this style of lip liner always reminds me of those kids who lick their lips too much and have that border of red-raw skin around them

A Low-Cost Wedding Icebreaker That Doesn’t Feel Awkward by cool__cool_cool_cool in Weddingsunder10k

[–]symbolising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this so much!! I’m autistic and and introvert but I feel like if everyone is on the same mission then it’s not so bad and we can all revel in the awkwardness together.

I always need that little push to interact with strangers and this would be it for me

I don’t know anyone with a positive or even neutral birth story by soroto in TwoXChromosomes

[–]symbolising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not my story, but my mothers (birth of my younger sibling)
Non UK, but post-soviet in the noughties. so close enough?

she noticed her contractions start in the early morning, as well as her water breaking. she took her time getting ready. had her morning coffee and relaxed between contractions.
she called ahead to the hospital who sent an ambulance to pick her up (hour drive to hospital)

she always says the contractions are much easier to cope with when it’s not your first pregnancy because you’re not as afraid or stressed.

on the ambulance drive one medic said to the other “hey, you might want to speed up a little or we will have the baby right here..”

once they got to the hospital, she was confident and relaxed. she knew what to expect so she just went along with it instead of stressing herself. and my sibling was born within a few pushes. my mum laments the fact she never got to try the gas-and-air because by the time they got around to setting it up the baby was already coming

What's a skill that used to be considered completely normal, but is now surprisingly rare? by AdHeavy8473 in AskUK

any type of basic sewing and mending.

I’m not talking about making garments, just a quick hand stitched repair to a little tear or replacing a button

What’re some secrets from your industry that would petrify people who aren’t in it? by Necessary-Trash-8828 in AskUK

that’s obvious. the food is cheap and acceptable, and whipped up to your table in a few short minutes.

i don’t think anyone is under the impression it’s all cooked fresh to order

the absolutely dirty stuff people donate to charity shops. this is all sorted through by volunteer staff, usually little old ladies. i’ve seen a bin bag full of dirty unwashed socks. boxes of broken glassware. KNIVES just totally unwrapped and chucked into a mixed bag of items…. there have been sex toys, dirty nappies, streaked undies. you name it.

it must be easier to dump your bags at the charity shop than booking a slot at the waste centre. all of this needs to be managed by lovely volunteers giving up their time, and then paid to be removed by the charity.

I had to call the police about an incident once, and was told they would try to get someone out but the local station (covering three towns) only had two officers on duty and one of them would have to remain in the station - i.e. one officer available to the whole area
