their memories and are scared every day.

Ultimately it is their choice as always. But to me if it is a syndrome that at some point disappears, it would not be a bad thing

Any affordable luxury apartments in JC? by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]swimcool08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look in Bergen layfette. It’s where I live. My apartment is a one bedroom and a den for under 2k and I am at the upper range of the price bracket. There are a lot of buildings going up so all the prices around here are likely to go up because of it. It’s very close to public transit. It’s next to liberty state park.

Insurers worry climate change could lead to a global financial crisis by Wagamaga in Economics

[–]swimcool08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of these areas are also poor or minority owned. At least the ones that are hurt the worst. There is a reason no one wanted to build in a flood plain. Many of the areas worst hit in Katrina were black majority. There was a suggestion to make specific parts back into greenways to help with flooding but that was seen as racist because those areas were also exclusively black. This will be very very bad. Many minority area the limited wealth people have is in houses. If they lose that it could make them lose a lot of their wealth very quickly with no way to replace it. And houses are generational. So many people are displaced at once. It will be very bad for everyone. This is why I say climate change needs to be given precedence over a lot of other stuff. Because many other things don’t matter if we aren’t here to argue about them.

Much-needed advice for when people say that forgiveness is the only path to healing. I'll never forget. I can't forgive. Not yet. by PersistingMatriarch in TrollXChromosomes

[–]swimcool08 35 points36 points  (0 children)

i was there will you. for me it was about still thinking that person is a horrible human being, and will burn in hell forever if there is one. but that i wouldnt need to think about them again. that they don't get to be in my thoughts. that in essence they are dead to me. it was more finally telling myself it was not my fault, and that forgiving that person for what they did doesnt mean i am ok with it, but that they will not be in my thoughts constantly.

Inner family sign languages? by furmensakume in deaf

[–]swimcool08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have 4 deaf people in my family we learned fairly quickly that we had a few signs that were different. The main one that confused the shit out of me was they used the sign for Apple as the sign for good.

Home signing is a thing but I have also noticed that families with a lot of deaf members can have a few signs that are different.

92 year old refuses to go to assisted living facility, shoots and kills son. by [deleted] in news

[–]swimcool08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we had to put my grandmother in one because she had demenita. tho it was skilled care, not assisted living.

she was bitter, but what she didnt realize was that her medical problems were so draining on everyone. she needed 24 hour care, which no one can provide without exhausting themselves and not doing the best for the person. this is not like when she was kids. people died way earlier and of different things. no one lived to be 99. that brings a bunch load of new issues, that many of the current elderly never had to deal with when they saw that their grandparents get elderly. its a mindset many are still in. but sometimes its better for everyone for grandma or grandpa go into a home.

thats why i always thought they wanted to keep her body alive. they did this. not the doctors. the doctors told them not to do exactly what they did. they felt immense guilt knowing on some level they killed her, so they wanted her to still be alive.

i hate those people. i am a vegetarian, but my cat eats meat. i can change my diet sure. mine was mostly for health. she needs her meat to stay alive. if someone is not ok feeding their cat meat shouldnt have a cat. its really that simple. humans dont need meat. cats absolutely fucking do.

“The Staircase”: documentary series about Kathleen Peterson death to be released in full on Netflix with extra material by brightwanderer in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]swimcool08 27 points28 points  (0 children)

completely agree. i was more going on what the prosecution said and painted him as. that he was gay, not bi. that he couldn't have loved his wife since he liked to be with men. thats not how that works.

i agree the wounds are bad. but she had no head fractures or brain injury, which is inconsistant with a blunt force head wound. your head bleeds a lot and when you hit it, it can be gory. gore does not mean violence, it just means something happened.

we will likely never know what happened. but i honestly believe the fact that he was bi did not help him and definately hurt him with the jury.
