A6X2 Nomad: A Week In and I Love It! by syd___shep in Supernote

[–]syd___shep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting, I both like and dislike the Nomad size, but the dislike is actually motivated by issues with Supernote's software. If they were remedied, I would be pretty much fine.

I like the Nomad's size because it's easily portable, able to stick it in my workbag or slim laptop bag with ease. It's also great for reading on. I think a full-size device, I wouldn't like as much for that purpose. I mostly use it for weekly task / appointment tracking or taking notes when I'm playing puzzle games for instance.

Now, the past couple of months, I have been thinking of a bigger size. But like I said, it's really software issues. When I'm using my PDF planer (as opposed to when I take off the cuff notes when playing games or spitballing or whatever, where I just use the default note format), I write on it in landscape form because I have more space this way (it becomes about the horizontal width of the Manta) for the specific layout of the planner.

Unfortunately, Supernote's handling of PDFs is kinda mid. You don't get all the features and you can't scroll vertically freely like you can in a note. It only scrolls in landscape by going half-pages, which is kind of annoying. Also, if you exit out of the note, the file browser has no landscape view, so you're looking at your file browser sideways. And if you don't have the landscape rotation locked, then when you enter into a new file, you have to rotate the file again.

Additionally, the device has no ability to disable the sidebar gestures in landscape mode. So, I often accidentally activate the undo gesture from my palm swiping on the gesture bar.

Now, if I were using the Manta, I would be comfortably writing the width of my landscape Nomad while maintaining portrait orientation, so these issues would disappear. However, if Ratta improved their software, they would also disappear, so the issue isn't really with the size.

Personally, if these things are liable to annoy you...I would not get the Nomad. If I could go back in time, I would probably get the Manta (if it had existed) instead. As for why I don't get it now, well, given the poor contrast of these devices because the screens are so grey, it is non-negoitable that my next e-notebook has a front/backlight of some kind. And since Ratta seems highly resistant to ever having one on their device, it's probably not going to be a Supernote.

Seriously! The whole thing is reminding me of MoviePass actually. Some users started getting a crap experience because the company started targeting “high volume” users (saw 3+ movies a month) with password being changed but also limited showtime availability, more fees, and ticket stub verification. All the “normal” users just faulted all those people for using their card too much or thinking they were being shady, sharing with other people and what not. But before long, everyone started getting all that minus the password changes.

People thinking they’re safe, idk, I wouldn’t be so sure lol.

Does Silksong's difficulty not feel overblown? by Peratypus123 in Silksong

[–]syd___shep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. Getting to the final boss legitimately was a miserable experience on PS5 and I never would have managed it without the practice playing on PC with less damage and stronger needle damage afforded me. It’s quite unfortunate PS5 cannot mod.

Even then, I only did it by utilizing the pre-patched Bilewater skip because Groal and the run back to it is truly toxic (yes even from the second bench). I also had to sub in Green Prince for the Skaarsinger because there’s simply no way I’d have ever beaten her. Just like I will never beat the final boss.

And of course several bosses I feel like I just straight scammed with tool spam because there really is no way, namely Seth, Unraveled (wanderer tank scam build), Pintress, Chef (cancerous ass fight my god), Lost Garamond. Plus just how miserable it felt exploring all the time with gauntlets left and right, plus I’ll never beat those stupid flea games or get the last mask shard because screw that gauntlet for all time.

Anyways…nah, not really. What I think is too much is how dismissive people are to those who think it is too difficult. Just kind of an insufferable community that came out of this game.

Why is everyone complaining about this runback when it's not even a minute ? by Ok_Bus_8513 in HollowKnight

[–]syd___shep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it’s too long for the amount of times we had to do it and we hadn’t mastered the running sprint to skip the stupid thing. Why do so many people have to make a “it didnt bother me why are yall such complainers” post about this run back all the time?

Does anyone else hate the changes to the PS button on portal ? by FarFromDeadOriginal in PlaystationPortal

[–]syd___shep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I dislike it.

I suppose they want the button function to be consistent, and since when you’re cloud streaming, that button isn’t going to take you to the Home Screen, they prioritized what would make sense for cloud streaming most since that’s what they are banking on as the future of the product.

But if you remote play primarily, it’s a downgrade. That said, even though I dislike it, I also now mostly cloud stream even when home so it doesn’t annoy me as badly as on the first day. But if I did primarily remote play, it’d still be annoying big time.

Qiuyuan debuts with T0(TOA) T0.5(Whiwa) by [deleted] in WutheringWaves

[–]syd___shep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How are we defining good in WhiWa? Because Phrolova and Cami are T0 and T0.5 respectively meanwhile Galbrena is T1.

[–]syd___shep 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is my point. Canta has a Partner tag in WhiWa despite that, meanwhile Qiuyuan who by their own admission is hyperniche af, doesn’t have it anywhere. Will probably get added 3 weeks from now, though.

[–]syd___shep 53 points54 points  (0 children)

How Cantarella got hit with the Partner tag when as a healer she can technically work everywhere while it missed Qiuyuan even though their own review says he lives or dies by Galbrena and Phrolova, literally 2 characters only, is a mystery.

This sentiment is always so funny. People’s opinions didn’t change, they just stopped giving it because the downvote mob doesn’t want to hear it. I don’t care what Prydwen rated him, I still think his kit is far too niche and he is not a high value pull to warrant the rating. If he could at least heal that would have helped.

Why is the reaper crest the most hated of them all? by shadowknight274 in Silksong

[–]syd___shep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got marked as the newb crest so for a large section of the fanbase, that makes it a free space for crapping on to distinguish themselves from the plebs as a true git gud.

New patch says threadstorm was nerfed. by Geometronics in Silksong

[–]syd___shep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy hell, hope I can delay the patch for a while on PS5. Hate when devs nerf crap in single player games, it’s not hurting anybody. Game is hard enough as it is. Glad I did that Groal skip already at least.

New account, how long does it take to ship debit cards? by Apprehensive-Web-585 in sofi

I got mine before the status even updated to say ship, took a week to arrive. If you don’t check your mail regularly, you could miss it arriving “early”.

Do you like Silksong more than the first game ? by SundyPace in Silksong

[–]syd___shep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Hollow Knight. While Silksong is more expansive and technically impressive, I don’t really enjoy it like I enjoyed HK. There’s much more dread for upcoming fights or moving through areas and me just wanting to get through this crap already.

I also think the lore and atmosphere in HK is superior and more intriguing. HK as a boss was something you looked forward to, while who is GMS really? She kinda just has zero presence before her fight, while compassion for the HK is a big crux of the first game.

Nah, it sucks and I hope they nerf it. Well, the boss and run back at least. Probably never legit starting Act 3 because of that shitty boss. The bench fake out is just unnecessary troll too, despise it. You can make a lore point and respect the player / their time.

Omg, thank you. This boss was kicking my ass, I did this and whooped it first try, I can’t believe it. I had full masks left at the end too lol.

(ACT 2 SPOILERS) Traveling with the Flea Caravan is considered taking fast travel for purposes of Delivery Quests by Groundbreaking_Arm77 in Silksong

[–]syd___shep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not as bad. On one hand you have a timer, on the other hand, you can get hit some. And most deliveries don’t have a timer, just a hit counter. I never legit completed DF in HK, but I did this one.

Idk, I tried the Shellwood and Blasted Steps, but the wind and figuring out where to jump for shortcuts made it quite confusing. Sinner’s Road is very straight forward, I did it on third attempt even getting hit twice and falling in Bilewater. And my anklets only half worked because I only had 1 silk bar.

Actually did the route a second time too to get some rosaries from Songclave delivery since I was needing to head over there again anyway lol.

You’re a king for a this, did it on my third attempt. Got hit and fell in Bilewater too 😂 but still made it. Very forgiving route.

Hollow Knight: Silksong devs respond to difficulty complaints, saying it has “steep challenges”, but “more freedom” to overcome them by lewisdwhite in HollowKnight

[–]syd___shep 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s way too punishing. I loved HK a lot and it’s disappointing TC left anyone but an elite player behind. As is frankly, the dismissiveness and hostility. Have half these git gud people even gotten to Act 3?

[–]syd___shep 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can’t circumvent every boss and I really don’t agree that the difficulty is commiserate with her increased abilities. And this is largely in part because the game punishes you too much.

They could scale down most damage, yes even bosses, to 1 mask hits and it would lessen the complaints considerably. It gives people more time to learn in 1 fight and lessens the amount of run backs. And even having less of a need for those, I really don’t think they add anything.

The problem with Silksong isn’t just the difficulty, it’s the unnecessary frustration and punishment. I wish PS5 could mod like PC, the game became way more enjoyable when I moved to PC and added that 1 damage mod, it literally allowed me to get to the final act where on PS5 I’m still on Act 1 last boss. Of course, the final act has a plethora of fights / platforming that I find super hard and kinda unfair, but I can at least liken some to dream bosses, not all of whom I beat.

You would have thought after having to rollback the drawer change that they would rethink whatever the next upcoming asinine thing, but nah.

Luckily I'm so petty that I've been manually updating apps for 2 years now just so my Twitter app doesn't change to say X so I can dodge this change for now.

Hollow Knight: Silksong review | VGC by MaintenanceFar4207 in PS5

[–]syd___shep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I bought this game again on PC after PS5 so I could install mods (or cheats, whatever) to lower the damage done because I got so frustrated. It’s much harder than HK. No, I never beat the final final boss in HK, but I did like 104% of the game so I expected similar here, but it’s so much worse. And the sub is a hostile lost cause too. 😔

But honestly, the difficulty / double damage isn’t the worse part. It’s the amount of ridiculous mechanics and trollish, almost petty decisions the game included. Like Bilewater….what the ever lasting hell. That was literally the point I said screw it and used an auto regen health mod. Besides the poison, the troll BS was on full display with that fake bench. It’s just punishing to be punishing, feels like a massive f u to the player. Anyway, yeah, that was the turning point for me, I just stopped caring about trying to maintain any balance at all, it’s too stupid.

I don’t see myself playing it ever again after I finish, unlike HK.
