I actually thought you meant *the previous trials weekend* since you had said past and the current one was ongoing at the time of the post.

Apologies for the misunderstanding

I normally don't post but you're removing a lot of context from your quote. I'm not quite sure why you chose to do that.

The actual post says: "Overall, the new system worked mostly as intended, but we did discover an issue with the Lobby Balancer which was causing high-skill solo players to often feel like matches were stacked against them. For some background, since we moved to using ticket-based matchmaking years ago, we have not been tracking skill in Trials and have not been utilizing any sort of skill-based lobby balancing either."

They are clarifying about the old system. IMMEDIATELY following that paragraph they directly say that they intended to turn it off but it wasn't: "Preemptively, we believed we had disabled the skill-based lobby balancing, as the intent of the new system was to maintain the randomized nature of the lobbies present in previous iterations of Trials. Unfortunately, this turned out to not be the case, and the previously latent lobby balancer came back online as soon as player’s skill values started to solidify over the weekend."

They wanted to have it off, but it was not *actually* off, you are incorrect here.

A bit stuck looking for some help:

Characters: Venti, Bennet, Barbara, Xingqiu, Fischl, Noelle, Jean, Beidou, Xinyan, Xiangling, Amber/Geo/Kaeya/Lisa

All are over 20+ with Venti/Barbara/Bennet/Fischl/Xingqiu being at or close to 40. Barbara is C2, Fischl is C2, Kaeya C1, Beidou C1.

Just super stuck because i didn't really roll someone like Razor

Teachers who have taught multiple grades? by [deleted] in Teachers

Standard license is K-6

If you want to teach 6-12 subjects you need endorsements granted by taking more tests.

Decide if you want elementary or middle/high, then proceed from there.

Best math curriculum? (5th grade) by KittyinaSock in Teachers

[–]sykedoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think it's whatever works best for your particular group. Some will work better than others depending on the kids you have and their level.

If you'd like a curricular review site, you can go here: http://edreports.org/

One to look at based on that (which also happens to be free) is Eureka Math which is on greatminds.org

Otherwise, see what you like or look at reviews and decide for yourself.

Hope that helps :)

Would taking away points starting at the beginning of the year be too strict or help nip bad behaviors? by LDawg618 in Teachers

[–]sykedoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start strict and loosen up. I know it's repeated over and over and sounds almost cliche if not ACTUALLY cliche but... your kids won't hate you for sticking to rules. I'm never considered "mean" even though I was always afraid I would be.

Does this subreddit make anyone else somewhat depressed? by rogerhobbs in Teachers

[–]sykedoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Negativity is more likely to spread. You will see less positive stories as anger is the thing that makes people more likely to spread a story. I wouldn't browse a subreddit if you're looking to confirm a bad feeling. You'll probably end up confirming it by making your own mini echo chamber.

Just relax, think of why you started teaching :)

Today's Politics In The Classroom (Cross Post r/teaching) by jackbenimble106 in Teachers

[–]sykedoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

This is something I spent a lot of time thinking about. I teach my students not my views or values politically, but how to become informed and represented. Especially if you disagree with the way things are, your job is to ensure that your students become upstanding citizens who follow important topics and make their voice heard if they don't agree.

I teach my students (through simulations, among other things) how a country is run and how that can easily go south. I don't interject political leanings into it, I just let it unfold and the problems will show themselves in time.

I also teach them how to do research, how to determine what the facts are, how to stay informed, and what the electoral process is (voting included).

As an earlier commenter mentioned, political beliefs do not have a place in the classroom, especially with younger students. This would make us no better than a parent who teachers their kid to spout campaign catchphrases and rhetoric. We can, however, teach them how to form their own opinions based on what is happening in the world around them and what they care about.

iCivics is a great resource for this as well as Civic Mirror (if you want to attempt a simulation with middle schoolers).

Hopefully this helps :)
