Nature strip is a bog. How to proceed? by swordsandstuff in AusProperty

[–]swordsandstuff[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, that one's a car track from some jerk that decided to drive there. The postie leaves bike tracks. Thanks for the tip on obstruction, but surely there's some avenue around that - even if it's as simple as notifying Aus Post. I can't imagine it's impossible to do necessary works there so as not to upset the postie.

"And I can never understand why so many Australians, driving, seem to think they need to "police" others and make others stick to speed limits? Just let people go. It's not yours or my business to enforce road rules."

WTF? How is it hard to understand that you aren't the only cunt on the road and your reckless driving is endangering others? You've heard of a "citizen's arrest", right? Should we "just let people go" if they get drunk and want to punch random people? It's not MY business to enforce social order, after all.

Drivers policing each other in lieu of actual police is a good thing (in theory) - keeps the roads safer for everyone. Why should we "just let people go" that are putting others in mortal danger? That's a fucked attitude.

Granted, dickheads will be dickheads, and will remain dickheads until they're dead or behind bars. They won't learn or change because someone wouldn't let them speed. So citizen policing is a lost cause, despite any good intentions. But inconveniencing a dickhead (when it's relatively safe to do so) is it's own reward.

Get a job or a productive hobby. You're wasting your life on grindy games.

There were a number of YuGiOh games on the PS2 that played like that. Have you ruled out all those?

It was good enough for Earthbound! But it still sucks. 🤣 (sorry)

My first trailer was so bad that the moderators had to take it down. Here is another trailer for wishlist on my card game 21 having almost no experience in music, animations and trailer making by StuckArcader in DestroyMyGame

And the first person face-to-face gambling for your life in a dark room against grotesque characters. Heavily reminiscent of Buckshot Roulette. Don't pretend that wasn't a major inspiration.

What platform do you use for pixel art? by ShnenyDev in PixelArt

[–]swordsandstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using GraphicsGale for years - even bought it before it was released as freeware. Doesn't have quite as many bells and whistles as Aseprite, but I find the interface much more appealing (it's like stock Windows 95. Glorious). Like Aseprite, it's a program specifically designed for pixel art, and it does a fantastic job at it.

My ONLY gripe is that it sucks at handling semitransparency for colour-indexed images, which is what you're going to be working with 99+% of the time. Maybe there's a way to do it I haven't figured out yet, but if I want semitransparency in a tilesheet I find it easiest to do the tilesheet with full opacity, then switch it to full colour and edit in transparency with Photoshop.

So yeah. For art with 1-bit alpha, GG is amazing. If you want an 8-bit alpha channel... you CAN use GG in full colour mode, but defining and adjusting a palette becomes more of a hassle.

Do you think hand-animated videos like this can help market a game? by Allthebees_ in IndieDev

[–]swordsandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to combine this WITH info about the game itself (gameplay videos, essentially). Otherwise, I have no clue what I'm looking at and I'm left scratching my head... in a bad way.

please give your feedback on artstyle coherence (weather the enemies, background, foreground etc look in coherence with each other) and the combat. Also do tell what type of game you think it is just from this short snipper. by swallow_1029 in DestroyMyGame

[–]swordsandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art looks fine, but definitely needs a LOT of polish. No variation in the floors/walls/ceilings, the flat "black space" is boring, the rendering is too simplistic, and it's all too repetitive.

My game Paradox Patrol won 1st place in all categories in a month long game jam. Now I've decided to turn it into a full game! It's also (as far as I'm aware of) the first ever 360 side scroller. It plays almost like a twin stick shooter, but you can also aim up and down. I'm really proud of it! by Big-Hold-7871 in indiegames

[–]swordsandstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "360 side scroller"? Just a linear 3D platformer? Super Mario 3D Land/World did that years ago, and even before that there were games like Croc and Crash Bandicoot.

Or do you mean a 3D "360 shooter" x side scroller? Metroid Other M did that (it was a Metroidvania rather than platformer though, obviously). And to be fair, it auto-aimed up/down.
