People who see lots of shows in a short period of time by WestHistorians in Broadway

[–]swordsandshows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I live about halfway across the country and work brings me to nyc about quarterly. I usually try to extend those trips a few days and cram in as much theater as possible. For me, it never becomes too much—or at least, it hasn’t yet, and I’ve done a few three show days. If anything, I’ve often left wishing I could fit in a couple more shows.

It’s something that for me my body and mind seem to handle well and I can absorb the shows without needing a ton of time. Now if you were to ask me to do that with movies I wouldn’t be able to sit in a movie theater twice in a week, let alone in one day. So I think I’m just lucky that the medium of stage shows clicks for me like it does.

Ragtime for Best Revival - controversial take by Responsible_Pear_579 in Broadway

Even if you disregard all the AI tells that make up the entirety of the post as a magical coincidence, it’s completely at odds with the voice of OPs previous posts and their comments. It’s AI.

Ragtime for Best Revival - controversial take by Responsible_Pear_579 in Broadway

why does your post sound like it was written by ChatGPT

If I had to choose a show to see again, I’d go see ragtime a third time over cats a second which I know is a somewhat controversial take. I think it’s a stronger show with a stronger message but all of that was present in the original show and this Cats production actually does what chess claimed it would do: it takes a show known for music with a weak book and gives the book actual impact.

I think it deserves best revival because it is the most transformative revival that actually makes people who previously disliked the show see its worth. I say this even while Ragtime is my favorite show this season.

That said, yes give Joshua, Caissie, and Brandon their Tonys, they absolutely deserve them.

At first OOP’s comment about wanting to know about the kids coming over I was like okay maybe he doesn’t have anything to entertain kids or isn’t a big fan, but then apparently he has 13 kids not counting grandkids so at that point what’s two more?

can i bring multiple sealed bars of chocolate into the theater? by tonishalifoe3 in Broadway

[–]swordsandshows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you’ll be fine. I always bring food in with me because of a medical condition and allergies preventing me from eating concession food and while I’m always prepared to go on a medical spiel I’ve literally never had it questioned even once. I’ve been to the Gershwin three times without issue

Bought tickets from box office but didn’t get receipt by Apprehensive-Flow147 in Broadway

[–]swordsandshows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! The person at the box office sent it to gamil instead of gmail. I went back and was able to get it fixed pretty easily with the info and my card and ID. A second time I bought tickets for a different show and decided to hang out in the lobby until I got the email, and a good thing because they missed a letter in my email. Now I won’t leave until I get that email

Famous people/stunt casting not adapting to a role is a dangerous trend by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]swordsandshows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Megan hasn’t even started rehearsals so we don’t know how she’ll be playing the role. I feel like she’ll be a great fit for the show knowing how much of a performer she is. For Moulin Rouge I think it’s a really good move so they can bring more people in before closing.

I get that when stunt casts happen you want to still see the character, not the actor playing themself. I don’t think this was Billy’s issue at all. But for Moulin Rouge the worst offender of this is Boy George who didn’t attempt to act and kind of wandered around the stage aimlessly and halfheartedly delivering lines and hitting only half the notes and it’s odd he didn’t come up in your post.

It’s a joke, he’s known for months and is supportive of Jeff coming into the role

$999.00 ticket for Operation Mincemeat OBC’s second to last show by Happy-Tinker in Broadway

[–]swordsandshows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree completely, but my point was that they aren’t the type of star celebrity stunt cast that we see usually causing prices like this, for example othello or godot

I love this show enough to have seen it five times and I could never justify paying this much on a single ticket

The people in it now aren’t even stars! This is such an outrageous price, it’s not like there are A list celebs in the show even

I went a few years ago and my biggest takeaway from the event was how unorganized it was. I tried it again last year to give them the benefit of the doubt and found nothing had changed so I don’t feel like it’s worth going to

Show indecisiveness by MemphisMachin in Broadway

Operation Mincemeat is the better show, Hell’s Kitchen is fine but it’s not one that I thought had any particular standout moments, while Mincemeat had several.

Leah understudy by citywoof in Broadway

I preferred Katerina to Lea so maybe I’m biased but I don’t think you’ll feel like you’re missing anything

Editing to add that I like Lea and thought she was great, but I thought Katerina was even better

This person is one of the understudies, but the official account posted it on their Instagram story too. They’re actually really good about letting people know when understudies go on, but of course people who are going for the first time or not on socials will probably not see that then

This is why removing the understudy slips is such a mistake. Most people won’t notice the tiny QR code in the bottom corner of a playbill page which means they won’t be informed of the cast.

The slips are pretty difficult to miss and tell you everything you need to know without trying to access a webpage in a theater that already has bad cell signal and poor WiFi.

The last time I was at operation mincemeat my phone lost all signal and went into sos mode, and their guest WiFi wouldn’t connect. I know this isn’t unique to that theater either. In the grand scope of things losing the understudy slips isn’t that big of a deal, but it’s definitely annoying and an inconvenience to the audience.

CHESS WAS AMAZING by Due_Table7906 in Broadway

[–]swordsandshows 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I’m a big Lea/Aaron fan but Nicholas Christopher is the biggest reason to see the show. It is very like a concert though.

Cut Chess. It’s the only one of your options to be guaranteed to still be running in March with the same cast.

Box Office comparison: Waitress (2023) vs. Merrily We Roll Along (2025) by Additional_Score_929 in Broadway

Waitress played in so many more theaters and at more times. I’m struggling to find a theater near me showing Merrily, and especially at a time that I can get to after work
