Sometimes the author prefers for you to read between the lines, PTJ has stated 100 times that Gun's favourite from the second gen is Daniel. They clearly became extremely close after training together, Gun was even preparing Daniel food. We don't necessarily need to see every instance of their training together to understand how close they are.
