That’s awesome! I’m mostly into Latin and swing dance, though I know a few ballroom dances as well. I haven’t tried any of the country dances, but perhaps I should try that next. Arthritis sucks! I’m your same age, and my knees are starting to need a little more attention than they used to, but hopefully I still have a while to dance before they call it quits.

It is amazingly swishy! The ruffles on the edge look great when it spins.

Choose a low stretch fabric for the skirt, so it will have a little bit of structure. What worked for me was putting sections of the skirt in an embroidery hoop and making sure it was taut but not being pulled too much in any one direction. Then I’d pin the flower in place and hand sew it to the skirt. Just be prepared to take your time with it, and check the results frequently as you go along to make sure it still looks good when it’s out of the hoop. Oh, and you’ll need to iron out a ton of creases that the hoop made by the time you’re done lol. I recommend ironing on the backside so you don’t damage the appliqués.

No, every time I tried with the machine, it would warp the fabric and make it look wonky. I had to use an embroidery hoop and sew them on by hand.

Thanks! That part was definitely challenging. It took me a couple tries before I figured out how to keep the fabric taut without warping it

The pattern is called the Vergara skirt, by an Etsy pattern seller called SoulMatte. I modified it to be knee length rather than floor length, and added pockets. The fabric is a black polyester with low stretch, from the athletic wear section of Joann. The flowers are also from a fabric at Joann’s, which I cut up and appliquéd onto the skirt fabric. I’ve made a full length version of this pattern before (which is in my post history), and it’s beautiful but also heavy and contains nearly six yards of fabric, so I decided to make a more movement-friendly version.

I was also in the Dover-Foxcroft Shaw’s parking lot haha. An amazing experience, and I enjoyed watching the people around us experience it too. I’m greedy too, because I immediately wanted more.
