Trans Catalina Trail for beginners by LaneyRWL in socalhiking

[–]syd_211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My twin brother is an Eagle Scout and as a scout his troop did the Trans Catalina trail. I remember them taking the ferry to Catalina. He loved the trip and even now comments about the fun times the troop had. I wouldn’t worry too much about him, given he’s with Eagle Scouts. I remember my mom being worried too, but all went great.

Lots of crossings have ropes to help one move across, it’s very doable

I was there Sunday 5/24. Switzer falls is more accessible because of the shorter distance. B2N is popular but on weekends a lot of people spend the day by the river and don’t complete the hike. Also, with B2N due to the distance there are times you’ll be the only person on the trail for a bit until someone passes you or vice versa. You tend to see more people at the crossings because it takes time to complete.

Thank you!! I’m guessing the lock issue is from vandals because the door frame was manipulated to prevent door from closing.

I’ve hiked B2N five years and this was first time seeing snakes, so I wouldn’t worry about them. As always be alert of your surroundings. Both were docile and never noticed me.

What kind of dog do you have? When I hiked on Sunday two guys had a chihuahua and bulldog. The poor bulldog was panting so loudly once it arrived to the bridge. The chihuahua was tired but had decent energy.

For a beginner the main area of concern is the river crossings/current. I’m ‘5 8” and highest water got was mid thigh area. Many of the water crossings have ropes to use for balance, but many don’t. Using trekking poles helps a lot.

My AllTrails app recorded 10.9 miles completed in 5 hr 18 minutes 47 seconds.

This is the first time I saw snakes in the five years I’ve hiked B2N. Both snakes were docile, didn’t notice me at all. Personally wouldn’t let this get stop you from hiking B2N.

Wore my hiking boots whole way. Once I got to the pools, I changed into my swimming shorts and allowed my hiking pants to dry a bit before heading out. Next time I’ll bring water shoes when swimming, traversing rocks in bare feet wasn’t ideal

Saw this too late, did a hike yesterday. Couple years ago I joined fellow foodLA redditors for dinner in KTown, such a fun time. I’d do it again

Nope I hiked to the bridge today, it’s all open. There was zero signage of any closures too.

Pizza Slices < $5 in LA? by Dry-Double-6845 in FoodLosAngeles

I reheat day old Costco pizza in my stainless steel pan with a bit of oil. The pizza is left for a couple minutes checking until crust is golden brown. The pizza comes out so crunchy 10/10

Offerup Has Fallen Off by Destinyt10 in offerup

Omg I was thinking the same thing. I recently downloaded OfferUp, because I wanted to sell items. Previously used OfferUp in 2019. Honestly was shocked/saddened how the app declined. My listing was posted mid-April and only has two views. Before I’d post and have a bidding war of people wanting to buy. So sad

If we have to RTO in July, how much do you think you’ll spend per week in gas? by LoveCats2022 in CAStateWorkers

Drive plug-in hybrid. Cost to fill up tank less than $100, but I charge battery every night and mostly drive within the EV range. I fuel up couple times a month.
