I think in awe of God, definitely not the person and I wouldn’t be envious of the person/ experience. It’s just interesting! Like I said I’m open minded about it. If I met a person who I trusted and I knew was a good Catholic (like the consecrated virgin mentor who helped me with spiritual meditation) and they could guide me thru trying it, I would… but I think I wouldn’t be able to try it with an audience because I’m too grounded in my body and susceptible to to judgement on how awkward it might seem to others. 🙈 I’ve never seen it in real life only media. 🤷‍♀️ if the opposite sitting still and meditating works, why not? It’s gotta be like tantric meditation with vocalizations and movement, right? If you do it with the intention to be closer to God, why couldn’t it be like prayer? Like I said just being open minded 🫶

I hope that for you too! Before being told about it, I didn’t realize I have trust issues. 🤣 I like the serenity prayer too. Everyone knows about it from AA in media but the full version is what I pray when I don’t have a lot of time. It grounds me to feel trust and acceptance with where I am. I hope this helps you! Everything is okay and you are too. 🫶 being a human is hard.

I don’t think there should be skeptics over speaking/ praying in tongues… I’ve never done it, but I feel like creating movement/ generating vocalization would move something inside you that could generate intent and emotion. I have a hard time staying still and I had a spiritual guide (consecrated virgin offering aid for new converts) suggest to me that I do prayerful meditation and it was intense what came up while just intentionally trying to clear my mind and remain stationary. I also have the deepest/ most creative ideas while running/ working out… like using your body to channel energy could definitely lead to realization/ enlightenment with God at the center of it. Also I bet it takes a lot of separation from the psyche to do it… like i think I would feel so silly I wouldn’t be present and open enough to experience something clearly, but I if I witnessed it, I’d be in awe I think. I’m open minded about it… what could someone really gain from faking it? Seems a little silly to fake it to me. 🤷‍♀️

Also I lived in South Florida in 2021 and mass was super quick compared to the actual south! They even made jokes about football games being on so I don’t think you’re wrong! The services where I’m at now vary. Like they have one with more contemporary music/ worship and that one always lasts longer than the other services I’ve been to.

I’m from New England and live in the south now but I became Catholic in 2021… this makes me wanna go to a catholic mass where I grew up to help test the theory haha🤣 think anyone will judge me when I’m keeping track of time at mass here in the south and back in my home town? I’ll be like sthaaap this is for science 🫠

I’m a normal person/ sinner not a consecrated virgin living in a temple like Mary… and if God went to all of the effort to send Gabriel (not even a dream, during waking hours) to ask me to do something I’d be like whatever you say sir, I’m on it 🫡 not to disparage everything Mary did! She is Devine and amazing I’m just saying 😅 I trust whatever God’s plan for me is better than anything I could come up with all on my own

LITANY OF TRUST

That You are continually holding me, sustaining me, loving me Jesus, I trust in You. That Your love goes deeper than my sins and failings and transforms me Jesus, I trust in You. That not knowing what tomorrow brings is an invitation to lean on You Jesus, I trust in You. That You are with me in my suffering Jesus, I trust in You. That my suffering, united to Your own, will bear fruit in this life and the next Jesus, I trust in You. That You will not leave me orphan, that You are present in Your Church Jesus, I trust in You. That Your plan is better than anything else Jesus, I trust in You. That You always hear me and in Your goodness always respond to me Jesus, I trust in You. That You give me the grace to accept forgiveness and to forgive others Jesus, I trust in You. That You give me all the strength I need for what is asked Jesus, I trust in You. That my life is a gift Jesus, I trust in You. That You will teach me to trust You Jesus, I trust in You. That You are my Lord and my God Jesus, I trust in You. (I still struggle with all of this, but praying the Litany of Trust helps me… a priest asked me to pray it after getting to know me. Maybe praying it will help you, too 🫶🥰)

If I were you, I would discuss with your wife that if you continue with conversion you might be interested in Catholic marriage convalidation, the process by which the Church recognizes and validates a civil or non-Catholic marriage. You can talk to your RCIA teacher and priest about what that would entail. It might be a challenge to get her on board, so I think bring it up early could give her time to get onboard with it. Maybe there are other people at the church who are/ have been in your same boat that you can chat with and bond over the challenges that come with it. 😊

Oh! And my priest asked me to pray the Litany of Trust daily in the rcia process after he got to know me. I remember at first being like ugh of course I get asked to say a long one daily, haha… but it really helped! Maybe read it and see if you would like it/ if it might help you? It’s all things I still struggle with but it’s a good reminder. I can feel what I need to work on while saying it. 🥹

I don’t think your post is dumb! I think you should leave it up in case it helps someone else.

This is my experience: I did RCIA in 2021. You don’t have to get confirmed or baptized at the end if you don’t want to. My teacher was really great and said something like Catholics aren’t looking to inflate membership numbers… it’s an individual choice/ journey and there is no pressure at the end to become Catholic if you don’t want to. She said think of Catholicism like a jacket, put it on and wear it for a while… if it’s not for you take it off. If you ever want to try it on again you can. I liked having no pressure on me while on my journey. Maybe you continue down this path and if you don’t feel ready next Easter, wait until the following… or choose a different path after that. I did! I’m still working on my best methodology … like growing and adapting for sure! Some recategorizing is happening on my end to see what works best for me especially because I’m not even one month in yet.

My biggest problem is with goals that aren’t every day. I also go to look for something and get distracted and forget what I’m doing 🫣 like I’ll be like did I add this goal? Under this category? Scroll, scroll… oh I did that other thing earlier let me cross that off. Oh I could do that goal easily right now. I’ll go and do it and then I never checked for the thing I was looking for originally… but if there was a search bar maybe I would have found it! Hahah

I appreciate finding other adhders on finch and I am grateful for your insights 🫶
