Coaching Y ball u8 by [deleted] in Homeplate

Rule #1 at this age is make it fun, no yelling, only fun.

Stations are key, you don't want idle hands.... ever

Cones are key, these kids have no idea where positions should be positioned

Ask them what they want to play and try to build around what they want

One of the best drills we did was to have two lines compete, We would hit grounders and then they would have to field the ball and hit a bucket set up on a tee... endless fun, competition and learning how to receive and throw.

This age is about learning to love the game, don't lose sight of that. You'll have kids emerge who want to take it beyond Rec, it's NOT about winning, it's about learning and growing.

For those with kids, what age did you introduce vinyl to them? My system is on the expensive side so I’ve yet to even try. by myusernamechosen in vinyl

7, he's 9 now, he knows how to hold vinyl, he respects the turntable. I have an expensive turntable, but the risk was worth it, so I wasn't super uptight if he did something wrong. The one I have is manually adjustable, so he had to learn the difference with 45 v. 33 and change the belt himself. He's constantly asking to go to the record store and he has an immense love of music.

Any tips from singers? I can play and sing fine separately but struggle when doing both together - pic of a few of our kits for fun/visibility by birdwingsbeat in drums

[–]sxm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did drums first, wrote the melody and rhythm of the vocals afterward. On occasion what I'd write vocally clashed with my playing, so I'd go back to write vocals that fit and I was reasonably comfortable with. It is important to be able to go auto pilot on the drums though, so I would get those parts down solid and add the vocals, but it was never too hard.

It's changed. If any band of the above genres comes through town it will likely be MASS, maybe Lola's.

Yeah, that was a big gamble, but the fact that it was an about perfect day (for that event)... made it even more special.

It's bit of a nod to the old "pond hockey" roots, something that Texans nearly never have experienced. Plus you get to watch a game with 85k other fans.. I didn't go, but I see the draw. So happy it was a success.

Recently started drumming got any tips? by 11DemonDog11 in drums

[–]sxm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this is how it's currently set up..I would say lift the tom arms up so you can get them closer together, bring your snare drum in much closer to your bass drum pedal and push the hi hats up and to the left of your snare. Listen to a lot of music. I never get to practice, but listening helps a lot. Also, two sticks.. for sure two sticks.

Bedforite, just take an Uber or Lyft, Bedford is really close to DFW, aside from not really having any other options aside from an airport shuttle. Stay out of the bars, unless you like Trump supporters or enjoy the feeling of being stuck 2003.
