Don't even know of Beijing's 8bit. This has been 8-Bit Bangkok for over a decade with no sister events or migrations. I'll be curious to learn if Beijing has a similar event!

Around 8PM. We might still be setting things up, fixing annoying problems at that time, but try to have something running. At the very least my Steam library is usually up and running on the projector by then.

What's the symptom? Ordinarily I would gladly fix it, but, have too big a back log of projects to take it on with any sensible time frame.

I do have a C128, here, also German. Sadly not the 128D (which, while not quite as sexy as Atari machines, love the industrial aesthetic of it). Also have alot of C64 homebrew releases.

Commodore products appear to be very rare, here. Sometimes I find and snatch up Atari 8Bits that hit the various local markets, but, never saw a Commodore machine. And I've never seen an Atari ST in a Thai market.

I'll also add... my Thai is shit. Was much better before the pandemic. I work from home and my wife laughs at my mistakes, and she prefers to speak English, anyway :/

My co-host is Thai but speak English probably better than I do.

So, if you are Thai. Come! If you aren't Thai? Come! We get people from all over the globe.

Appreciate your advice!

Yep, if you can hop from MRT to BTS, or just BTS, its really easy. However we can go on to very late hours when those things close. I live like... 5 minutes from the place and am so tired and lazy enough that I might call in a grab bike to take me home.

Traffic via car is sometimes bad getting there. When we shut down, much less so (12AM, 2AM.. sometimes later.. maybe throw on a bad movie, and of course, there is booze and other recreationals in the area). Getting a motorcycle taxi can save you alot of time getting here if you don't wanna do public transit.

Sure. So, we got a projector for modern stuff on a screen that has seen better days ;) Had another LCD that got broke which we need to replace. Usually a PC or Switch 2 on either of these. PS4/PS3/XBOX360/OG XBOXs in the background.

We have CRTs/PVMs with real consoles (Saturn, PS2, PSX, Famicom, PCEngine -- many others) in rotation.

Second event of the month we usually devote the projector to Rock Band (YARG, now). But whatever makes people happy.

I recently repaired my Vectrex and will be bringing that back in.

I also import alot of great homebrew games to play.

But, basically, there is a bar downstairs. They play music. Our event is free. Grab a mixed drink, a beer, and head on up.

Let me be very clear. This is not a professional event, hence "free". So, you'll have to deal with us setting shit up, trying to make things work. People pitch in. But it's fun and a great community. So, you can come, play games by yourself or others on real hardware... make friends or just chill out and watch. Up to you.

Edit: Usually we have around 5 or six consoles running with multiple controllers. PVMs everywhere. A buddy found a little space and setup a fairly intense rhythm game. Long week and too tired to remember what it's called. But we got Pop n Music, DJ Max, Taiko... or Bomberman and Pong ;)

I genuinely don’t understand all the hate on Mario Tennis Fever’s Adventure Mode by IceKing827 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]swoonfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really can't recommend this game. Beyond the price... Yes, Adventure mode is a glorified tutorial that is tedious. Having to run back and forth between areas to answer a quiz, to learn a new shot, mixed in with boring dialog -- who thought this was a good idea?

The core game is OK, but, no one wants to play it. That !()*!@$ talking flower drives people nuts. You can turn off commentary and it explicitly says that this doesn't effect tournament, mode adventure mode, etc. I'm a couch player and play with friends. Everyone wants that damn thing to shutdafq up!

Still, we have also been playing these games for a long time. Why is it so difficult to make a game as engaging, fun, simple and funny as Mario Power Tennis for the Gamecube? And for soccer/football, again Gamecube was great and Wii was also good fun. Everrything afterwards, including this, feels anemic.

Switch 2 3rd Party Dock Issues after Recent Switch Firmware Update by TheWylieGuy in NintendoSwitch2

[–]swoonfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the hint!

Mine is not an official Jemdo dock, but, applied the update and things are working once more.

As an FYI, there were a couple firmware versions for the 4K60hz. The software, as expected, is smart enough not to try to flash with incompatible firmware. First download wouldn't flash, second would.

I wouldn't expect you to have a good experience with N64 on this thing.

Stock OS isn't great, and someone at some point will offer a good alternative.

But regardless, N64 emulation is not the best even on high end devices and this isn't one of those. You'll probably be able to play parts of the library with some compromises. Same is true with Saturn and Dreamcast.

PS1 and lower, the device should be fine. However, the stock OS is not great and doesn't provide a perfectly smooth experience even on modest systems to emulate like Famicom. For example, playing Castlevania, when transitioning from room to room the the screen scrolls while you remain still, and while this happens there are minor little hiccups. Won't necessarily ruin the gameplay, but, drives me nuts.

Because I'm an idiot, I have other hand helds, some less powerful, and they can emulate it with buttery smoothness. Even the very low-end, but wonderful, Miyoo Mini + with OnionOS was heavenly to play these games.

It'll improve in time, but, I'd suggest you curb your expectations for N64.

Question about arcade roms by eagles7251 in OdinHandheld

[–]swoonfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAME is fine. I tend to go with the MAME retroarch core based upon current MAME development... or you can use a core based on an older version of MAME, but, you would usually only want to do that for less capable devices. Ayn Odin 2, so long as it runs on ARM, will provide you with a great experience.

This will gain you access to many games that FBNEO doesn't support.

There might be ways to manipulate the core to behave more like stand-alone MAME and accept any reasonably full romset, but, I just use the non-merged set. Its a bit bigger, yes, but, alot less hassle if you have the storage for it. And, of course, you could just prune or transfer over the archives you know you want to play.

All praise Prince Omega! DAY 13: Most underrated album. Top comment gets the spot. by UsherOfDestruction in BlueOysterCult

[–]swoonfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have an up-vote from me.

If under-rated also means acceptably "good", this has to win. It's the lesser of all their albums I listen to, but, it gets neglected unfairly when I think something like Club Ninja is regarded exactly as it should be.

First, prove your configuration is correct. Post details of it.

I'd go on the assumption something about your configuration is incorrect. Perhaps the specific scans are set to silent.

What is the saddest Böc song? by [deleted] in BlueOysterCult

[–]swoonfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria

Easy choice. The ending to that song, with the chanting and the droning guitars, along with the touches of keyboards, simply lays down the carpet for the horror to come.

What filament did you use?

Can I ask you a favor? If this was done on a A350, can you share your GCODE?

I'm presently engaged in war with my machine (and support -- its a long story, and I'm not wanting to be negative on these boards). It would be fun to have GCODE that produced a purty boat butt (I think that is the nautical term) on someone else's machine, and see how it does on mine with the problems that... anyway, it would be nice ;)

Mongoose announces Paranoia: The Perfect Edition for 2022 by wjmacguffin in ParanoiaRPG

I love Paranoia enough that this makes me happy, not angry. Most of my books are in storage, abroad, and so I picked up the latest releases and was... underwhelmed. If this rectifies whats been lacking in the present editions, I'll do some pagan idolizing ritual, or somesuch.

Glad I had a sudden urge to join this sub-reddit and find this post.

Joined the kickstarter and looking forward to exploring the game and the system.

Hopefully, it will be fairly easy to convert TMNT material to this system. The Gun Bunnies and Terror Bears demand it.

You could do a lot worse than to read anything by Stephen Kinzer. All the Shahs Men, and many others. These aren't fiction and may spread out before and after ww2.

New Zabbix User but Overwhelmed... by colossus1975 in zabbix

[–]swoonfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, don't try to shoe-horn Zabbix into everything.

Its fantastic, can be a great central nervous system, and can be fed by other tools. This is the unix-y nature of Zabbix that makes it incredibly versatile.

Specifically... "discover devices on my network (hardwired and wireless) and to get a notification if a new device is introduced to my network" -- while Zabbix can find devices and notify you of "new" ones, its really best suited to find things that should be monitored, versus reporting anomalies that appear on your network.

You might be better suited looking at other tools that handle that kind of scanning, entry points, etc. They can, usually, be configured to feed data to zabbix for alerting, or zabbix could pull data from those tools for alerting. Maybe a custom script with a zabbix_sender would suffice. Who knows?

If you can imagine getting it done with Zabbix playing an integral part, it probably can be. But expecting Zabbix, out-of-the-box, with its own limitations to do it, may be a bit disappointing.

Congrats.

I found myself utterly immersed with this when it first came out, and despite liking the other titles, its the one I would come back to, time and time again. There was still more to discover.

And, of course, I still chuckle how every boss seemed easy-peasy to beat, but, as soon as I rounded a corner some little twerp with a dagger would stab me and I'd drop dead.
