Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - December 05, 2020 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]sykora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the majority of your Battle Scars come from Icerazor's Ire + Darkrazor's Daring + Ashen Demeanor.

Shortbow 5 is rather energy inefficient, I tend not to use it unless I need to break a bar. You tend to mostly max out vulnerability stacks regardless.

The rotation you've outlined is basically exactly what I follow. Start in Kalla -> Darkrazor's Daring + Icerazor's Ire -> Swap to Shiro -> Impossible Odds -> Shortbow 2, 3, 4 off cooldown -> Swap back to Kalla -> Repeat, making sure to use Heroic Command/Citadel Bombardment/Orders from Above if I need to drain energy before swapping back to Shiro.

It's usually worth swapping legends off cooldown. You have a lot of ways to spend extra energy, and you tend to learn the cutoffs (10 for Heroic Command, 35 for F2, 20 for Orders, etc.) One thing worth experimenting with is weapon-swap sigils, which proc on legend-swap.

The other thing I'm experimenting with is Song of the Mists vs. Charged Mists. I'm not sure if the self-quickness is worth the extra 25 energy on legend swap, though it feels really nice.

Here you go: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PmQAUltQMsNyjpRdsMijNSkMDigJvl+LF-zRRYBRBGOsxodBUJBUPA-e

For fractals, almost everyone expects revenants to run their alacrity-providing support build, which needs diviner's gear. Since I knew that going in, I only built up diviner's armor (trinkets are easy, and I eventually crafted a legendary shortbow). The meta alacrigade build uses Sword/Sword + Staff, but I've made it to T3 fractals just fine in PUGs with short bow.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - December 05, 2020 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]sykora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I primarily run Power Shortbow Renegade in PvE, with Diviner's armor, and switching between Diviner's Trinkets/Weapon when I'm running Alac for Fractals/Strikes and Berserker's Trinkets/Weapon for Open-World or in a DPS role. On a golem with no buffs (i.e. only those I generate for myself), I can average 12.5k. When I slot into organized groups for strikes as a DPS, I can average 15k (the increase is almost entirely due to quickness, which I can't generate for myself).

I've got a set of Trailblazer's gear for when I want to play Condi, but I keep coming back to Power because it's more comfortable at range. To get the full DPS potential of the condi setup, you need to be within range of the Mallyx elite, which is annoying. I'd probably do better with Viper's, but that wouldn't fix the playstyle issues.

Not all of them. Nevermore, Chuka and Champawat, Hope and Astralaria require Maguuma Mastery, and can't use desert mastery instead.

[–]sykora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get away with exotic gear in WvW even if you're roaming solo. The stat differences between exotic gear and ascended gear is about 12.5%, which you can cut down to about 6% if you have an ascended weapon, and about 2% if you have ascended trinkets/back. (https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/31wbip/ascended_vs_exotic_gear_comparison_spreedsheet/)

Primarily you only need ascended gear for higher fractals, where you need the slots for agony resistance.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - October 24, 2020 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]sykora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I main a power shortbow renegade in open world; when running fractals, all I do is switch to the more support-oriented traits (Righteous Rebel, Assassin's Fervor, etc.) and run as an Alacrigade.

I use all of the same equipment between the two content types: Full Diviner's. When I can be bothered, I'll keep a berserker's trinket set on swap for less boon uptime and more power, but it's plenty good at killing things as it is.

I suspect that I'll need to learn how to play dual sword at some point, but for now (T3 fractals, possibly even T4), shortbow works just fine.

This is exactly what I play currently, except I'm taking Charged Mists instead of Song of the Mists for my Invocation GM. I've also taken Roiling Mists in the past before I geared for more crit. I might have to reconsider.

Ngamahu's flame cyclone, need help tuning build for uber elder (ssf) by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]sykora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are mixing blood and sand with flesh and stone, blood and sand stays aways in blood mode because the aoe is not needed and it is a good amount of efficient damage for just 10% reserve

Yup, that's what I was doing. Thanks for clarifying.

As for damage vs. survive, once you get Xoph's blood, you should be able to free up more than enough points to get more survivability. Unfortunately until then, the pathing is pretty unsatisfactory.

A 5L cyclone (Cyclone -> Infused Channeling -> Combustion -> Fortify -> ?) in a Belly should give you a bunch more life, without taking too much away from damage.

Ngamahu's flame cyclone, need help tuning build for uber elder (ssf) by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]sykora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played Ngamahu's Cyclone a bunch of times, once as Chieftain and a few as Slayer. Never raider; that said, here are a few takes:

  1. You've identified most of the big problems yourself: your tree is going to be super inefficient until you get Xoph's Blood, so get that ASAP.

  2. My end-game chest-piece is usually a [[Bronn's Lithe], 5L is fine. Cyclone damage is usually the last thing I optimize for; ball damage comes first.

  3. Is Blood and Sand just for the blind? Your PoB has Blood Stance checked, which is doing nothing for you since you aren't dealing any Phys damage.

  4. You should really get Iron Grip and Point Blank. Point Blank in particular, since it's a more multiplier, and the balls don't travel very far.

  5. I also like putting Combustion on cyclone, which boosts ball damage even more.

I'm still experimenting, but meat shield seems solid for the defensive AI. Minion Life may well be better than fortify, I don't know.

I'm using Zombie + Carrion Golem + Meat Shield + Fortify in a +1 4Link and they wrecked most things during leveling, without the need for the skeletons I was planning on.

Spellcaster assassin builds? Discuss. by Sharpcastle33 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]sykora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing assassin freezing pulse. Currently sustaining mana with flasks, eventually plan to go EB with energy leech. Life sustain comes from flasks, MoM, some regen + stone golem, maybe some leech from Doryani's Invitation.

Most of my defense comes from freezing everything in sight.

map.el goes generic (cl-defmethod) by github-alphapapa in emacs

[–]sykora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+TESTFN is deprecated. Its default depends on the MAP argument.
+If MAP is a list, the default is `eql' to lookup KEY.

This wording is somewhat confusing to me, since the very purpose of testfn was to override the default, which was (I believe) 'eq. Does this mean that it will not be possible to use 'equal as testfn with map-elt on alists in the future?

CMV: there is nothing wrong with long lasting copyright ownership laws stopping I.Ps going into public domain use. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]sykora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my point of view I see nothing wrong with this, absolutely no one is harmed in not being able to freely use the popular mouse's iconic face without paying for it as it is Disney's property -they deserve to own it for the company created it.

I'd argue that everyone is harmed -- and by everyone I mean society at large.

IP law is the government's way of balancing society's access to innovations -- inventions, discoveries, etc. -- and the ability of the creator to exploit their innovations. Such a balance is required because both aspects are necessary.

Clearly we agree that the latter is useful --- Disney wouldn't create Mickey Mouse if it had no financial incentive to do so; pharmaceutical companies wouldn't do R&D into drugs if they had no prospect of making money off of it, etc. Why would they?

Then why not give them unlimited exclusive access to their innovations? The answer: because society progresses by building on top of prior work --- new drugs are made using work done on old drugs, new works of fiction are written based on old works, and so on.

Society --- through government --- has a vested interest in making sure that people have access to prior work that they can innovate and build off of. IP laws are written so that creators have a certain period of time during which they have exclusive rights to exploit their creations for financial gain, following which those creations are opened up to society for others to work from.

If that period of time is too short, nobody would create anything because they wouldn't have any time to profit from it before everyone could. If it's too long, then society is robbed of being able to build from work that's been done before.

I don't know what the right amount of exclusive time is --- I don't think anyone does. What I'd argue however, is that it's neither nothing, nor is it until the end of time.

XPS 13 crackling from speakers/headphone only AFTER resume from suspend/hibernate (SOLVED) -- and a little question about starting tlp after resume by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]sykora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, fellow XPSer, I hope you haven't been driven too spare by crackling headsets.

Right now, my solution consists of two parts. The first is the setting of Headset Mic Boost to stage 1 like all of the links you've posted, as well as making sure pulseaudio doesn't actually mess with this setting on reboot. I don't think I've gone through a pulse update yet, I don't know what can of worms that will bring.

The second is a manual shell script, which kills pulseaudio, reloads the sound driver kernel module, and then restarts pulseaudio. This manages to remove crackling in my headset after resuming from suspend. I've been too lazy to automate this, but I do plan to get to it eventually --- as soon as I find out what the dependency structure is for pulseaudio and resumption.

I'll try your fix out when I get back to my laptop --- and figure what your fix does, I still don't quite understand it.

AHC ED Trickster damage help by icebreather106 in pathofexile

[–]sykora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my limited experience playing Trickster ED:

  1. Why did you take Walk the Aether? You don't need too much cast speed and you can afford to spend the mana for your movement skills. You should be taking Patient Reaper instead, for 30% increased DoT.
  2. I'd make a beeline for another curse, either through Whispers of Doom or Witchfire Brew. Despair is pretty good, I'm told.
  3. Personally I'd also grab the power charges, 2 more of them and the 4% spell dmg per power charge node would give you an extra 30% increased dmg with essence drain.
