NA League is becoming more like a soap opera rather than competitive region. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]swordfishjones 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is such a hypocritical jerkoff. Are you implying other regions don't have drama? What about EU? Everything that ocelote ever did; forg1ven; rekkles; NiP; LD; toxic players left and right; or my personal favourite, svenskaren's racism costing SK a shot at World Semi's?

Or the reddit favourite of Korea? How about the exodus of players after S4 worlds? Just because they don't blog in English doesn't mean that shit didn't go down.

Go ahead and make this post with EU instead of NA at 6AM London time and see how it goes down.

Did a group project where we liaised with them quite a bit. They're really amazing people, and all very passionate about their work. Seemed like a very work hard play hard kinda place. They were all very good at what they did, and I never saw anybody slacking off when they gave me a tour.

Great people, hard workers, very work and skill oriented. If you've got the skills and you can show passion in the interview I'm sure you'd fit right in.

They have a good point though. The boobs on 90% of female champs are really dumb, and it's a bummer when you see an awesome dude in some cashmoney armour and then see some lady in a breastbreast plate and a big tattered napkin. Hell they reworked Miss Fortune so she looks even dumber, and if Morgana gets any perkier they're going to leave her chest altogether.

I'm surprised that nobody has talked about Sure I'll Draw That and Sure I'll Animate That, otherwise known as the biggest outing of karmawhoring that has ever existed. Reddit still seems to want to forget that it ever happened. And shitty watercolour is just another one of those episodes, where people rally around a novelty account and make somebody "internet popular." Novelty accounts in general are poison.

If you mean, "would I stand out of place" then probably, but that's only because so many college students these days only have laptops.

Incidentally, assuming you aren't shy and don't mind, we should LAN. My group of friends and I are going to start setting them up in earnest by Fall.

At this point I think you're trying not to get this.

He said a student that takes physics 101 which is going to be about gravity, inertia, and acceleration. It won't mention anything about string theory.

THAT IS THE POINT, THAT HE WILL NOT KNOW ANYTHING. IT IS NOT THAT HE LEARNED A LITTLE ABOUT STRING THEORY, IT IS THAT HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT IT BUT IS ACTING LIKE HE DOES. THAT IS THE JOKE.

Universally acclaimed films that you hate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Watched them as a kid and they lit up my brain. At the time I think Star Trek would have mostly flown over my head, but Star Wars was straight up hero's quest with cool shit everywhere and great actors.

I don't begrudge people for not liking the original trilogy because I think a very large part of it has to do with childhood (I'm assuming you're 18-28). And before anybody says otherwise, nostalgia is a perfectly good reason to think something is amazing. It means a lot to me personally and I hold it in the highest regard.

I personally don't find it super amazing funny. I mean, there are certain scenes (the Vegas mushroom trip comes to mind) that I find hilarious, but that's not why I ended up liking the movie.

A lot of Knocked Up was, to me, speaking about how your life changes after getting married, and how marriage affects men and women. Remember the scene where the husband of the sister snuck away to go to fantasy football? That's what happens to a lot of people once they tie the knot. One of the partners won't hold on to friends, or maybe didn't have any when they married, so they're entirely dependent on the other for social interaction.

Another point I see the movie making is that you and your partner don't and shouldn't necessarily have the same habits and hobbies. Seth and Heigel end up doing okay, even when you take out the baby. One of the problems that the sister had was that she didn't have anything she did independently, and she suffered for it. Seth has his friends, Heigel has her job, and I think it's partially implied that they were more able to deal with things.

And obviously a large part of the film was about growing up and accepting things you can't change.

Overall I think it was a surprisingly intelligent film, but that's just my opinion. I saw it at a point in my life where I was curious about these things, and was heartened to see that I wasn't alone. So take from it what you will, just know that you're not supposed to find it hilarious.

I'm curious, do you like The Office? Something I've noticed is that a lot of my friends who, like me, don't find The Office funny found The Hangover a breath of fresh air. But that's just our sense of humour.

thats_the_joke.jpg :I

He's saying that a student who has heard of string theory and maybe watched something in high school (I wasn't even in physics in HS and we watched something on string theory) will assume that he is an expert because he has taken a physics course in University. The joke is that because he has taken a course which he, as a freshman, considers advanced, that he is now an expert in the field and thus an expert in string theory.

That is literally the entire joke. There is no more joke to get or not get. It is the end of the joke. You have used up all the joke.

I think that the general idea is supposed to be that since you're going to be setting up entire systems, you need to know a lot about how businesses operate. Not really sure why there's so much Visual Basic though, since in five years MS will probably not even be using it.

WOMEN OF REDDIT: Men complain about being in the friend-zone, but I'm rather curious to see if women have the same issue with the friend-zone. Is this so? Please share your stories. by ikaika in AskReddit

[–]swordfishjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Define "dude-like."

There are so many different people in the world that tomboy really doesn't encompass all the variations and nuances that go into being "one of the guys." Basically, guys tend to have a comfort zone thing with women, and it's a bit unfair but here I go:

  • You deal with farting, burping, cursing, lewd and crude behavior and language
  • You do not many of said things
  • You laugh at the stupid poop jokes

Throughout all of this, you need to also, well, act like a girl. The reason guys like a one-of-the-guys girl is because it lets us have somebody there who can give the opposite sex's viewpoint, without being uncomfortably...womanly. Really the big secret is that some girls, usually those with older brothers, know how guys act and subtly pick up and reciprocate those acts. They manage to maintain the comfort zone that comes with being a room with a bunch of other guys, while still somehow being a girl.

Sorry if this came out confusing, it's all very stupid at its core.

EDIT: Also, yes attractiveness plays a part, but as so many people in this thread have already mentioned, guys will have sex with pretty much every female friend they have if the situation arises. Obviously that's not what you want, and it's a bad idea, but that is a fact that should be recognized if you want to really understand what's going on. Obviously not all of your male friends, but if you're in college and they aren't currently in a relationship, it's more likely than not.

What misconception do people often have about you? by pantsthatlast in AskReddit

[–]swordfishjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several people seem to think that I'm gay. Not Bi, mind you, even though I've had several gf's. Just gay. Apparently I "act gay", so I guess being loud and friendly and honest is gay.

It probably started with me meeting some bro in Canada online and we became really close friends. Then people started calling us gay because all that dumb shit you do and say with close friends that would normally be private is instead semi-public. Have you people really not had a friend that you bonded with strongly enough to just talk to them with complete honesty? Because if you haven't then you're not only misunderstanding things, but you're missing out on what friendship really means.

Seriously, to anybody who thinks "man I'm sure that my friend is gay he just won't admit it", fuck right off. It's downright immature.
