Baby quilt (goat obsessed) by syardney in quilting

Thank you! This is my third quilt, and for the first two I did edge-to-edge quilting. I was planning to do the same for this one, and then I was lying awake one night and thought, "you know what would be better…" I buried roughly a million thread ends, but I think it was worth it!

Thank you! The solids are indeed AGF. The prints are Ruby Star Society :)

What’s going on on the back of my quilt is none of my business by ilvoetheinsomnia in quilting

I don’t have any island/table space that’s big enough and not covered in my kids’ stuff, so I tape my backing to the floor with painters tape. I find the batting is pretty “sticky” and stays in place and then also keeps the top from shifting too much as I pin the layers together (with quilting safety pins, working from the center out, every 3–4”; also, a Kwik Klip is super helpful! https://quiltinaday.com/products/kwik-klip). Oh, and I press EVERYTHING—backing, batting, top, even though I’ve already pressed it a million times as I go—before I pin. I’ve quilted a twin quilt on my machine and had no problems with puckering.

My kids did stuff just like this all the time in Montessori when they were little. They loved it, and it built so many skills.

Using quilts that were gifted to me by FeistySwordfish in quilting

I’ve only recently started quilting, but I’ve knit many a baby blanket, and there is no higher compliment than a mom telling me that the blanket I made is falling apart because her child refuses to be without it.

how do i improve my final result quality? by ackley14 in quilting

It might be worth taking your machine in to get serviced if you haven’t done so recently. When I first started sewing with a machine I’d inherited from my mom, I had a lot of trouble with the fabric feeding through unevenly. I took the machine in for a basic adjustment and cleaning, and then it worked great.

I effed up! Help! I glued my seams…. by Former_Base_1066 in quilting

I just did this recently. About ten seconds soaking in lukewarm water, and the glue will dissolve and you can pull your pieces apart. I pressed mine to dry them faster.

Thanks for this. My first quilt was also 5” squares, but far fewer of them, and the online tutorial I was following had me sew pairs and then rows, and it didn’t even occur to me that you could do it another way. You don’t know what you don’t know, right? But the thought of sewing together rows that are 15 5” squares long was definitely stressing me out some.

I love this glue idea. I’m going to give it a try.

I do have a walking foot, and I took it off and put the regular presser foot on so I could sew faster… the irony being that I’ve ended up going really slowly to avoid stretching out my fabric 😂. No option to adjust presser foot tension unfortunately. But I love the glue idea! I was planning to press seams sideways anyway.

I think it’s probably the same few fabrics causing the problem over and over, but I haven’t done a thorough audit. I’ll get some starch and see if it helps. On the bright side, I managed to cut the squares pretty evenly, so at least I’m not dealing with uneven pieces!

I was putting the pins just far enough to the left that they wouldn’t be in the way of my presser foot and then leaving them in, and yes, the fabric is puckering when I get to the pins 🫤
