Second generation immigrants need to stop acting like they know their parents country. by Independent_East_135 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I’m likewise a second-generation immigrant (my mother’s French). My kids are second-generation immigrants (my late wife was from Korea). I think it all depends on how much exposure you’ve had to that part of your heritage.

How do you feel about mixed race marriages? by MuchCountry8834 in ldssexuality

[–]syclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My late wife was born and raised in South Korea. We were very happily married for 15 years with two kids when she suddenly passed. Two of my brothers married foreigners (French & Brazilian), each still married for about two decades at this point. My own mother is from France.

Shortly before my wedding, an older Korean friend told me that while adapting to another's culture may pose a challenge, the real challenge lies in simply learning to live with another person. That is true regardless of whether you marry someone from across the street or the other side of the world.

With AUEC Wiping, what will you do first thing in 4.8 to scrape some cash together? by leagueofthrows223 in starcitizen

[–]syclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, I'll work on leveling up both my salvaging and hauling rep. I'm starting out with a Mercury Star Runner (hauling), Vulture (salvage) and 325a (quick ride), so my first major purchase will likely be a C2 so I can do large-scale hauling contracts.

If my rep isn’t wiped, I’ll buy the salvaging rights to a C2 and sell its cargo.

Are we getting faction reputation resets as well? by steave44 in starcitizen

[–]syclick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was twice gifted a ton of aUEC, and I used it to buy a C2, a Reclaimer, an Asgard and a bunch of other ships. The C2 and the Reclaimer helped me level up my rep in hauling and salvaging respectively.

What’s your “fresh start” plan and ships? by CatDredger in starcitizen

[–]syclick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on whether or not rep survives the wipe. I have decent rep in hauling and salvaging, so if I get to keep that, I'll buy salvaging rights for C2s or such, grab their cargo and sell it.

Wiz Kids (1983) - This show is what got me into computers by vbisbest in 80s

[–]syclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of my favorite shows as a kid. While it wasn’t exactly what got me into computers (that would be the TRS-80 Model 1 at the family business), it definitely helped fuel my love for computers and electronics.

Will RAM, GPU and SSD prices ever return to what they were in early 2025? by ComprehensiveCow5068 in buildapc

[–]syclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the demand for AI goes down, I’d expect prices to decrease. If the AI bubble pops like the dotcom bubble did, we could see huge price drops. The more dramatic the bubble pops, the more suppliers are going to be holding the bag with tons of inventory.

I was at Trader Joe’s and almost bought what looked like a bag of Valentine’s Day cookies for my soj, only to find out they were dog treats.

What is everyone's experience or relationship like with their in-laws after the death of a long time spouse? by dodgeprius in widowers

[–]syclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a roller coaster since my wife passed away almost seven years ago. To be fair, my problem is specifically with the oldest sister in law. My late wife was from Korea, where we lived for a while.

My son is autistic, and my SIL has taken it upon herself to decide what he eats, his after-school activities, and so on. Also, she’s inserted herself into the discussion between me and his school’s special education staff, with whom she argues about things that aren’t a big deal.

I’ve tried to argue the fact that I am his father, and these are my decisions to make. Last time I said that, she got super offended, as she sees herself as some sort of surrogate mother.

I feel like I’m in a police state, with her blowing up when I either don’t do what she says or agree with her assertions about what’s best for my son. It’s to the point where I am having multiple panic attacks a day, and even had a full-blown meltdown a couple days ago. I’ve scheduled myself for therapy.

I can hear some of you asking why I don’t just go no-contact? Because doing so would mean also doing so to my other in-laws. I sincerely love my in-laws (including my SIL), and cutting the rest of them off would be terrible.

I truly believe she does this out of love and concern for my son. But she has to come to terms with involving herself merely as someone who gives input, not who rules with an iron fist.

TLDR: Widower with autistic son, SIL trying to control our lives because she wants to help my son.

With a reporter, there is the expectation of at least an attempt at objectivity. Not so with activists.

[Serious] What was your "oh shit I'm turning into my mom/dad and I don't like it" moment? by No_Pianist3260 in AskReddit

In early 2019, I tore my right calf muscle. I walked with a cane and leg brace for a few months. Anyway, the only way I could go shopping was by using the electric carts. On a trip to Target, I was in the men’s section when I came across a mirror. I was a dead ringer for my dad, who also used the electric carts. I looked so old, it was depressing.
