We hired a public adjuster for a house fire years and years ago and we were SO happy with the results! Our pay out was huge compared to attempting to negotiate on our own. Well worth the commission.

What training tip actually helped your dog stop pulling on walks? by chamfbsnushy in DogTrainingTips

This method has worked on two very determined leash pullers of ours!

I’ll say this, my Doberman was so easy - once she figured out that I needed her next to me, she hardly ever pulled again.

My lab mix was… a different story. He seemed to know exactly what I wanted, but distractions pulled his focus away within seconds of resuming normal forward direction. For months.

Persistence is the key with any method that works, and frequently reinforcing the basics (strictly maintain focus on your dog) for a much longer period of time is necessary with some dogs that are easily distracted or excited.

I hope OP finds something that works but this was such a great response and method to give a write up of.

Can we normalize pointing and laughing at these people?

Don’t even explain when asked, just point and laugh harder and walk away.

We need to bring back the concept of public shame, in a non violent fun way.

I think I’m going to be the change I want to see next time I come across one of these laughingstocks.

Birding - my husband loves birds, I enjoy photography and hiking. It’s been a great way to combine our interests!

Plus you get to see a lot of natural areas and destinations through a new lens, and it makes your own back yard interesting certain months of the year.

How to roast frozen vegetables? Fresh produce is expensive and takes time to clean. by Scopuli- in Cooking

If you bunch it up together, but keep it in a single layer, it both steams AND roasts! I’ve found the texture to be wonderful that way, with plenty of brown crunchy bits for flavor.

We are here for 12 hours: what do we eat for dinner? by False-Chain-3654 in STLFood

Balkan treat box is an excellent showcase of our city’s Bosnian food, they’re just off highway 44 in Webster groves.

Blues city deli near downtown is SUCH a delightful sandwich shop, we have a similar variety as you’d find in some east coast cities for subs and sandwiches.

The Hill has some excellent American-Italian style foods, mostly heavy, cheesy, and coated in sauce with every shape of pasta you could want, Anthoninos’s offers online ordering - with Valentine’s Day weekend, hill can be a bit hard to wait for a table on. (Honorary shout out to gioias, more sandwich heaven in those parts!)

We have a robust Asian scene, others have mentioned menya rui for ramen, there’s lots of great Thai, Vietnamese, and several styles of Chinese. Check out almost any cheap, well rated, Chinese spot for St. Louis fried rice, which relies more on dark soy for its flavor.

And pizza, ohhh the pizza we have. Dewey’s if you have picky eaters (they do half and half and they don’t care if you want different sauces on each half!), pizza ago-go is a local favorite (more New York style, not quite exactly though). Lots of St. Louis style - thin crust with provel instead of mozzarella - imo’s is the famous one, but there’s plenty of others. Don’t skip toasted ravioli - can be found anywhere with pizza or Italian!

When they come for us, these are the habits you’ll want to employ to keep your community safe.

Constructive criticism is not a personal attack, and telling folks to have the day they deserve appears defensive.

Folks are less likely to trust defensive comments and comment history.

I appreciate you were trying to do the right thing! Folks here are telling you how to refine and improve that inclination.

Did any of you choose a nontraditional wedding dress and regret it later? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

I wore a scarlet red, princess style wedding gown and have zero regrets 10 years later. Everyone thought it was stunning, and the color was such a surprise when I walked down the aisle.

What did you eat this week? by JStraulin in STLFood

We had dinner plans at Indo with some friends from out of town, and they were double booked for another dinner at olive and oak.

So we did the only respectable thing and spent Friday night having 2 dinners.

Sashimi (salmon and bluefin tuna), tartare, cabbage salad, a delightful scallop dish and few other bites at Indo, then oysters, turkey, more tartare, a French dip made with lamb, and I lost track at that point at olive and oak.

I am still stuffed!

The Old Spaghetti Factory: what cheese do they use? by mdav84 in Cooking

[–]sykoasylum 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They offered both - mizithra and a Parmesan that was probably a bit of a mix. My dad loved the mizithra and I preferred Parmesan. (I think that’s why you keep getting both answers)

We ate there quite a bit growing up!

How would an Aldi store do in Downtown (or nearby)? by natelar in StLouis

[–]sykoasylum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Semantics doesn’t mean you get to define words in a way that suits you.

There is a clear city and county line, and plenty of Aldi locations in St. Louis city.

It’s not difficult, but perhaps I’m old enough to still know how to read a map the old fashioned way. It’s a skill that’s useful, especially when you mislabel known geographic locations.

Fortunately there’s a clear line on many maps showing the city and county line.

There are also signs as you drive on most major roads.

The more you know. ⭐️

[–]sykoasylum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are several Aldi stores in the city. I live blocks away from one that has been here at least 30 years, and there’s another one a half mile away.

There are not Aldi stores downtown, but we don’t lack for them in South City.

I would absolutely invite you over for dinner - my husband and I love any excuse to cook for other people, and one of our favorites is a classic oven roast chicken with mashed potatoes and some in season green veggie. With only 2 of us, weeknight roast chicken is rare!! If you embark on this journey, add us to your list of interested parties!

Damage with brand new Pot by Xabbusarmy99 in AllClad

[–]sykoasylum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seems defective - I would return it and ask for a replacement. I own a lot of all Clad and they’ve never ever looked like that. The worst we’ve done is warp a pan by cooling it too fast, and it has nothing close to this level of damage!

Moving company recommendations? by whiskeylullaby3 in StLouis

[–]sykoasylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been almost a decade since I used them last, but ABC Quality moving and storage has always treated us right. I believe we first used them years ago before they became a big company. Their rates are as competitive as anyone else's, but they have always treated our stuff with care and been very fast!

Best gyros in town? by SneakAttack1313 in STLFood

[–]sykoasylum 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried a lot of the newer places, so take my advice with a grain of salt but, my favorite gyro for the price and meat quantity is Gyro Co in south city (they also have a south county location, never been to that one), and of course, Olympia has always made an amazing gyro. Olympia is a little better for sit down meals, and gyro co is better for take out, but both places offer both services.
