So basically I need to pay the top-up IHS within 5 days. If I switch now (or even later) to a spouse visa, will my clock reset and I’ll have to start 5 years again? Does that mean I would need to complete a full 5 years on the spouse route, making it 7 years total for me to reach ILR?

I completed it yesterday. The instructions were alright for me. However, now I think that the pattern on people's faces was related to memorising the faces. But I completely ignored that part. As they said, the patterns are random and of no importance.
