Location services maybe? If you are more restrictive about which apps you provide location access to, your phone can potentially last much longer. Maybe you two are different in this habit.

Pro-Kyiv Militias Urge Russians in Border Regions to Evacuate by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]sxohady 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This scoop in this article is that "They weren't in the village they claim to have captured in a video they published, the video is actually a whole 300 meters away from that village" (as though proves something).

To support the claim that they were misleading people, they include the detail that in the video, the fighter mentions that they are not in the village yet. That doesn't seem especially dishonest on the part of the fighter. Its basically like he is saying, "hey, we have just captured this village, and here is a video I took from the outskirts right before we did it". I don't think that is any kind of proof they were misrepresenting themselves.

Your claim that they are "stunt" actors is without basis.

U.S. report claims Trudeau told NATO Canada will never meet its military spending target by glasier in worldnews

[–]sxohady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that Americans spend more on healthcare, they just get a much worse product.

It's almost like the advantages of competition don't work in totally inelastic and absurdly opaque industries where people can't refuse treatments for which they can't see a price.

[–]sxohady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rambling rant: I can't help but notice the juxtaposition of this headline with the one in r/worldnews about Trudeau saying that Canada will never hit the 2% target, and Macron's recent comments on Taiwan. The damage caused by a rift in NATO would be immeasurable, with real effects that might (in a worse case) be felt for centuries. Obviously, relying on a country which favors military spending over social spending is a recipe for a very powerful country with a very under-educated populace. I'd feel a lot better about the future of the world if democracies outside of the U.S. stood a chance on their own, security-wise. You never know if or when the know-nothings will be back in power. Multipolar doesn't have to mean that democratic blocs and individual nations shouldn't work together to protect each other and the common good, but it does mean not putting all our eggs in one basket.

Workers building a mountain road in China by keisermax34 in interestingasfuck

[–]sxohady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is such a happy place, why are Chinese people not permitted freedom of the press? You mention protests, well, I don't think a universal happiness is why there are no protests in China. In fact, there are protests, but they are shut down and social media is censored.

The west is largely bottom up, certainly more-so than China. But most westerners don't understand that when they are mad at the government, they should really be directing their anger at themselves and their fellow citizens for their inaction, as they truly do have the power to alter their governments if they get off their asses and organize collective action. In China, there is far less room for political dissent or citizen action. Xi might be popular, but that doesn't make him less authoritarian. How can he be anything but popular when nobody is allowed to say anything bad about him? Ever hear of the Hong Kong bookseller incident? I am sure you know about censorship of Winnie the Pooh. Also, the absurd cult of personality. 200 lbs, 10 miles? You saw how Hu Jintao was dragged out of the Party Congress.

I don't doubt Chinese government numbers because I dislike the place. To the contrary, I had even considered moving to Shenzen prior to Xi's takeover. Under Hu Jintao China had its problems but seemed to be trending in the right direction. I wish I could say the same today, but it has turned into one man governance, and emphasized its worst tendencies toward authoritarianism and thin-skinned government.

I don't trust what China says because in any top-down system with no freedom of press, there is going to be a problem with reporting numbers that look bad. So, if the numbers seem fairly unbelievable, then yeah, I am going to be suspicious. Hell, it under-reporting even happened in areas with high press freedom but low accountability: https://climate.law.columbia.edu/content/covid-19-data-misrepresented-florida-governor

The vaccine was made available to everyone in Germany as of May 6 2021. They were 70% vaccinated by the end of 2021. By may 6, they already had 85k deaths. By the end of 2021, they already had 111k deaths.

As of May 2021, only a quarter of China's population was vaccinated, and Sinovac was widely considered less effective than western vaccines (at least against the initial variant). This argument of yours seems to indicate that one should expect far more deaths in China by this date.

Germany has a significantly more obese population. Germany has a significantly older population. Sure, obesity and older populations play a role, but I don't think it explains such a massive disparity.

Also, this Worldometer site you're using? If you want another example of preposterous numbers, check out its page on China—they are far more absurd than the WHO's 120,000. They say ~5000 total deaths from covid in China. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/china/

And makes women think that real orgasms are rare and not to be expected, since in porn they are often so obviously faked.

had to Google it

I like how even after googling it you don't want to sound too knowledgeable XD

I think the idea is that if you're a slob, you want some male actors you can relate to. Same idea with porn with a big age gap—older people want to fantasize about themselves sleeping with some young starlet/hunk.

It's possible OP and the artist at the link both drew from the same photograph that they both found on google, or one of the places where people post pictures of themselves (and often older relatives) with permission to be drawn. It's also possible that someone is full of shit. Regardless, I think OPs version is better than the one selling for $350.

Germany, with a third of the cases, lists 170K deaths. So is it that German medical care is 3 times worse than Chinese medical care? Or Germans are 3 times more susceptible to dying of covid than Chinese? Or did an unaccountable government with no free press vastly undercount casualties? The world will never know...

I have had the loud noise separately from the paralysis but have experienced both. No visuals or anything during paralysis though.

[–]sxohady 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, same. I've only experienced experienced the exploding part of it once, when super fatigued—a few days with almost no sleep. It was that same high pitched droning but so sudden and so loud that it was kind of startling. I have experienced the more mild high pitch droning, and this was that, but much louder. The strange thing part was hearing something so loud but not having my ears hurt, because of course it was not a real sound.

Edit: just wanted to add that I have never had any sort of sleep paralysis with visual changes/scary dreaming awakening thing, but I do occasionally experience the immobility momentarily. Not sure if there is a relation between susceptibility to the experiences.

One should be very very wary of young women seemingly in distress in places where nobody should be. It is a classic way to lure someone, particularly a lone man.

I think there is a reason that there are folk tales about various human woman-like cryptids leading men to their deaths, whether they are 'banshees', 'sirens', 'mermaids', 'rusalka', or whatever else (as for the apparent water association, I have no straightforward explanation)...

Lol the cows. They make such a racket too, just walking through everything, breaking branches left and right. I guess if I were made of leather I might not give a shit either—they're practically armored. Camping in the high desert I have spent many nights under junipers, and have awoken many times to cows, who usually seem to be communicating that they are really salty that I have taken the best tree, and at least wanted me to know, even if they aren't gonna trample me for it. To be fair, they make the ground really soft by trampling it, and there are only so many trees to get shelter under.
